Meizu have launched a new phone every 2 couple of months (on average) for the past year, so what’s their 19th December announcement going to be?
Meizu’s Weibo account lit up today with a teaser pointing at a 19th December announcement, but what could it be? Well over in China Meizu have been offering trade in deals for the MX4 range to people wanting to update their phones so the news might have something to do with this, it might also be another special one day sale, or it could be something else.
Gizchina News of the week
We have heard rumours that Meizu might be launching a smaller 4.7-inch Meizu Pro 5 with metal build and high-end hardware including a Samsung Exynos chip, this ‘big news’ might be the announcement for the launch date of this new phone.
Then again it could be another set of Meizu headphones, a new smart home product or something totally new. Any ideas?
I am still waiting for well optimized rom for my M1 Note! By the way, M1 Note is my first and last Meizu device. I don’t think to buy a new Meizu handset after M1 Note experience.
That’s a shame because the MX5 is incredibly well optimized and receives a new OTA update every few weeks.
xmas picture.
my 3 year old son made me watch rudolf the reindeer hundreds of times already
I tell you the Mi5 needs to really knock my socks off or Xiaomi might lose me as a dedicated fanboy. I have used probably close to a hundred phones over the years only 4 have I ever fallen in love with:
Xiaomi Mi3
Xiaomi Mi4
Gionee E3
Meizu MX5
When i won that contest I figured I would use the MX5 for a few months then buy something new, never thought I would love it so much.
i know. I’ve never touched a MX5 but I’m sure it would be my favorite phone if it had MiUI.
I’m just teasing you because i can see how in love you are with this phone.
MI5?
agree with you. it better come with all the goodies otherwise I’ll pass too.
I’m not a SoC fanatic so SD820 means nothing to me.
Talk me about NFC, Fingerprint scanner, amazing camera, something more than 16GBb and I’m sold.
I know that SD card, US LTE simply won’t happen so i won’t bother with that (for now)
and BE CHEAP!!!
For me I would like to see the following in the Mi5 to consider buying it:
– 5. 2” display, this is the sweet spot for me after using a 5.5″ for awhile. (Would prefer 1080p for battery life but it’s probably going to be 2 or 4k)
– NFC, not really that important to me as it is near useless in Asia, but it does hold a lot of promise for the future.
– Fingerprint
– 3-4 GB RAM
– IMX 298 or 300
– PDAF
Storage really isn’t an issue to me, 16GB is enough for me as I use the cloud heavily now. On the MX5 I have between 5-7GB of free space at any time.
what cloud service do you use?
im having an issue with MI cloud because when i delete some pics on the phone it also delete them from the cloud one syncing.
i’d like to keep the pics online while i free space on the phone.
suggestions?
I use Google Photos. They give you 15GBfree, but I bought a Chromebook and got an extra 100GB. But the 15GB is for full size photos and videos, if you choose to use compressed photos you have unlimited storage. You can set it up to only upload on WiFi and it uploads pretty quickly.
For music I use Google Plus, $9.99 a month and they have virtually every song.
Google photo is amazing!
thanks pal.
I added 100GB for $1.99 a month.
Yea it really is amazing. I was using a variety of different sites and then my GF actually got me to try Google. I found it uploads the fastest, was easiest and most cost effective as well. I actually have been using it for 4 years now and have never paid for it. I got 2 years (100GB) free initially with my first Chromebook. 2 years later I needed a new Chromebook. You’re only supposed to be able to redeem the offer once, but I just called them up. They saw I am repeat Google customer (own 4 Nexus devices, multiple Chromebooks, Chromecast) and credited my account without issue.
I actually get Microsoft One Drive free through work but I still prefer Google.
Im thinking about buying the Meizu Pro 5, but several threads about people not receiving notifications in standby has made me uncertain.
Some have claimed that it can be solved by enabling autostart and “keep awake” for the app in the Security app. Some have claimed that this did not solve the problem.
How has it been for you balco, any issues?
Initially I had a lot of issues with notifications in Flyme but I followed the thread below and haven’t had any issues since. I did what the second response suggested and it worked for me.
OK, thanks balco!
What about display sharpness? Because the 1080p AMOLED screen on the Pro 5 and the MX5 use a diaomond pentile matrix (It has only half as many red subpixels). This is less sharp than a 1080p LCD screen. So the real ppi of the reds are less than 386 ppi on the Pro 5. Overall sharpness is therefore lower than an IPS LCD.
Is smaller text sharp enough for you? (I know that the MX5 is 5.5 inches and therefore a bit sharper than the Pro 5, but it shouldnt be that different)
What do you think about the battery life of the MX5? (SOT). The notification fix could potentially deminish battery life.
Sorry for all the questions, but ive read many of your opinions and they have been very helpful
This is one of the better 1080 displays I have used, the only screens I have used that are better are the 1080p (Sharp/JDI) displays Xiaomi uses. But you will no issues with sharpness. The display can have a pinkish/yellowish tint to it like most AMOLED’s do, but this is easily fixed by setting the color temperature to cool or neutral.
I haven’t done a SOT test in awhile (and there have been several updates since I last did one) and my phone right now is just off the charger but I average about 2 days with normal usage. And it takes about 50 minutes to go from 0-100% full.
same here, but i’d like at least 32GB.
NFC and fingerprint scanner are mandatory., especially if there price is really 2499 yuan
I have had such a bad experience with the M2 note that to be honest i will never go for one of their handsets again it was beyond bad. Thats why i like Xiaomi they deal with bugs on a regular basis
Xiaomi is one of the best but they are far from perfect. Ask any Mi4i owner in India. I have a few Indian friends who the Mi4i was their first Xiaomi and they will never go back to them after that experience. It happens with every company in this industry, one bad product can ruin your experience.
Its a shame because i loved the mx3 i dont know what happened with Meizu here
I don’t know but they have been excellent with MX5 updates.
Yup, MX5 might be good but they aren’t updating phones like the M1, M1 Note, MX4 Pro etc real shame
That’s one of the headaches of some of these companies, they do great with one phone and ignore the rest. It’s not just Chinese phones either Samsung, LG, Sony they all do it.
4 years ago, it was very hard to slide for answering incoming calls on f*cking Chinese phones. Today, M1 Note acts like 4 years old Chinese phone after 4.5.7 update. Touch sensitivity is really sucks. Shame is that!
4 years ago it was very to slide for answering incoming calls on most phones. Android was in it infancy (Gingerbread) and touch screen/digitizer technology wasn’t close to what it is today (in phones). Smartphones themselves were still trying to figure things out. My first smartphone was actually in 2011, it was the Galaxy Nexus, which had its own share of problems.
Because believ it not i was reading that China is not overly familiar with the Star Wars story. So guessing they wouldnt make much money off it i am guessing that will change with the new film.
Either a big tablet or a laptop, since this is big. I expect this to be for the mini mx phone and for a big MX tablet.
