With LeTV officially launching their Snapdragon 820 phone, it comes as no surprise that Xiaomi have been making noises about the Xiaomi Mi5 and when we can expect to see it.
Co founder of Xiaomi (Li Wanquang) took to Weibo today with a short, sweet and very exciting post today. Though the Xiaomi boss didn’t go in to full details he has confirmed that the Xiaomi Mi5 will be available after the Chinese New Year (February) and that it will ship with Qualcomm’s latest processor.
Along with confirming that the Snapdragon 820 will be inside the Xiaomi Mi5, Xiaomi have also confirmed that the phone is already in mass production and that they aim to make enough product to meet the expected high demand.
Gizchina News of the week
Xiaomi Mi5 specifications
With a launch only a month or so away we already have a ton of leaks and purported details for the latest flagship Xiaomi.
From all the information around the web, the Xiaomi Mi5 looks set to appear wth a 5.2-inch display, 4GB RAM (at least), 32-64GB memory, 16 mega-pixel rear camera, fingerprint scanner, and large 3600mAh battery.
We also expect the Xiaomi Mi5 will use some sort of side gesture control just as the Xiaomi Mi4C has and that the body will be alloy.
Is there anything you hope to see inside the 2016 flagship Xiaomi?
“For high performance devices, we are fundamentally against an SD card slot.” “It is a trend: SD cards will disappear,” Barra added. “You should basically not expect SD card slots in any of our flagships.” – Hugo Barra, May 2015.
I wouldn’t expect it but you never know. Xiaomi has been making a huge push towards the cloud, with millions invested in it.
Hugo goes into a tangent about problems with SD cards but I don’t buy most of it. I think it’s because of how much they invest in the cloud. SD Card is a competitor
Yes, and they can charge exponentially more if they produce a model with more storage options like 32/64/128 GB, than what a simple SD card would cost.
They charge that much for phones with SD cards. The inclusion/exclusion has very little to do with the overall cost of the phone.
Google were dead against it too but I think it might change. Cyanogenmod didn’t buy into the SD card argument. Apparently it slows things down as well as other complications.
SD card readers take about 3-4 times the space of a same capacity memory cell directly connected to the board
Therefore SD card readers dont match the current trend of having high screen to rest-of-device ratios with unibody designs
Same goes for removable batteries
i see …
so in a nutshell, REMOVING SD card slots AND removable batteries as options ALLOWS for Bezeless phones ?!
Well “bezeless” is a term I personally would never use (because technically you cannot have no bezels on a cuboid) but atleast it allows for “modern” or “futuristic” looking smartphones, yes
I said a few months ago it would launch in either February or June based on typical Xiaomi release schedules. The specs are going to be pretty much flagship level standards so my one request is a small one: a color other than white at launch. I am so sick of white phones from Xiaomi with a 6 month wait for the black version.
Yeah, I agree. I have a White Mi4 since launch and after a few months I got sick of the colour and ordered full black housing off Ebay (the screen and frame) and replaced it all myself. I can honestly say the Mi4 looks so much sleeker in black =)
Or gold, given many unibody phones are releasing with gold these days. Anyways, here is the exact screen housing replacement that I ordered for myself: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/291566431413?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Yea gold is another new trend. I want to some colored variation like Sony did with the Z5.
Double tap, double speakers and SD slot!

what’s so terrible about SD cards that they are ditching it altogether ?
