Micromax gives its newest (MT6753-powered) flagship a ninja launch

Micromax usually indulges in a lot of build-up for its upcoming phones, especially those that are targeted at tier-I and tier-II city buyers in its home country of India.

However, today’s launch of the new Micromax Canvas 5 lacked the sheen. Regardless, it’s the phone we’re interested in, so let’s get at it.

The Micromax Canvas 5 comes with a 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080p display and a MediaTek MT6753 64-bit octa-core processor with 3GB RAM an 16GB on-board storage (microSD supported upto 64GB).

Besides that, the new Micromax flagship features a 13 mega-pixel rear and a 5 mega-pixel front-facing camera, complete with front flash. Besides the camera, the front also has a 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass 3 coating on top of the screen.

The Canvas 5 is priced at 11,999 INR ($183), which makes it an interesting prospect. It has a 2900mAh battery.

bluboo xtouch is better for the same price

This one’s for the Indian market where Micromax is pretty big. And then there are things like after sales, etc… pretty sure no one besides the very adventurous souls will take the Xtouch over the Canvas 5. That isn’t to say you’re wrong, though.

If i recollect correctly, Bluboo Xtouch may trickle into the Indian market as an Aircel Phone. If that is correct, then we will have to wait and see how is the reaction. Aircel, may be considering post-sale services if it has to get it right.

But I do agree, Micromax is a Goliath here in India.

Aircel would provide about half of the after sales service there’s still a matter of updates from Bluboo. I used one Bluboo and never got a single OTA despite numerous bugs.

OTA was a problem with micromax as well. The last I used was until Mi3 launch. Haven’t turned back. Will have to see if micromax has improved now.

I only used one a Canvas Knight while I was on business in India for about two months. In that time I had 2 OTAs but overall the software didn’t have any major bugs.

say … how much would it cost to smuggle an Aircel phone (i.e Bluboo Xtouch) from India to Pakistan :p ?

you’re so lucky in india … i’d buy the Canvas 5 JUST on impulse if it was selling in Pakistan , with the exact same or better pricing !

On paper yes but how much experience does Bluboo have? I trust a brand like Micromax a lot more. I see them everywhere in India no matter where I go. For me if it’s between a “better” phone from a lesser brand and a comparable phone from a well known brand, I would always advice the well known brand.

I wonder which re-badged Chinese phone this is. Please let me know because I can buy it a lot cheaper directly from China.
