Vivo X6 and X6 Plus launched full specs

Vivo have announced the details of their two latest Android smartphones today. Keep reading for the full details and specs of the Vivo X6 and Vivo X6 Plus.

Vivo have launched two new phones today, but the surprise isn’t in the hardware (which follows what rumours were telling us) but rather how similar these two phones look like the iPhone. We’re not sure what made Vivo go down the iPhone style route but they have and even produced a Rose Gold version of their latest.

Vivo X6

The smaller of the two new phones is the Vivo X6, with a 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080 AMOLED display and slim 6.56mm body. Oddly Vivo have chosen to use a 64bit 1.7Ghz Mediatek MT6752 processor. On one hand this is quite good news as the X5 Pro with Snapdragon 615 was badly optimised, but on the other hand why have they chosen the MT6752 when even the Redmi Range has a Helio X10 on board?

Other details of the X6 are a 13 mega-pixel rear camera, 8 mega-pixel front (both with PDAF fast focus) and 4GB RAM. The slim phone has just enough room for a 2400mAh battery, which doesn’t worry us too much as Vivo are pretty good in the battery department.

Vivo X6 Plus

If bigger phones are what you prefer then the Vivo X6 Plus s the phone for you with a larger 5.7-inch FHD AMOLED display, and a larger 3000mAh battery his the slightly thicker 6.85mm chassis.

Both phones have fingerprint scanners on the rear, have Micro SD support, and boasts audio processor. A high end ES9028 DAC audio chip, ES9603 amp and Yamaha YSS-205X are all stuffed inside and promise quality audio.

Vivo generally only make high-end phones so pricing is unsurprisingly higher than most other devices. The X6 will cost from $390 while the larger X6 Plus will cost from $469.

      The problem is there is only so much you can do with metal phones. But I always laugh at the Western Media who completely ignore how close the 6 resembles an HTC but then will call out every phone that resembles a 6. They all borrow design elements from one another, most of them use the same ODM’s.

Was so disappointed when I read the specs earlier as all the rumours were false and this isn’t/wasn’t worth the wait, will have to look elsewhere for my next phone as this is very overpriced for the specs even by Vivo’s standards. BTW I read on Chinese forums that the headphone socket doesn’t support hifi audio, there’s some very p*ssed off people on there as it’s the one major selling point of their phones!

Epic fail. They could put in X6 (I don’t mean X6 Plus) even a 4000mAh battery without making it any thicker. It’s quite possible with flat back design and thin Super AMOLED display which it has both and 700+ Wh/l dense batteries which is available on the market.
There is no excuse for such a ridiculously small battery capacity.

  I dont know of any phones that are under 7mm with a huge battery. The most recent ones in that category have all been well under:

  Galaxy A8 – 3050
  Elife S7 – 2750

    Battery capacity is directly related to volumetric density of the battery and how much volume dedicated to the battery in the device itself.
    Inner volume depends on overall thickness minus screen thickness and other staff like board size. That means you can put a larger battery in the same dimensions with an OLED hence it’s only half as thick a LCD. Also shape of the phone is important. In theory they could make Li-Po batteries at any shape, but in practice almost every one of them is roughly rectangular. So arched backs and rounded edges is an obstacle to using all the inner volume.
    Lets look at the P8. It’s slightly shorter and narrower than X6 and more importantly slimmer. P8 has larger battery in a slimmer device moreover it has a LCD display. With an OLED display they could make it even more than 1mm slimmer or could put in it a larger battery (like 3500 mAh) at same thickness.
    Xiaomi put a 3140mAh battery in Mi4i. Its thickness is just 7.8mm and it also packed with a LCD display. Though its not rounded like some other phones, it isn’t rectangular either.
    We didn’t see large batteries in slim phones yet, but it’s entirely possible.
    I didn’t blame this phone because it hasn’t a huge battery, I blame it because that isn’t thin enough to explain such a tiny battery.

  Hey Balco, I am a big fan of Vivo phones recently having purchased an XShot but I have a big concern with them using a 6752 in a new phone. It isn’t the performance as such but rather the lack of updates. Has Mediatek released the code for this so Vendors can work on updates? I have a Ulefone Be Touch 2 which seems to be stuck on Android 5.0 due to the same.
  Don’t actually like this phone anyway as its way too close to an iPhone look. Real shame they went down this path.

    Mediatek has because iOcean updated the Rock to 5.1, the problem is many of the cheaper Chinese vendors don’t update their devices.

