Do NOT put your Redmi Note 3 in child mode for now, here’s why

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 3 is quite a killer piece of kit for the money, but then the software it runs, MIUI can be a little tricky… especially when a new iteration is in its early phase.

In the case of the Redmi Note 3, there’s quite a serious bug that exists.

TL;DR: Do not put your Redmi Note 3 in Child Mode for now.

The bug means that once you enter Child Mode in the Redmi Note 3, you’ll be stuck right there… and in case you’ve blocked the settings app as well, it’s going to be really tough for you to exit Child Mode and get access to the rest of the phone.

FYI, Child Mode blocks all apps except the ones you explicitly allow to run.

I found myself in the tricky situation last night, when I thought one way out would be to simply enter recovery by turning off the phone and then holding Vol Up + Power. But voila, there’s no access to recovery on the Redmi Note 3 by default.

I then had to tinker around with the phone for quite a while before somehow managing to enter the settings app and turning off Child Mode.

Redmi Note 3: Stuck in Child Mode, How To Fix

If you haven’t changed your default browser (I had changed it to Chrome, unfortunately), there’s a rather simple solution. Check out the video below:

Basically what you need to do when you’re stuck in Child Mode is somehow get access to the settings app. I managed to do so by getting into contacts, yellow pages, settings… it might (and will) differ from case to case.

This sounds like one of my experiences with an early miui on elephone p7000. It has different battery saver modes as miui does, and I clicked into marathon mode. And the screen disappeared! Lowest level of brightness turned screen off lol. Took ages but got it back.

what surprised me the most is that there’s no access to recovery by default.
Is that real or it”s because the reseller messed up flashing a rom?

      Like Chris said, the Redmi Note 3 requires boatloader unlocking before you can access the recovery. Not cool, in my opinion.

  Yea something doesn’t seem right there. I have used a lot of Xiaomi’s and never have not been able to access recovery when needed. Unless they changed something with MIUI 7.

    It comes with an locked bootloader too.
    Gone are the days when you could just flash any ROM on an Xiaomi phone.
    I don’t know if this has anything to do with the fingerprint sensor and security reasons or this is going to be the new move over at Xiaomi.

But there’s always a recovery stock on Xiaomi phones, and sucks, every time I flash a rom put cwm recovery on it so I can do more than “update a zip”

The problem is even if you go to Settings the Child mode on RedMi would still ask you for a password which it won’t accept.. What worked for me Restore Factor settings..
Settings > Additional Settings > Backup & reset > Factory data reset > Reset Phone.
Please Note: All your Data might get erased but it would resolved the child mode issue.

its simple,call from another phone but dnt pick the call, there is that option of texting back if you can’t take the call, choose that option of write message back, from there you can now access messages, write google store link ( https://store.google.com)from the other phone .open store download ‘settings shortcut” open there you save your ass. child mode off!!
