Over in Shenzhen earlier today, ZTE confirmed the global availability of the ZTE Axon Mini while also showing off the rest of the ZTE Axon range.
The star of today’s ZTE conference was the ZTE Axon Mini. While the phone is hardly new, details of it’s global availability and pricing were only made available to the public during the show.
The ZTE Axon Mini comes with a Snapdragon 616 octa-core chipset with Adreno 405 GPU, a 2800mAh battery, 3GB RAM, 32GB memory, and support for 128GB SD cards. Like many of this year’s phones, the Axon Mini sports a 13 mega-pixel camera on the rear with phase detection auto focus (PDAF) resulting in a focus speed of just 0.1 seconds (claimed). An 8 mega-pixel 5P lens front camera take care of selfies, while dual micro phones, and AKM4961 audio chipset brings HI-Fi audio to the device.
Being a ‘mini’ phone we see a slightly smaller 5.2-inch panel on the front of the Axon Mini. This is a Super AMOLED FHD 2.5D curved panel.
ZTE say the alloy body of the Axon mini is made from the same aluminum-titanium blend as the Boeing 787 which allows the chassis to come in at only 70mm wide with bezels of just 0.85mm.
Some cool features include the choice to use 3 biometric security features (fingerprint, voice print or eye scan) to keep your data safe, and a super fast voice search and translation feature (supporting English, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean).
ZTE will officially release the Axon Mini in Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Russia, Japan, India, Australia, France, Germany, Turkey, Spain and Italy. Prices are 2699 Yuan in China, $439 in Asia-Pacific areas and 389 Euros in Europe for the Premium Edition. A standard model will also be available for China: 2299 CNY (Ion Gold and Chromium Silver); 2399 CNY (Rose Gold), Asia-Pacific: 379 USD (Ion Gold and Chromium Silver); 399 USD (Rose Gold), Europe: 329 EUR (Ion Gold and Chromium Silver); 349 EUR (Rose Gold).
ZTE Axon Watch
Also on show in Shenzhen was the ZTE Axon watch. The wearable features a 1.4-inch Gorilla Glass display with an additional sapphire coating for extra durability, and IP67 certification. ZTE are using Tencent’s TOS (based on Android 5.1.1) on the watch, a 300mAh battery, 512mb RAM and 4GB storage.
The Axon watch will only be available in China for the time being, with no plans to launch the watch elsewhere at this time.
With pricing of the Axon Mini now set do you think it will be the next phone you choose?
i guess they are hoping to sell this phone to random people who have no idea what are they buying, like elderlies.
I lost interest when i read Snapdragon 616.
That’s like going to a French restaurant: you pay a lot for the classy place, classy atmosphere and classy presentation of the meal… But, in the end, you’re paying a lot of money and the dishes are nearly empty!
Now, the plate is not completely empty: specwise, it’s still a decent phone… But still overpriced!
This phone has the same price as the axon pro , The only distinctive feature being the Force touch , Hell is this bad
