Yu promised that the Yutopia would be the ‘world’s most powerful phone’ once it launched. Whether or not it is that is up to you to decide, but what is news is that the phone has finally launched.
The Yutopia has specifications similar to the OnePlus 2, with one major exception, that being the higher-res 2560 x 1440p screen. We’ll delve into the specs sheet in a bit, let’s talk about some other things about the device first.
The Yutopia is the first truly high-end phone from Yu, which happens to be a Micromax subsidiary. Yu have gone all guns blazing this time around, after their first few phones managed quite a bit of popularity in the Indian market.
Gizchina News of the week
Coming back to the phone’s selling point, i.e., it’s spec sheet; it has a 5.2-inch Sharp TP OGS display with a 2560 x 1440p resolution besides the Snapdragon 810 processor and 4GB RAM. There’s 32GB on-board storage on the Yutopia which can be expanded by another 128GB via microSD, which should be seen as a necessary addition in the demanding Indian phone market.
A 21 mega-pixel (Sony IMX230) rear camera is paired with an 8 mega-pixel camera on the phone to top off the impressive spec sheet. The Yutopia also happens to be the first Yu phone to have a fingerprint scanner (which is on the rear of the phone).
Cyanogen OS 12.1 will handle the phone’s software, while a 3000mAh battery will power everything inside.
The Yutopia will be an online-only phone, selling via Amazon.in for 24,999 INR/$375. Pre-bookings will start Thursday, while the phone will go on sale 26th December.
pls help, where to buy outside of Amazon. in?
Nowhere else, sorry
changed ur pic, eh 😀 ?
indeed.
after sometime you will be able to get from amazon.com unlocked version
any word on whether that is a dual-sim phone?
It is. Dual sim slots, both capable of 4G LTE.
SD810+2k screen+3000mah battery=2h SOT ;D
+ Dual SIM = 1.5hrs
Nice phone, I hope this phone ramps up the competition in India, especially against Xiaomi and other Chinese smartphone manufacturers.
Ahh, this looks good… I’m liking the Spec + CyanogenOS 🙂
that one HELL of a CHEAP PHONE for its specs !
WHY CANT WE HAVE NICE THINGS LIKE THESE OVER ON MY SIDE?!
any indian who lambasts this phone , esp from pricing pov , would be REALLY ungrateful considering all the diversity and flexibility available to them in specs AND prices !
Lambasting it for the choice of SoC in December 2015 and calling in itself the most powerful phone especially after we saw a glimpse of the SD820 on LeTV phone (or was it fake?).
Anyways, from the spec-to-price ratio, it is probably better than 1+ 2 – cyanogen on Yu and expandable memory are the reasons IMHO.
hahaha , i think Yu is starting to act a little bit like Qmobile does here :p
but save the overstatement , i bet there arent any cheaper 2k phones with a cpu like sd 810 (barring its over heating antics)
its basically a complete package , 64 bit 8-core cpu , 4 gb ram (generous) , a BRILLIANT camera IMX 230 (if im not mistaken? and i see a dual tone flash too i guess) , SD card slot , fingerprint scanner , 2k screen from a very reputed OEM like sharp , even the screen size is so neutral at 5.2 inches ! im not so sure about the battery , but a review will put that to rest. otherwise , it would be nit-picking to find defects in this.
that said , being the eternal critic i am , the only thing it is missing is laser autofocus , which should have been no problem adding to a phone like this for YU , considering the final retail on this.
Comes with OIS, fingerprint scanner and not to forget the barometer …. All this and powered by cyanogen. But I will wait till Jan 5. LeTV launching some products that day. Would be interesting to see what they do. Btw, did u hear of Qiku Q Terra. Nice phone … But 6″. Google for it.
yep … 3 phones released by Qiku , its a partnership b/w Qihoo (chinese digital security firm , something) and Coolpad. heard of the trio’s release a few months back … been out for quite sometime now.
altho im a sucker for that dual cam,
the pricing has put me off as its way over my budget…
Midrange SoC and ugly design make it way overpriced.
SD810 is not even worth 20$ anymore.
wasnt 810 a flagship grade CPU of 2015 ?!
Maybe if it would have worked as it was supposed to.but it doesn’t. At this point even a SD650 is a better choice in a phone.
Here for example, the second half of the page http://www.anandtech.com/show/9820/the-google-nexus-6p-review/4
Here vs SD820 but SD810 does worse in practice due to overheating so the difference is even bigger http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/compare/4547717?baseline=4562724
hmm … so we could be seeing some good phones in the mid-range with the new 650 series cpus?
any idea of their price ranges ?
also , if im not wrong ,CES is in first week of 2016 , so we expect solid info on these newbies by then ?
Here the yet to be announced TCL http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/compare/4557852?baseline=4562724
Well, if SD820 would be 50-60$, Helio X20 would have to be about 40$ (less if we get lucky)and hopefully SD652 30-35$ and 650 about 25$ but that’s just an assumption. Remains to be seen how each vendor thinks about it and how aggressive they are with pricing.
Personally i am more excited about the X20, especially in a few months from now when the price could drop a bit. Just 2 big cores clocked high should be enough while providing nice perf. A relatively small GPU that is enough perf but also doesn’t overheat (like the ones in SD810 or Exynos 7420) helps with a reasonable price too. The X20 also supports only DDR3 and it should be enough bandwidth while allowing for the device maker to save a few extra $ vs DDR4.
In any case, we should see lots of new phones with these A72 based SoCs , offering nice to great perf and ok prices.
hmm … guess we can expect a VARIETY of phones with the CPUs to pop up in the coming quarter then …
will a fun to watch 🙂
thanks for the detailed info !
Yeah.
Spreadtrum is also going with 16ff+ in Q2 next year for an 8 cores SoC and Huawei has the Kirin 950 that can in theory be used in sanely priced devices. And ofc Mediatek should have the X30 (likely name) in Q2 or so to compete with SD820 and at the very least that might make the X20 cheaper.
So next year should be nice for consumers.
regardless that in a couple of days i’ll be receiving a gione elife e8 via blu pure xl, this YU phone is a real deal.(if real at all) starting by CM12 there you go for optimizing the thing maybe keeps that Oven SoC under control and then everything else for 375 ??? that’s a great deal in my books. hope they will take that to the USA market if i ever need to do away with the XL…
i do not like the color portayed, maybe gime me all piano black on soft gold all around rims.
pretty boresome design , but you know what , i like the kind of bezelless display and lumia 1020 style camera
I’ll wait for snapdragon 650/652, 820 and mediatek x20 devices but not going for this for the given price. And does it have NFC and/or wireless charging, guess not.
Forgot to mention, last day saw a review at anandtech on nexus 6p, Android devices are really getting beaten by Apple on storage I/O and graphics performances, whats wrong?
iPhone is lower res,and handles I/O differently
All guns blazing with a 3000mAh battery…. lel…
and battery drainer 2k screen.
