Pepsi's Phone P1s is now official with an outdated SoC for $110

Pepsi surprised everyone when they acknowledged that they had indeed been working on a smartphone — a first for them — a few weeks back.

Well, the phone is now official with the specs that were mentioned in the leaks. If you haven’t been around, you’ll be disappointed to know that the Pepsi Phone P1s comes with only a MediaTek MT6592 processor, i.e. MediaTek’s oldest octa-core.

However, Pepsi seem to have realised they aren’t offering the latest tech with the Phone P1s, and have therefore priced the device at a not-so-bad $110.

Full specifications of the phone include a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080p display, a 13 mega-pixel rear camera, 5 mega-pixel front facing camera, 2GB RAM, and of course, the aforementioned 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor.

The Phone P1s is fuelled by a 3000mAh battery and taken control of by dido OS 6.1 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. As mentioned before, it is priced at $110 and will be made available via JD.com.

Not sure if its a completely new design or a rebrand, but the front of the phone reminds me of the Oukitel U8.

        Might be too soon for you, but could be some sweet deal around next few days with Black Friday weekend.
        A lot of the resellers are doing regular email newsletter (only) deals as well which occasionally have some bargains i.e. latest SJ5000x Elite was $119 recently, whereas $149 online; so worth signing up to them all.

Am i the only one that thinks this is a good deal for 110 dollars? Most 4G phones are using the powered down 6735 at 1.0ghz which is a slowboat compared to the MTK6592 at 1.7Ghz. I have a tablet with this SOC and i’m yet to be dissapointed by it’s performance

  I agree, at its price point it ain’t a bad deal for anyone who wants a solid, well tried combination of parts. Also there aren’t many MT6592 phones running lollipop!

  Yes you are right, 6592 is better than the 35p, it scores around 27, 28 k in antutu, with a full HD screen

    The 6592 is better because of Antutu? What does those numbers really mean? Because one is higher that means the SoC is better? (Even though the 6735p has the same score range for some phones).
    What about the fact that the 6735 is much better in three crucial points: GPU, GPS performance and Efficiency. The older MTK chips were notroiously bad when it came to GPS, I had several 6592 and 6582 phones that you needed to stand on top of a mountain to get a signal. That isn’t a problem with the 6735. And then there is the GPU the T720 is a huge improvement over the 450 used in the 6592. The T720 supports Open GL 3.0 and is much more energy efficient thanks to the midgard architecture. With this same setup and a 6735p you would see almost 40% more battery life.
    If you are gonna say a chip is better provide something other than some meaningless numbers. The 6592 was a good chip in 2013, even today it is a decent chip. It is slightly faster than 6735p but a SoC is about far more than just raw speed and overall it doesn’t even come close to the 6735p.

      I’ve had experience with two 6735p phones myself [the Oukitel U8(2850mAh) & Bluboo x550(5300mAh)] and I can confirm that its’t a very efficient and cucumber cool chip.
      That 1.0 Ghz clock really extends bettery life(got a day’s worth of battery from the Oukitel and three from the Bluboo with brightness set to half and moderate everyday tasks )
      Raw cpu power is good to have but at a -$150 price who’s going to complain, as long as candycrush dosn’t lag much.
      And your rigth on point Antutu isn’t useful for anything other then “Bragging Rigths” if i may, An Antutu benckmark isn’t even the last thing I would look at when judging a phone.

        part is hilarious as (still) not many apps take advantage of the 64bit architecture supported by Android L which would make more cores useful.
        That’s why iPhones 6s custom dual-core don’t suffer (also thanks to BIG os optimizations) and a single core can be/is more powerful than a octa-core cpu with all cores on (exynos 7420 being an exception on multi-core because of higher clocks )

      Still i have a (excuseme) dg550 on my wife side, and it’s been a true figther… i would just defend the nice pricing for the phone as that SoC will run most apps with little lag,,, dealing with signal power is another story as well as battery consumpion, but i guewss they do it so people with less knowledge will be impressed by the “OCTA-CORE” badge.

        It’s not a bad SoC at all it has some good power and in 2013 it was a very good mid range SoC. In Android Octacore means very little as most apps never take advantage of more than two cores.

        Even browsers can use 8 cores, let alone games, and when you multitask.
        And even then, there are a ton of processes always going on in the background.

