Rumours say Meizu ME5 flagship could cost $785

Meizu switched up their game with new low pricing and a larger product range. News today states that the Zhuhai phone maker is about to make a huge gamble on their next device.

The past 5 launches from Meizu have all produced affordable phones, but a report today says that the next Meizu branded flagship might see a return to higher pricing. According to this report, the Meizu ME5 (the new name for the flagship Meizu MX5 Pro model) will go on sale in September for as much as 4999 Yuan ($785).

Details go on to point at a phone with 4GB RAM, 20 mega-pixel Sony IMX204 main camera, 5.5-inch display, Samusng Exynos 7420 processor and 3600mAh battery. The body will be metal and the screen a 2.5D glass panel

In comparison the Meizu MX5 features 3GB RAM, Helio X10 chipset, 20.7 mega-pixel camera and costs only 1799 Yuan in China.

Earlier this week a new Meizu logo was revealed along with a brand goal for Meizu to become more like Apple and focus on the ā€˜emotionā€™ of a product rather than just hardware and price alone. This new pricing seems to indicate that move, but also goes against everything the company has worked on for the past 12 months,

Since the release of the MX4, Meizu have been seen as an attainable phone brand. One that anyone can afford, but with new higher pricing they stand to lose their new fan base.

Would you pay 4999 Yuan for the next Meizu? Do you think that these rumours are even true? Let us know in the comments below.

They’re good brand and provide good user support, but it looks like they want to be the new Apple. That I think will not work, neither in China, nor in the rest of the world.
Since it seems a bit insane and too much of a gamble, I say it’s just a rumour.

I doubt this is real, no one would pay such price for a Meizu phone, not even Xiaomi can’t pull that bullshit.

Second sentence: “… about about to make a huge gamble …”
Also, it’s “lose” and not “loose”, a common mistake made often on this site. I’m not a grammar whore and am not quick to make a post about this but this website really needs someone to check the articles before they get published.

I would rather by a Apple product (wont happen) than buy an overpriced Meizu thing.
