Xiaomi teases metal body Xiaomi Redmi 3 on Weibo

After already getting an unofficial unveiling by TENAA, the metal bodied Xiaomi Redmi 3 has now officially been teased by Xiaomi themselves.

Xiaomi are giving up their plastic habit for 2016 with another all metal phone following on from the Redmi Note 3. The new device (likely to be the 3rd generation Xiaomi Redmi 3) was posted in this teaser image by Xiaomi on Weibo earlier today.

The teaser shows a phone with a similar profile to the all alloy Redmi Note 3 but a new patterned design (not seen in the TENAA least). The other differences are a new camera and flash location and the lack of a fingerprint scanner.

The text mentions a 5-inch display and the 12th of January as the date we can expect to learn more (officially). If you can’t wait for the specs then we have them for you below:

Xiaomi Redmi 3 Specifications

These specifications come from the TENAA listing of the phone. Up front is a 5-inch HD 1280 x 720 display, and 5 mega-pixel camera. The rear camera is a 13 mega-pixel model. Processing comes from an unnamed 1.5Ghz octacore chipset, with 2GB RAM, plus there is 16GB memory and micro SD support.

The Xiaomi Redmi 3 will weigh 143g and the dimensions are 139.3 x 69.6 x 8.5mm. All we are waiting on is the battery size and if there will be a 3GB RAM version available too.

Not feeling this new metal style xiaomi are adopting for their redmi phones, looks like some super ugly budget meizu clone. The Mi4C Plastic style looks better on cheaper phones imo.

  Just bought the Redmi Note 3 for a family member, and I have to disagree with you. The phone does not look or feel cheap… quite the opposite in fact. It’s really something you have to see in person… pictures don’t really do it justice.

Xiaomi is a great company when it comes to software and price/perf. ratio, but IMO their phone designs are years behind.

  The problem with metal phones is there is really only so much you can do, pretty much every metal phone released has the same base look. But I agree Xiaomi has become very vanilla with their designs, the last phone they had which really stood out IMO was the Mi3.

    Yeah it was so ugly and cheap looking, it was unique.
    In my opinion their last good looking phone was the Xiaomi Mi4 black version.

      The Mi3 was a beautiful phone, there was nothing cheap looking about it. The Mi4 was very generic looking, I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it either.

They teased in gold too and 4000mAh.
It’s ok but not exciting. If they had quad core and 1080p it would have been maybe the ideal way to go. P10 instead of the likely SD616 would have been a lot better too ofc, better perf and lower power.
We’ll have to see the price,maybe it’s cheaper than expected but highly unlikely they’ll get the kind of dominance Redmi 1 and 1s achieved.

    Depends on price for the Note 2,if they go at 3000CNY or more…..
    BTW the Le Max Pro seems that it will be at 3500CNY.

  SD616 is clocked at 1,7GHz and Redmi 3 is said to be clocked at 1,5GHz… Most obvious choice here is MT6753

  Yeah it was so ugly and cheap looking, it was unique.

  Dont see the need of a 1080p screen on a Budget 5 incher and why they should have gone with a quadcore in starting 2016 is beyond me…

  Most SD615/616 are at 1.5GHz because it overheats at 1.7GHz.
  Sure it could be SD617 but not much of a difference,
  The real surprise would be if it’s Leadcore.