        Any app ‘can use’ all 8 cores but most don’t. Most are designed to use only 1 or 2 cores. Some broswers like Chrome will use more, and some games will as well.

        It is true, most apps in Android are designed to use only 1 or 2 cores. Google apps are designed to use multi core and some games are but those are the exception. As for background processes, you should have very little running otherwise you are destroying your battery. Multitasking is more dependent on RAM than the CPU.

        Those are the most common apps for who? I don’t play a single game on my phone and I don’t use any Gapps accept Maps. For you those maybe the most commonly used but you don’t represent the entire Android population. More people use Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Twitter, Whatsapp, Skype, Instagram, Viber, Line, Pandora, We Chat, Snapchat, Netflix and Ebay than most games. Those apps are always on the top of the most downloaded/used apps list. Octacore doesn’t mean anything more than Quadcore, extra cores doesn’t mean extra performance. Just like with cameras extra MP’s doesn’t mean a better picture.

        2) most of the apps you listed fall in the “making calls” or “texting” category.

        1. Efficiency has more to do with the type of cores than the number of cores. The two SoC’s we are talking about the 6592 uses A7 cores, the 6735 uses A53. According to ARM, the A53 is more efficient than the A7.
        2. Most of the apps I listed are the most used apps. It doesn’t matter what there function is. Your original premise was the “most used apps were” not the “most used non texting and phone call apps”. You realize you were wrong and are trying everything to not admit you were wrong.
        3. You think but once again you don’t really know. Android Apps are Java programs designed to run in a virtual machine. Some apps are nothing more than glorified web pages in which Android Web Viewer allows you to open them like Apps. Some web browsers are also written in Java, all apps “behave” similarly based on the way they are written.

        No you said most of what I posted was BS. So what was BS?
        Yes do your research and know those tests were done in a 32 bit environment which didn’t take advantage of the 64 bit technology found in the A53. The technology which makes it more efficient. They were also done using Samsung SoC’s which behave and are manufactured completely differently than the Mediatek SoC’s we are discussing. Once again your attempts too look smart fail.

        1) as of now, 64 bit support makes A53 just a little bit faster. Thus, it’s still less efficient than A7.
        2) the exynos 5433 and 5430 are manufactured on the same 20nm HKMG node, thus comparing them is totally fair and legit.
        3) you don’t get that, regardless of core arch, 8 cores at 1GHz are more efficient than 4 cores at 2GHz. That’s why I talked about efficiency.
        I already told you that I don’t care about looking smart, so just cut that shiet.

        Mediatek doesn’t use 20nm, it has no basis in this argument. Neither does 2ghz 4 cores. The two SoCs we are discussing and the only two is a 1.7ghz 6592 and a 1ghz 6735. Introducing others is you deflecting from the original argument. A 6735 is moee efficient than a 6592. It uses more efficient cores clocked at a lower speed.

        Are you rtarded? The fact that both the 5430 and 5433 are manufactured on the same node means that direct comparisons can be done, and the test clearly shows that A7 is more efficient than A53.
        I NEVER DISCUSSED ABOUT 6592 VS 6735, but as I said, you understood whatever you wanted.
        The “8 cores at 1GHz consume less than 4 cores at 2GHz” claim is a general rule, meaning that 8 cores properly used are more efficient than 4.
        I didn’t introduce any other SoC, and I never argued about 6592 vs 6735 to begin with. That was just a general rule, but you failed to see the obvious point, that ANY ONE fairly knowledgeable about electronics knows.

Go back and read the original comment you replied too. Of course reading and comprehending are very hard for you. And once again those Samsung tests are flawed because they don’t take advantage of the 64 bit environment of modern Android. You fail to get that Android 5.0 is 64 bit and efficiency is one of the few things that fully takes advantage of 64 bit. Most of 64 bit is still untapped, efficiency is not one of them. It’s actually not a bad phone for the money, the SoC is outdated but the rest of the specs are good. Thrown in a couple 12 packs of Mountain Dew I might be interested lol.

Its actually a good deal. You get a good looking well built phone with good camera specs(atleast on paper) good battery good ram, full hd display . Only in processor dept its outdated. But it has lte… Its a good deal for those with that lte bands.
