Here is the metal bodied Meizu M2 note that will launch on 21st October

Current Meizu M2 Note owners and perhaps even owners of the Meizu MX5 are going to be shocked today as Meizu will release a new metal bodied Meilan model on the 21st October with a low price attached.

Our “Oh heck Not another new budget Meizu” story from yesterday continues with more information today, and the details aren’t looking good for anyone with a Meizu m2 note (and perhaps even MX5 owners).

To recap, a new Meizu phone was spotted in Antutu benchmarks yesterday. The mystery phone had similar specifications to current Meilan (the sub brand the M2 and M2 Note are listed under) phones, but boasting higher Antutu benchmarks, suggesting better overall performance.

That story continues today after Meizu posted launch even information on their Chinese social media channels. The event will be a Meilan launch and will be held on the 21st October at 2:30 pm, but there is more.

Soon after the internet got word of the launch, Chinese press started to receive invitations for the even that included a metal body for an unreleased Meizu phone. The unibody metal design arrived with reporters in a number of colours (silver and blue in the photos), and measures in at 8.2mm thick (slightly thinner than the polycarbonate version).

Specifications for the phone are believed t be a 2.0Ghz Meidatek MT6795 chipset (compared to the 1.3Ghz MT6573 in the m2 note), 5.5-inch 1080 FHD display with 2.5D glass panel (similar to the Meizu Pro 5), 2GB RAM, 16GB internal memory, 128GB micro SD card support, 5 mega-pixel front camera and 13 mega-pixel rear.

Already sources are claiming that the phone could cost as little as 999 Yuan in China, we believe it might cost slightly more at 1099 Yuan, but still a very cheap phone for the specs.

However with this phone launch Meizu have the possibility of upsetting current owners of the Meizu M2 (many of which felt forced to upgrade early from the m1 note), and even people who have the previous MX5 flagship.

get ready for some good deals on the M2 note then. Unless the camera’s a significant upgrade (unlikely) I wouldn’t upgrade, but for those looking to Meizu this looks great. my M2 note is a bit creaky in one spot, so metal build welcome, but that’s only complaint i got.

    Just switch to the A rom like mentioned below and 99% of it will be in English. The only thing still in Chinese is Flyme Store, My Flyme and Change Log (which can be found in English on forums).

Definitely releasing way to many phones, but not as many as xiaomi. Obviously trying to compete with the redmi note 2. Unfortunate though. Wish they would focus on tuning flyme a bit better. Wonder if it will launch with Flyme 5. Where does it say these are metal though? Looks like polycarbonate to me. No company in the world can make a fully unibody metal phone without sntennae strips.

  Xiaomi’s released 5 phones this year if I’m not mistaken. There’s the Mi Note, the Redmi 2, the Mi4i, the Redmi Note 2 and the Mi4C.
  By comparison, Meizu’s had the MX5, the Pro 5, the M1 Note, the M1, the M2 Note and the M2. In total, 6.

  I would prefer the metal build to a replaceable battery. The MX5 is so well built I have no need for a case. I have dropped it multiple times with nary a scratch on it.

  Xiaomi’s released 5 phones this year if I’m not mistaken. There’s the Mi Note, the Redmi 2, the Mi4i, the Redmi Note 2 and the Mi4C.

    Another issue is software update calender. Even, no update calenders for flagship models like pro series. Who knows about Flyme Os 5 update release dates for phone models? Waiting for updates is a kind of gamble.

      You got me wrong. If MTK don’t release a kernel code for upcoming Android Version (especially if it’s a major one) for the SoC you can’t expect update.

  Meizu has continued to support the MX5, they just released an OTA last week. I have zero issues with Flyme optimization either.

    Battery life still sucks, idle mode trains way too much.
    Apps keep on crashing, when installed from the play store.
    Memory Management, got a bit better, but is far from good.
    Camera isn’t optimized in the new Fylme either, the 20MP are far behind phones with a 13MP camera.
    So all in all, nope the Flyme 5 is just as bad as the previous one.
    And this is because Meizu does not care to optimize anything!

      I use it every single day, the MX5 is incredibly optimized. You must have an issue with yours. I get easily 1.5-2 days of battery. I haven’t had a single app crash and my camera is amazing (once I switched out the stock camera app for Opencamera).

        If you have mobile and wifi disabled most of the time disabled and the screen brightness to 20%, 1.5. to 2 days are right.
        For any other use case you get 1 day and a little bit more, no matter what you do the idle mode (or exactly called Phone Standby) eats it up. This is Flyme, the good old Flyme.
        And I have no issue with my phone, other than having Flyme on it. You must use a very limited amount of apps yourself. Check out the official and inofficial forums, loads of people complain about the countless bugs and the unoptimized Flyme. Just take some time to do a proper research.

  There are old bugs in Flyme5, that should have been fixed back a year ago.
  To make it short: Next Flyme, will neither be optimized nor a smooth experience.

It’s not the Meizu of yore; they decided to make a Meizu for everyone rather than one Meizu for all. Collaterally, they got to join in the cage match to fight it out with all the other brands caught in the endless cycle of rapid product introductions and keeping their name front and center in the press. The consumer chooses to either get infected by chronic upgraditis or purchase wisely and live happily with that purchase. Please stop trying to manufacture controversy where there is none.

As a current own of the MX5 I am neither shocked nor upset. I still have an amazing phone regardless of what else they release. This new phone does nothing to my experience, Meizu continues to support the MX5 (new OTA last week). If I had just bought it recently I could understand a little bit of anger, but there is always going to be a better phone released. And in this industry new phones are released every month.

        Meizu does some things right and some things wrong, so does Xiaomi, Huaweii, Lenovo and every other company in this industry. None of them are perfect they all have things they refuse to change about their products. I belong to the MIUI forums and the mood is the same as on Meizu forums and every other brand forum. As many people praise the phone, just as many have issues with it.

Yes Meizu m2 note is bit slow due to low processor. This would be nice step would be taken by Meizu to increase processor range from 1.3 to 2Ghz. This mobile will be best selling in India if this happened. I am pretty sure if they will keep same prise as earlier.
