Doogee Y200 will offer a fingerprint scanner on an affordable budget

The Doogee Y200 is, like the Y series, designed for students (“Y” for “young”), but the company is ready to bring a more secure and easy way to unlock the device by way of the tech trend that’s been taking off since Apple’s announcement about Touch ID in the iPhone 5s two years ago: that is, the fingerprint scanner. Now, Doogee looks to join other smartphone makers by bringing a fingerprint scanner to the Doogee Y200.

Android smartphones have been taking off with this feature ever since 2013, particularly Samsung’s Galaxy S5, Note 4, and now Galaxy S6, S6 edge and S6 edge+, as well as the Korean manufacturer’s Galaxy Note5. Google is preparing the launch of its LG Nexus 5X and Huawei Nexus 6P on September 29th, both of which are rumored to have fingerprint scanners in honor of Android 6.0 Marshmallow’s native fingerprint support – which means that smartphones with fingerprint scanners should become a staple once Android Marshmallow lands. Sony’s done something different with its native fingerprint scanner, placing it on the side instead of using a home button, but most manufacturers have gone with a home button-embedded scanner. Doogee’s Y200 will bring the fingerprint scanner to the home button, which seems to make it easier to use (and will also influence the customer base to adopt it).

The Doogee Y200 (the upcoming fingerprint scanner edition, that is), will still feature the 5.5-inch, IPS LCD HD display with 1280 x 720p screen resolution, a MediaTek MT6735 processor, 2GB of LPDDR4 RAM (the latest RAM, not DDR3), 16GB of storage, a 5MP front camera, 8MP back camera with a Sony sensor, with Android 5.1 Lollipop running out of the box. The Doogee Y200 will also feature metal frame, according to Doogee, and will launch sometime in October (next month), though the battery size and exact launch date haven’t been provided.

Doogee’s main selling point here is that, whereas most devices on the market with fingerprint scanners are expensive high-ends, Doogee’s Y200 looks to be more affordable than any yet. We haven’t been given a price, but we’ll let you know when we do. Students, prepare to have fingerprint protection and privacy in a device that you’ll take into every classroom.