This phone is for girls who love iphones and don’t care about specs but good quality. Is the only reason I can think, it’s not a bad phone anyway but too expensive for those specs.

I can point you to plenty of girls who know more about phone specs than most people on here and I can point you to plenty of guys who don’t know the difference between Mediatek and Qualcomm. Try expanding your horizons to more than your limited views, you would be amazed what is out there.

I’m very disappointed with ViVo, 4GB RAM coupled with a low budget CPU? It was supposed to be a monster, but nah…I think I’ll stick for now with my beloved Meizu MX4 and by the Christmas I’ll go for LeTV Le 1 Pro.

  The 6752 may not cost much and may not be the best but it is far from a “budget” CPU. In terms of performance it is between a SD805 and the Helios X10.

      Not even close, have you ever actually used a 6752? It was such a good SoC Mediatek stopped production because it was too close to the performance of an X10. I would venture to say it was the greatest SoC released in 2015.

        Yep, my brother and sister both have a Mlais M7, mother in law has a Mlais M52 and sister in law has a Lenovo K3 Note, the Mlais M7s don’t perform that great, poor battery and generally slow and laggy (I mention poor battery because the 6752 isn’t very well optimized in this area), the M52 isn’t amazing in any way shape or form and the K3 Note is a nice device but my OnePlus One still runs circles round it…
        Just because the 6752 is newer and on paper has it’s Octacore setup but I think the good old solid SD801 running at 2.5ghz would have it… The X10 is more matched for the SD801, not the 6752!

        If we are talking just as processors and not taking the GPU into account (which SD is better at no question) the 801 isn’t in the same class as the X10. The closest SD chip to the X10 would be the 808. You’re not giving Mediatek near the amount of respect they earned with these current gen 64 bit chips. They completely out classed Qualcomm at every level.
        X10 > SD810 (due to performance issues)

    Its GPU is way worse than SD801. While CPU is equal.
    A Kirin 930 with Mali T624 MP4 has better GPU than this.
    This is just a midrange soc for budget phones under 150-200 USD. Hell Xiaomi and meizu is using helio x10 in that price range.

this phone is for the people who loves gut hifi quality, for music fans, my old vivo xshot was the best music phone ever, CPU IS NOT SO IMPORTANT for best music experience!

  The audio is good for my Vivo X5Pro and I expect similar or better quality for X6 series but the software is crippling for me. Even MT6752 can’t save the product when software is that poor.

  It gets slaughtered by LG V10, Meizu 5 Pro and few others… x5max has proper audio, but x6 or x5pro has only DAC and no amp etc.

  Not that well actually. Vivo has a nickname for their Chinese name which translate as Cheating Step By Step. For the specs, I think the X6 series are somewhat overpriced with what the market is offering. At the same time, I feel the software optimisation for Vivo phones are lacking behind LeTV or Xiaomi.

    Over priced? The iPhone6s Plus or Edge+ are double the price of this in the Chinese market. Fact is unless you’re in China then you cannot see the huge retail presence they have on the streets not to mention they sponsor some of the most popular Chinese television programs on local TV. A 500m radius around me there’s got to be at least 40 shops selling phones, I’d say at least 80+% are selling Vivo’s (or are in fact Vivo-branded shops) and less than 10% are selling Xiaomi’s and to be honest haven’t really looked but at the same never seen a shop selling LeTV phones (but I’m sure there must be some).
    Like I said, this is for the Chinese market and I totally get these phones are typical gizchina reader kryptonite who want everything for the price of nothing (hint: never gonna happen).

        Xiaomi and Huawei are leading the pack for 2015 with Huawei taking the throne in Q3 2015. Lenovo, TCL and Oppo rounded up the top 5 of the domestic brands for Q3 2015. I suspect Vivo to be 6th after being 5th in Q2 2015.

      Vivo X6 and X6 Plus are going to have a really tough time challenging either iPhone 6S Plus or Samsung S6 Edge Plus with these specs. Both Vivo and LeTV sponsors popular TV programmes but lets not forget hard figures. For the period Q2 2015, Vivo is only 5th with 9.2% of market share in China. Vivo is definitely a major player in China but I don’t feel that Vivo X6 series will help them defend the onslaught from newer players like LeTV and OnePlus.

  The audio is good for my Vivo X5Pro and I expect similar or better quality for X6 series but the software is crippling for me. Even MT6752 can’t save the product when software is that poor.

