Cyanogen 12.1 coming to the ZUK Z1 23rd September

zuk z1 cyanogen

News has reached us today that the official stable release of Cyanogen 12.1 will be released for the ZUK Z1 on the 23rd September.

While the ZUK Z1 launched in China on the 11th August, the model which is on sale at this time is the Chinese mainland variant with ZUK’s own ZUI ROM based on Android 5.0. While it is possible to easily install Google services on ZUI, the system is a little basic and the phone really comes to life once a nice fresh Cyanogen 12.1 build is installed on it.

On the 23rd of this month Cyanogen 12.1 will be released to download. As both the ‘international’ and Chinese versions of the phone are identical in terms of hardware CM will flash to either without an issue.

Gizchina News of the week

Those of you who have already bought or are planning to buy the Chinese version of the ZUK Z1 will need to use the Qualcomm Product Support Tool to install the system. Those of you opting for the non Chinese specific ZUK Z1 should get CM 12.1 out of the box.

The ZUK Z1 is the first phone from Lenovo backed ZUK and features a 5.5-inch FHD display, Snapdragon 801 chipset, 3GB RAM 64GB internal memory, 13 mega-pixel main camera, 4100mAh battery and is only one of a select few of phones to get official Cyanogen support.

Shop.gizchina.com will be an official reseller of ZUK and our store will have the ZUK Z1 available for pre-sale later this month.

No full european LTE support is such a bummer! I went for the huawei honor 7 with promo for just 299€!

Damn, I almost ordered that one yesterday but decided to wait for the Nexus 5 2015. I hope it doesn’t disappoint and otherwise I can always still get the Honor 7 (even though it’ll be a bit more expensive). Support at Vmall.eu seems nice as their chat responded within 1 minute confirming it supports all European 4G bands.

This ZUK looks nice and I love CM but 5.5″ is too big for me.

Will COS fully support the U-touch button? That seems one USP’s of this nice phone to me.
