Huawei has been up to some interesting stuff this year. The Force Touch enabled Mate S first caught our attention, after which came the Honor 7 which flooded markets besides just China. The newest Huawei — the G7 Plus — is another interesting prospect.
Why? First, because Huawei say the phone’s chassis is ‘90% metal’, and second, its specifications (minus the SoC, perhaps). The G7 Plus has a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080p display, and with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage (expandable), the G7 Plus features the Snapdragon 615. It’s an SoC people have had mixed reactions about. While the Vivo X5Pro and the Xiaomi Mi 4i failed to impress, the Cyanogen OS powered Yu Yureka fared much better.
Coming back to the G7 Plus, the phone has a 13 mega-pixel RGBW, which is aided by OIS. You don’t always get to se OIS on mid-range phones, which is why the G7 Plus is an interesting phone as far as we’re concerned. The ‘90% metal’ chassis is made out of aviation-grade aluminium according to Huawei, and will be available in Silver, Gray, and Gold colour versions.
The G7 Plus is 7.5mm in thickness, and despite that features a 3000mAh battery. The phone is set to start selling in Asia in the coming weeks for an equivalent of $330.
Looks like the G8, has same specs like G8 (except. G8 has SD616, not SD615). So whats the difference.
I don’t really remember, but i think g8 has that hybrid nano sim/micro sd slot
Was a good mid ranger until I saw “Snapdragon 615”. Everything good is ruined by that SoC, the Kirin 620 would have been better.
Tweaking my mother’s new LeTV x600 and it’s bonkers. But the EUI Rom is very sharp on the edges and a little too much apple inspired.
A lot of them are a little to Apple inspired, luckily you can get it more Android like with some tweaking.
Would you please fill me in on why the SD 615 is a bad choice for a SoC
It throttles, overheats, has horrible battery life. Take your pic. If you stick to the very basics it is decent but once you do anything remotely processor intensive it comes to a crashing halt.
Comparing to what we saw past week from Meizu and Letv not interesting at all for the price.
Its camera seems promising, but it alone can’t make it interesting. The price is in the Chinese flagship territory.
Who cares percentage of metal in the chassis?
Metal is the new “it” word for phone marketing. Last year it was 64bit.
Many people dont realize Metal doesn’t guarantee good build quality and construction. IPhone 6 Plus is a good example, due to horrible design it’s more fragile than a paper phone.
Forget the iPhone 6 Plus, you need to see the new Nexus 6P’s durability (or lack of for that matter).
You are right about marketing value of metal. Though that 90% metal chassis sounds irrelevant.
6 Plus probably had a better percentage of metal in its chassis.
because along with 32GB rom , 3GB ram and OIS, G7 Plus and G8 also have finger print scanner for mid range device.
G7 Plus also has finger print scanner.
you guys are VERY lucky !
i hope we can get this in Pakistan too !
OF COURSE WE R LUCKY, WHY SHOULD WE GO FOR THE MUCH COSTLIEST DEVICE WHEN WE ARE GETTING MAXIMUM FEATURES AT THE LOWEST COST…….
yeah … but that NOT WHAT I MEANT !
i mean all the best chinese companies are opening official franchises in your country which automatically brings down prices AND guarantees good after sales support and i would like to see that in Pakistan too !
infact , i wouldn’t mind if you would import micromax and Yu Yureka mobiles to us !
the SD615 is just fine on my wifes alcatel idol 3. a tad sluggish occasionally but doesn’t overheat and battery life is quite good. this does seem a tad overpriced though considering the alcatel was $200 when i bought it.
You guys are fools if you think that your CPU is the reason why your phone is sluggish at times. Its the software, if i can run F60 with 0 lags, and it has pathetic S410 and 1GB ram, and slow 8GB nand…..then S615 with 2GB of ram and 32Gb storage/nand is mooooore then enough. Its either bad nand, or software, your CPU (S615) is more then fast enough.
