As promised by Xiaomi, you can now download and flash Windows 10 to your Xiaomi Mi 4.
The Mi 4 happens to be the first Xiaomi phone to benefit from the Microsoft-Xiaomi partnership. There’s a catch, however; the Windows 10 ROM for the Mi 4 is currently available only in Chinese, thereby eliminating the possibility of non-Chinese users flashing the ROM.
Xiaomi’s Mi Pad 2 that was launched recently is another Xiaomi device to offer Windows support, but that version of the Mi Pad 2 will go on sale a bit later… after the Android/MIUI version.
Gizchina News of the week
Coming back to Windows 10 for the Mi 4, unless you have another spare phone (ability to read Chinese is a given) we wouldn’t recommend you try and flash Windows 10 on it, at least not just yet. There’s confusion about which versions of the Mi 4 support the ROM; Xiaomi say that it is only for the LTE version.
You’ll also have to register for the Windows Insider program, and feedback from you would be expected which will be used to shape the next-gen Windows ROM for phones.
Full instructions and details can be found over at the MIUI Forums where the announcement was made.
Is the SoC x86 based or ARM(sd801)? If ARM you will need special executables to run any familiar software.
That’s really funny.. -_-
Have you even tried WindowsPhone? It feels multiple times faster compared to android on the same specs.
It makes sense though , alot fewer services run at the same time. For example my Nokia 8310 feels exceedingly fast but only does 5 things.
I think a more relevant metric is fps/processes running. If you have 60 frames but only run 5 processes on the background, then your phone is less efficient than one that does 50 FPS while 30 processes run on the background.
It is faster but the lack of apps kills any advantage that speed gives you.
i guess you don’t appreciate some sarcasm.
anyway, to answer to your question, no, i haven’t tried any windows phone lately and I’m not planning to because speed isn’t an issue to me.
speaking of speed any mid-ranger satisfies all my needs already.
Unless you do a lot of video editing (or anything else processor intensive) you will never need as much speed as these phones offer.
“any mid-ranger satisfies all my needs already.” as long as it doesn’t have SD615 Am I Right?
You’ll have plenty of room because there are no apps to use for it. I am forced to use for one work, if i didn’t have an Android phone i would be screwed. Several apps I need are not available for Windows or have limited usability.
I don’t work for the mobile side but I do work for Microsoft. I resisted using a Windows Phone as long as possible but they finally threatened me to use one.
This is true, although that could keep the wife occupied while I play video games….
Haha, you deserve that if you work for Microsoft 😀 My step uncle works for MS too and he brought a shitty Samsung Windows 8 tablet home once… its UI sucked big time and it even had a noisy fan, lol.
They gave me a Lumia 640, which isn’t horrible but its not exactly their best phone but then they surprised me by giving me a Surface Pro 3.
WP uses many advanced cryptographic modules, and comparing to other mobile systems around, it is well known for its security standards.
Your comment makes no logical sense, even as sarcasm.
right, everybody knows how vulnerable Android and iOS are.
People can barely use their phones due to malwares.
the guy before talked about speed, now you are bringing its fantomatic security modules.
try again Steve Ballmer.
The Antivirus companies have made billions with you guys, and still haven’t seen a penny from Apple, Linux or Android. just saying
how does it work with updates, you get it from windows (microsoft) or from the phone manufacturer
i believe you get updates from the phone manufacturer the same way it happens with Android.
Yay, Windows on my phone too… Oh joy
its now available in english also
Might be a stupid question, but is it possible to use continuum with this phone or is it a Lumia 950 / 950XL Feature?
Nope it isn’t
It is possible. . . If it had a usb C. That’s what make usb c special, its a all purpose connector.
USB Type C is not required for Continuum. The only USB requirement for Continuum is a USB 2.0 that supports dual role. Type C is recommended but not because it is all purpose, it’s because it is based off of USB 3,0 which offers much higher transfer speeds than 2.0 and will give you a much better user experience. That is the main benefit of Type C.
But what is required is a Snapdragon 808 or 810, those are the only SoC’s that currently support the Continuum feature and those would make it impossible to use it on the Mi4.
My point exactly. Though continuum is practically useless for L950 and L950xl because it had an ARM chip, not X86. even if some people would benefit from increased productivity, legacy app or app that made for X86 that cant run on it would render it useless for power user.
