We asked last night what company you think will be the first one to launch a Snapdragon 820 phone. It is almost as though Xiaomi bosses read the open thread and sent a message via a leak!
News is that the Xiaomi Mi 5 has leaked yet again, and this time there’s also a launch date that’s tagging along with the render.
Yesterday, we saw an image of an alleged Mi 5 depicting a slim size bezel; today’s leak depicts a more front-on Mi 5.
As for the launch date, we’re hearing that January 21st is when the Mi 5 will be finally shown off to the world, more than a year and a half after the launch of the Xiaomi Mi 4.
Gizchina News of the week
Worth noting is that the render shows a physical home button for the Mi 5. If that does turn out to be true, it’ll mark the first usage of a physical home button for a Xiaomi phone.
Now that even the mid-range Redmi Note 3 has a fingerprint sensor, you can safely assume that the Mi 5 will have one too. And if the physical home button is indeed a thing, there are chances that it’ll also be home to the fingerprint scanner.
How’s the Mi 5 shaping up for ya’ll?
An home button is highly unlike imho, it just don’t fit with xiaomi’s usual design choises :-/
I agree
Fingerprint scanner has to go somewhere and if they decide they want it on the front it will have a home button.
I want to be surprised with a scanner on the screen. Know it is a fantasy for now though.
Yash – isn’t the Find 9 talking about some “hidden scanner” and planning to use some Qualcomm technology.
It’s not like i don’t like home buttons, but in this case it would really be against xiaomi’s usual design choices, i don’t see that coming so soon… Moreover, the meizu mx4 pro’s home button, here photoshopped on a redmi, is really ugly! xD
I agree it looks horrible photoshopped but I actually like the look of it.
Xiaomi design choices are usually shaped by the industry, more specifically what Apple is doing.
Home buttons looks good on Meizu phones except MX4 Pro IMO.
Every possible placement for fingerprint scanner have its own drawbacks.
I don’t say how good looking Meizu buttons. I’d say about Xiaomi. For more my friends, who own phones with fingerprint scanner, it’s useless feature or not so important. Redmi Note 3 have it on a right side, IMO.
Fingerprint scanners becoming norm for the flagship phones. Next year any high-end handset without some sort of biometric ID sensor probably will be in trouble.
Back faced fingerprint scanner is handier IMO too, when it’s in your hand, but you can’t use it while it’s on the desk.
Ofc i know. Didn’t make sense tho.
Most people, myself included, are so used to calling them OPO we sometimes forget to take the O off when describing the second phone.
So you’re saying that being “used to” writing with mistakes is fine?
I am saying people make mistakes, we come here to talk about phones and technology not grammar mistakes. You make plenty of grammar mistakes yourself, as do I. If we spend time pointing out every single one we will never talk about phones.
Well, this conversation didn’t have to be this long. They other guy accepted that he made a mistake and that would be it if you wouldn’t meddle.
Some people don’t know that much about phones, that’s why i pointed out the mistake.
We wouldn’t be having this conversation if you didn’t meddle with his mistake. Someone who doesnt know that much about phones won’t know what OPO means to begin with. Someone who knows what OPO means, knows what he meant. You just wanted to look like the smartest guy in the room.
What is OnePlus One 2?! There is OnePlus One, and there is OnePlus 2. I never heard about OnePlus One 2.
Pixar has little to do with Apple, the only connection is Steve Jobbs, who when he started at Pixar had been fired by Apple. John Lasseter is the real driving innovator behind Pixar.
Will read up more on Pixar and John Lasseter. Yeah, I read about Jobs fired by Scully and the Pixar story. Will read more though. Thanks for the tip.
I have the OnePlus One and I always hit the home button by mistake since I cannot feel it. it’s annoying!
I’ve seen too many Xiaomi “leaks” (even more so with the Mi5) to know that most of them are fake. I’ll believe it when I see it.
I am laughing thinking about the “most powerful phone on the planet” and their launch on Dec 17. I am talking about Yu Yutopia rumored to be with SD810; unless they pull a coup and get a few SD820’s smuggled on Dec 11.
I can wait a month for Mi5. 😀
This one look fake to me too.
Most Xiaomi leaks are fake. Unless it has a TENNA certification I don’t buy into it. Even then I am still skeptical.
