Snapdragon 615-powered $399 OPPO R7s will go on sale next week

OPPO’s extended R7 range of smartphones recently got another addition in the form of the OPPO R7s. The phone is powered by the same Snapdragon 615 as other phones in the lineup.

The OPPO R7s is $399 and will go on sale early next week, on December 1st. It’ll be made available to buyers via OPPO’s long-time online retail partner, OPPOStyle.com and via Amazon in the UK, France and Germany.

Full specifications of this smartphone include a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080p AMOLED display, the aforementioned octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of on-board storage, and 13 mega-pixel / 5 mega-pixel rear and front cameras, respectively.

The phone runs OPPO’s ColorOS 2.1 atop Android 5.1 Lollipop. OPPO isn’t marketing the phone based on what specs it has on offer for the money (clearly) but instead, a solid build quality and user experience.

Given the specs, this phone should have been priced at 149.99, or max 159.99 (since the Ram is a bit high). Otherwise, it’s a useless low-end device, along the lines of GooPhone and Zopo……..

Breaking news guys not everyone buys a phone based on it’s SoC. Your average consumer wouldn’t be able to tell you much about the specs of their phone.

You have no idea about premium materials, workmanship and great customer service and guarantee. Go buy those helios Antutu champions, flimsy plastic phones for cheap. No problem. These Oppo phones are not for you anyway, why are you so upset. Go buy your metal Redmi Note3, that’s the best Antutu champ for your $

  lol, that’s not the problem. You can say all you want about build but Colour OS is pretty weak, ive used it a fair bit. Although Oppo’s new more stock like rom looks promising. But the Snapdragon 615 is one of Qualcomms worst CPU’s to date its well known, you would be completely insane to spend $400 on a phone with SD615 regardless of build quality or materials or anything. Snapdragon 801 and even the 810 are better cpus and considering that Oppos parent company own Oneplus and their devices are manufactured in the same factories i’m not sure why you would by this over the Oneplus x or One Plus 2 as build quality will likely be the same.

The problem with this is the same as all near-premium Qualcomm-powered phones from 2015: it is an awesome phone really, but costs far, far more than it deserves to. If this phone was available for half the price it would kill the market. For ⅔ the price it would still be a hot, competitive piece of kit. It is unfortunately just too expensive.
