LeTV Le Max 2 specs rumoured with 6GB RAM, Sony IMX300

You are going to need to grab a pinch of salt and take a seat for this news! Purported specs of the LeTV LeMax 2 are in and they are insane!

Rewind to the start of the year and we were all pretty excited to see the Asus Zenfone 2 release with Intel chipset and 4GB RAM, making it sound closer to a low-end PC rather than a smartphone. The phone world moves quickly though and 4GB RAM is now quite normal in high-end phones, so what’s next?

Apparently 6GB RAM is what we can all look forward too, and it will be again the Chinese who bring about the ‘ram-volution’. Purported specifications of the next generation LeTV Le Max 2 state that the phone will be the first to boast 4 x 1.5GB Samsung RAM modules for a total of 6GB RAM!

The RAM is just a taste of things to come and other specification highlights of the Le Max 2 include a Snapdragon 820 processor, 5.7-inch 2K display, and a release date of the end of the year.

Camera details have also been leaked and include a new Sony IMX300 23 mega-pixel main camera, boasting 0.1 second autofocus speed, 4K video recording at 24fps and F2.0 aperture.

Looking at the hardware I’m happy to see that the next Le Max phone will be a more compact 5.7-inch as the current version is just too large to use comfortably. The rear camera also excites me, but 6GB RAM? Really?

well if the le max goes down to 5,7″ then i hope that the normal letv will go more into a 5-5,3″ direction

Well 5.7 is too much for me. 5.2 is really the Limit and if normal one goes down to 5.2 that would be great.
Regarding the 6GB RAM I think its useless. Rather have 3-4 GB and more ROM Size. Or a bigger Battery from Ampirus would be a great enhancement.

To be honest, real China phones are crap compared to phones aimed at the European market (including Chinese phones of course). But I don’t think it is about the Chinese phone market, it must be how business works in China.
I’ve owned a Jiayu 3GS (?) and a Xiaomi M2S and since then a Moto G and two Xperia Z3c …. and I do not see myself moving back to China phones until Chinese manufacters understand we don’t need 6GB of ram but just a great USER EXPERIENCE.

  Software is never important for an OEM (or rather is not and should not be) and the day untill western companies will put that in their thick skulls I’ll never buy again from them… We already have one of the best software companies developing for arm phones (google), just use that (stock android or aosp) and release the sources, stop with that “software” nonsense that actually takes away from the phones.
  Secondly Ram. In Linux and Android the more you have, the faster your system is. It has nothing to do with optimization, it’s all down to how the OS works which is the exact opposite than Windows where more Ram is useless Ram. “Here” the more ram you have the fastest your phone, because eventually everything gets cached. So an 6GB LeTV running stock Google is millions of times better than the 4gb Samsung that runs TouchWiz. Now go back to your low quality phones…
  The only “western” company that I respect is Apple because their rom is very lean and lately they seem to have understood the absolute importance of hardware (androids tend to use Snapdragons which are about 1-2 years away from the latest developments on ArM socs)

This would be great for me if they hadn’t shrunk the screen down so much, 6″ is the perfect phone size. Regarding the RAM size, I suppose they’ve decided that more is better and as anyone who owns an android phone can testify to the fact that it can hog a lot of memory if not fully optimized properly, this is especially true with lollipop.

  for you, maybe. for me, i want something small and portable so anything larger than 5″ is probably too bit for my purposes. besides, i already have a 10″ tablet, and an 8″ tablet, so if i want more screen real estate i’ll just use one of those instead. 6″ phones are handy if you don’t have a larger tablet, but when you do portability is more important.

      actually, no, there isn’t – there’s the sony z3c/z5c and that’s pretty much it for small, portable flagship-spec devices. and even that has a 720p screen.
      5.2-5.5″, sure, that’s where they’re focusing most of their energies in flagship terms. for me, though, that’s too big to be portable, but not big enough to be useful. for you, still too small. but if that’s what’s selling, you can hardly blame them…

        Sorry I thought you meant Chinese phones. If you are sticking with branded phones then you still have lots of choice in your ‘preferred’ size range, eg Samsung galaxy 5/6, HTC M8/9, Sony handsets like you mentioned and LG. If you want Chinese then just about everything thats been released in the last 6 months is around 5-5.5″. In the larger sizes that I prefer there is almost nothing released this year.

      ah… no. i’ll pass, thanks. i just want good specifications, an sd card slot, a decent camera, great battery life, and a phone that’s going to fit in my pocket comfortably.
      if it wasn’t for the spontaneous screen shattering on my z3c, and sony’s refusal to do anything about it under warranty, i’d likely stick with that. as it stands, i’m likely to go elsewhere but finding something suitable is probably going to be tricky. i like the look of the nubia z9 mini, though, and the wileyfox storm looks pretty awesome, too.

