Meizu switched up their game with new low pricing and a larger product range. News today states that the Zhuhai phone maker is about to make a huge gamble on their next device.
The past 5 launches from Meizu have all produced affordable phones, but a report today says that the next Meizu branded flagship might see a return to higher pricing. According to this report, the Meizu ME5 (the new name for the flagship Meizu MX5 Pro model) will go on sale in September for as much as 4999 Yuan ($785).
Details go on to point at a phone with 4GB RAM, 20 mega-pixel Sony IMX204 main camera, 5.5-inch display, Samusng Exynos 7420 processor and 3600mAh battery. The body will be metal and the screen a 2.5D glass panel

In comparison the Meizu MX5 features 3GB RAM, Helio X10 chipset, 20.7 mega-pixel camera and costs only 1799 Yuan in China.
Earlier this week a new Meizu logo was revealed along with a brand goal for Meizu to become more like Apple and focus on the ‘emotion’ of a product rather than just hardware and price alone. This new pricing seems to indicate that move, but also goes against everything the company has worked on for the past 12 months,
Since the release of the MX4, Meizu have been seen as an attainable phone brand. One that anyone can afford, but with new higher pricing they stand to lose their new fan base.