  It gets slaughtered by LG V10, Meizu 5 Pro and few others… x5max has proper audio, but x6 or x5pro has only DAC and no amp etc.

Like it or not these phones are designed and priced with the local Chinese market in mind and believe it or not they sell well in China.

  Not that well actually. Vivo has a nickname for their Chinese name which translate as Cheating Step By Step. For the specs, I think the X6 series are somewhat overpriced with what the market is offering. At the same time, I feel the software optimisation for Vivo phones are lacking behind LeTV or Xiaomi.

  Over priced? The iPhone6s Plus or Edge+ are double the price of this in the Chinese market. Fact is unless you’re in China then you cannot see the huge retail presence they have on the streets not to mention they sponsor some of the most popular Chinese television programs on local TV. A 500m radius around me there’s got to be at least 40 shops selling phones, I’d say at least 80+% are selling Vivo’s (or are in fact Vivo-branded shops) and less than 10% are selling Xiaomi’s and to be honest haven’t really looked but at the same never seen a shop selling LeTV phones (but I’m sure there must be some).
  Like I said, this is for the Chinese market and I totally get these phones are typical gizchina reader kryptonite who want everything for the price of nothing (hint: never gonna happen).

  EDIT: I think the friction is that when I comment I’m really commenting from a business/marketing perspective and most people here are commenting from a consumer/end-user perspective.

  Vivo X6 and X6 Plus are going to have a really tough time challenging either iPhone 6S Plus or Samsung S6 Edge Plus with these specs. Both Vivo and LeTV sponsors popular TV programmes but lets not forget hard figures. For the period Q2 2015, Vivo is only 5th with 9.2% of market share in China. Vivo is definitely a major player in China but I don’t feel that Vivo X6 series will help them defend the onslaught from newer players like LeTV and OnePlus.

  Xiaomi and Huawei are leading the pack for 2015 with Huawei taking the throne in Q3 2015. Lenovo, TCL and Oppo rounded up the top 5 of the domestic brands for Q3 2015. I suspect Vivo to be 6th after being 5th in Q2 2015.

Ok, maybe I’m stupid and a bit behind in the tech department but I just today bought a X6Plus in gold colour. Actually I had decided to buy a Meizu MX5 but before I arrived at the Meizu store there was a Vivo store and I just took a quick test with the X6, it felt really snappy. Then I went to the Meizu store and started tinkering with the phones. I got a real shock discovering that the slight lagginess that irritated me in my MX4 (which is in total a very good phone) was still there in the MX5 and MX5Pro. The Meilan felt much better. Also the MX5 camera was totally unacceptable, pictures were not sharp.
I feel that Meizu is a brand that simply buys a lot of high end components (like the camera) and put them together but the whole package is not well integrated and underperforms.
I then went back to the Vivo store and after some playing with the phones decided to buy the X6Plus. So far so good, the phone is much snappier than anything Meizu has and the fingerprint reader works.
Please remember that Apple has traditionally been behind in the hardware department but the user experience and the camera have been top notch. You can make up for a lot of so-so hardware by optimizing the software. If you also have a long term plan for your development you can reuse and fine-tune your software between models and come up with a really nice phone even if the specs read ho-hum. And remember that the X6Plus has 4GB RAM which probably compensates for some weaknesses in the CPU. And the MTK 6752 is perhaps not a top performing Soc by today’s standards but it is also not a dog. So please use the phone before you dismiss it.

Ok, now I’ve had the phone for one day and installation is almost complete. Getting Google to run is easy if You read Chinese, otherwise it takes some thinking. Vivo has an installer in their App store but not even the sales person in the shop knew about it and installed Google the wrong way. Also I had some issues with app compatibility in Play Store but I solved them by manual apk installation. In other words, just like many Chinese phones.
Apart from this the phone is fantastic, performance is top notch without any lags. Outlook sync is perfect, have tried mail, calendar and contacts.
The camera is amazing, almost like a cheap compact which says a lot for a smartphone. Pictures are sharp with good exposure. If Vivo is going to beat this in the next XShot they will need to use some really terrific hardware and come up with some new features in the camera app, merely going to 20 MP or so will not make a difference. Maybe raw format would be useful. If you enable GPS for the camera then it will look up the address and set as location in the jpegs – really good feature!
I do not play games but anyone who is prepared to pay 2998 RMB for a classy do-everything phone with high quality build and does not require high end gaming performance will do well to check out the X6 / X6 Plus.