Bad camera.. if the realy want a flagship, they need to decrese the megapixel count and increase sensor size. Look at the new nexus P.
IMX144 or IMX213 sony sensors with 1.85um and 1.6um pixel size would have been good for a camera revolution. A 1/1.7in sensor is what should be in flagships now.
Increasing megapixel is useless. 4GB ram is more than enough.
Implementing a bigger camera sensor is more imp. and the software.

More RAM is always better especially with a resource hog like Android, but anything over 4GB is just a waste at this point.

  Wrong. You can have 16GB and it would still not be a waste. Most people come from Windows where more ram = wasted ram. Linux and Android work the opposite way around. As time passes the more apps get cached into memory. So if you have about 10 Gigs worth of data that you access every day (OS + apps + personal data) then 10 gigs is the minimum that your ram *should* be . Anything less and you’re Ram bottlenecked, so most/all Linux based device are Ram bottlenecked, so the more RAM you have the better at (most of) all times.
  For example my Tablet has 3 gigs and honestly feels slow because it runs out of memory (say I browse image heavy websites) and then it starts shutting down background processes … what I wouldn’t give to have 6gigs of ram or even 12 and 16 gigs. That spec alone would make my experience incomparably faster even if everything else stayed the same.
  My moto is stop upgrading the SoC start “buying” more ram. It’s the single characteristic that matters the *most* (by far) on androids. Never buy low ram phones or tablets they’re truly low-end even if everything else is high end (reminds me of redmi note), etc… Give them a message so finally those 2GB and 3GB devices go extinct…

      comparing two different things, though. android’s memory management works the same way as linux’s memory management – namely, it’s going to use as much as it available to it because empty ram is wasted ram. if you have more ram under linux or android, it’ll hold things in memory for faster access, and only swap them out as necessary. in ios, it kills or unloads apps, meaning it isn’t as efficient.
      the upshot, though, is that both handle the same thing in different ways, so one is not necessarily better than the other. don’t forget, apple’s multitasking was only hacked in at a later point, but it’s always been there in android precisely because of the memory management android uses. ultimately, the lack of memory in apple is because apple don’t want to add the cost to the handset so that they make more money while maintaining what *they* consider acceptable multitasking performance. in android, you have the choice of buying a phone with more ram if you want it. horses for courses, and all that.

        It’s pointless arguing this because it will just turn into (and already has) the Great Andorid vs Apple fan war. I don’t like Apple but I respect what they have achieved with iOS, it is a remarkable piece of software.

        imo, the issue isn’t the software or the hardware – it’s with the amount of control the user is given over it. if you like to tinker, android’s probably for you. if you just want an appliance, probably apple.
        but picking on memory management as an example of why one’s better than the other isn’t a good example as they work in different ways, and most of the memory management is usually the proviso of the application developer anyway rather than the underlying o/s.

But there is no denying the fact that iOS is better at memory management than Android. You can argue till your blue in the face it won’t change that fact. Android is closing the gap with each new version but it’s not there yet. I am not even close to an Apple fan either, every device I use is Android. I can just respect what Apple does.

        It’s merely different. Ultimately, they’re both garbage collection mechanisms. Garbage collection is handled by the developer of the app, not the underlying operating system. Ios is just a flavour of bsd which is pretty much the same kernel as the Linux kernel used in android. They all use the same virtual memory system.
        What you’re comparing is code written in objective c vs java, both of which do in – app memory management slightly differently. I used to be a multi-platform mobile app developer, so i can tell you from personal experience that one is not better than the other 🙂
        The ironic thing is that an iPhone would work better with more ram, too. But apple choose to shave the cost off because they’ve decided for their users exactly what level of performance is acceptable. That’s all.

I think even 4GB is overkill for today’s apps, let alone 6GB of ram. They should invest into R&D for other smartphone components like batteries, camera sensors, and such.
