We are seeing a flood of sub $100 smartphones on the market in the run up to Christmas but none have as much RAM as UMi claim the new UMi Rome will have.
Over the past few weeks we have seen Chinese phone makers release phones for under $100, some for as little as $70. And for the money they have all looked pretty good, but as prices creep lower so does the amount of RAM available in them.
UMi are hoping to disrupt the sub $100 market with the UMi Rome, a phone the claim will cost only $89 yet will boast 3GB RAM and an octacore Mediatek MT6753 chipset.
Gizchina News of the week
For below $100 3GB RAM is currently unheard of, and an octacore 64bit processor is not common. UMi have also release additional details including 16GB internal storage, support for 128GB SD cards, front facing LED flash, 2500mAh battery and Android 5.1.
An image of the phone shows a device with curved rear and metal chassis that isn’t too dissimilar in terms of design from the UMi Hammer S.
At this time we don’t know if UMi are ready to launch the UMi Rome, or are still waiting for component costs to drop so they can launch the phone at this low price, a strategy that has played out well for Elephone over the past year.
Wow this one, i will definitely wait
Well I’m not sure 3GB of RAM is really needed here but sure, why not 🙂
