Huawei Ascend P7 gets Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

Google has begun rolling out Android 6.0 Marshmallow to current Nexus owners (Nexus 6, 5, 7, 9, and Player), and Google Play Edition devices such as the HTC One M8 GPE are due to get the update sometime soon, but some devices are still on Android 5.0 Lollipop without 5.1.1. Huawei’s Ascend P7 has been in that camp – until now.

Fortunately, Huawei has put an end to the Ascend P7’s 5.0 run, bringing the device up to date with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, the last Lollipop update before Android Marshmallow. Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for the Ascend P7 brings Huawei’s Emotion UI 3.1 overlay and demands 1.26GB of space available on your device for the download. The Ascend P7 5.1.1 Lollipop update has been in testing since June, so we’re glad to see Huawei finally bringing it to last year’s flagship.

The Ascend P8 has received a 1.72GB firmware update, but Huawei has only brought the latest to 5.0 Lollipop, not 5.1.1. We don’t know the reason behind this decision, but the manufacturer wants to reward faithful customers who have purchased older devices. At the same time, however, if you want the very latest from Huawei and Android Marshmallow to boot, you can always pick up the Nexus 6P – which, in our opinion, is the better-looking of the two new Nexus devices, in more ways than one. If you’re a lucky Ascend P7 owner, head on over to your settings and hit that update button.

Ascend P7 owners, excited about 5.1.1 Lollipop? Were you hoping for Android Marshmallow to drop?
