In another shock announcement the team behind bringing us a new JiaYu phone have stated that they want to be the first Chinese phone maker to offer Android M, but there is a caveat.
I’m happy to let you all know that your comments on the new JiaYu phone news didn’t go unread. The team working on the new phone have been in touch again stating that they have read your comments and it has had them thinking.
The point which jolted the team was the mention that some readers not wanting a Medaitek MT6753 octacore processor. The reason that it concerned them is the fact that it is the precise SoC the company were planning to use. Before you switch off completely though there are reason.
Apparently a number of processors had been considered. Options were the newer Helio X10, the MT6753 and the previous generation MT6595. The Helio X10 has been discounted as it would have pushed the price above their planned RRP for between $150 – $160 (international price) and would push the release time even closer to Christmas.
The MT6595 was in the running as it is still a potent chipset and pricing of the SoC has dropped considraly, however the 32bit nature of the SoC and lack of source availability has put them off.
The MT6753 is being considered as it will allow the new phone to have a low-price, what’s more the team behind the phone say that they will be able to release source code for this chip and can be one of the first to release Android M on their device.
So what do you think? Is having open source and an early Android M update worth running an MT6753? Let us know in the comments below.
I wouldn’t mind paying a price marginally above the price range of $150 – $160 if Jiayu would deliver the Helio X10 soc, including LTE B20. And furthermore a good supportteam delivering OTA updates periodically.
I think the problem is that the pins on the X10 aren’t compatible with the final PCB they have. So it wouldn’t be a slight increase and it would but their launch date way to close to Christmas. The MT6752 might be better, but I don’t know if Mediatek have offered the source so them…. A tricky situation
Can you tell us anything about the screen size Andi? Will it be 5.5″ again or smaller?
The 5.2″ seem to be the new “standard-size” (like the new Nexus 5). JiaYu have already a 5.5″, it would be foolish to maintain the same target-size! 🙂
If JiaYu don’t adopt the Helio X10 they will be beaten by Xiaomi! 😉
🙁 If this will prove to be true… i am out. I really hoped for a compact phone from Jiayu from the first rumors of S4. But another 5.5” with MT6753…
I am waiting and waiting and waiting for a decent budget size 4.7-5.0″, and when i say compact i don’t mean a 5.0″ of 145mm height…. but in vain….
I think i will have to break the bank and go for Xiaomi Mi4c.
You said that our comments on the new JiaYu phone news didn’t go unread. Bull…
Jiayu, did you read the comments on the S4 renders stoty?!?!
I guess not…
Exactly my words. If Jiayu really bankrups, this is the reason why. Releasing the same product in the same price range as all other companies. This is total failure.
You can only be successful if you find holes in the market and fill them. You don’t have to search for the hole, it is absolutely clear: a well built powerful phone with compact size.
lol, it’s a jiayu s3 with marginal/questionable improvements and a shittier chip.
lol lol lol.
Yep, I can’t understand why Jiayu would stick with a 6752 or go with 6753; it’s essentially the S3 all over again! The only differentiation would appear to be Android M! Presumably, they could upgrade existing S3’s to support this; so there’s something horribly wrong with this plan.
With MT6753 it will be a clone, with X10 will be an upgrade. 🙂
MT6753 is a lot more shittier than MT6752, so it’s actually a downgrade. I want to see them do it just for the lulz.
Ok thx, I’m out then. The least they could do is change the screen size to attract another group of people and differentiate themselves from the hundreds of MT6753 devices out there. What they are doing now is just releasing a downgraded S3. Unless the materials they use and the features are mind blowing, I really don’t think anyone is waiting for this (as you can see in the comments here). Missed opportunity imho.
Well OK but don’t we have enough 5.5 inch phones with MT6752 already ? I mean I know it’s a Jiayu but still …
I already bought a Xiomi Note 2 because of the Helio X10, the price and the fact that I hope Xiaomi will provide updates and the source code.
mediatek dont want to offer even the source for android 5.1.1 for 6752 and most of the companies lol
This, why is this so hard? Even if they have to scrap the current design, that would be better than sending the phone to die.
