The Huawei Ascend P8 Lite was released in the US earlier this year, and, as the company’s latest Nexus 6P could indicate, updates and the update process will determine the rise of Huawei in the US (though Huawei’s done a commendable job elsewhere). The Ascend P8 Lite came with Android 4.4 KitKat pre-installed, but Huawei has made Android 5.1 Lollipop available for US owners. The catch to this is that you’ll have to manually update your device, and Huawei says that you’ll need to 1) back up your data to an SD card before updating, and 2) have a microSD card with 4GB of free space available. The build number for this update is ALE-L04V100R001C00B124.
Huawei has already provided its list of Android Marshmallow-eligible devices, and, while the Ascend P8 is expected to update to Google’s latest, the US Ascend P8 Lite has not yet been confirmed as update-eligible. The list of devices is an initial list (not exhaustive), but we don’t know if US customers will see Android 6.0 anytime soon. For now, though, Android 5.1 Lollipop is the latest, and US Ascend P8 Lite owners can at least rejoice that they’ll have the most recent update to Android (Marshmallow excepted, that is).
