For the first time in its nearly two years of existence, OnePlus revealed a phone that isn’t a flagship killer, or even a flagship device per se.
Instead, the OnePlus X as it is known, is a mid-ranger with an older-gen processor, but one that’s a proven horse. The first OnePlus phone, the One, came with a Snapdragon 801, as does the OnePlus X. In fact, the OnePlus X and the first-gen OnePlus One share a lot in common.
The OnePlus X has a 5-inch 1920 x 1080p AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, 16/32GB of on-board storage, a 13 mega-pixel rear camera, an 8 mega-pixel front facing camera, and lastly, a 2525mAh non-removable battery. It all looks like a decent deal at the $249 starting price of the phone, but as always, there’s a catch with this OnePlus phone as well: you’ll need an invite to be able to purchase it.
Gizchina News of the week
What’s worse is that the phone will come in two style variants, in glass and ceramic; each will have a different invite. That is to say that you can’t just pay $249 and purchase the OnePlus X in a color/style of your choice; you’ll need to have specific invite for the version you want to purchase (and of course, the limited edition ceramic version is costlier).
But there’s a silver lining to this otherwise dull story. The invite system will last only for the first month, i.e., if you don’t plan on being an early adopter, you won’t be needing a OnePlus X invite to purchase the phone. Instead, there’ll be weekly open sales.
So, to be able to purchase the phone without a OnePlus X invite, all you have to do is hold out… for the first month.
So, who’s holding out to buy an invite-free OnePlus X?
Third possibility: popup events and specials sales. The first one will be held at Colette,Paris 😉 Expect to see me there (well, ok, it’s a long way for you to come here 😛 )
am i wrong or you were there also for the OP2 and, according to you words, was a complete disaster?
Yes, it was 🙂 I’m only hoping that they’ve learned from the past…and then this one will be OK… Time will tell…
I hope to hear from you about the phone. I also plan to get it, if it is OK.
