Xiaomi have pulled a fast one on us all and actually officially announced full specifications and pricing for the Xiaomi Redmi 3 a day earlier than first thought with sales starting tomorrow.
The dates on the Xiaomi Redmi 3 teasers said the 12th, but the actual official announcement for the new budget Xiaomi took place today (the 11th) in a surprise move which marks a new strategy for Xiaomi on how they handle new phone releases.
This time around the rear of the all metal, 5-incher was officially shown off last week and specs of the phone had been slowly trickling out on Xiaomi’s social media outlets with full hardware parameters finally becoming official earlier today.
Xiaomi Redmi 3 Specifications
If you had been keeping up to date with all the leaks so far then the Xiaomi Redmi 3 announcement today isn’t going to hold many surprises and only confirms our earlier guesses and reports.
The 3rd generation Redmi is the first all metal version and features a new lattice design on the back made up of 4166 stars etched together to give a diamond arrangement effect. The new metal body measures only 8.5mm thick, and will come in gold, silver or grey.
As we saw in the Redmi Note 3, the Xiaomi 3 gets a new large battery in this case a huge 4100mAh unit with 5V/2A fast charging extending talk time by as much as 80%. Optimizations to MIUI 7 mean that the user can get as much as 25% more usage from the Redmi 3 on a single charge compared to the Redmi 2.
Gizchina News of the week
The metal bodied phone can still support dual SIM cards with all networks in Chinese networks supported, but unlike the Redmi 2, only a single SIM card can be used if an SD card is desired. With only 16GB available internally we are sure many customers will opt for running a SD card (up to 128GBs supported).
As our reports from yesterday suggested, the Xiaomi Redmi 3 has a 13 mega-pixel camera with PDAF fast autofocus (like the Redmi Note 2 and 3) with F2.0 aperture. This is a huge update over previous Redmi rear cameras. The front camera is a 5 mega-pixel F2.2 camera.
Other specifications include a 5-inch 1280 x 720 display, 2GB RAM, and an Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor. The use of a Qualcomm chip rather than Mediatek leads us to believe the Redmi 3 will also launch in India and other official Xiaomi launch territories later in the year.
Last but not least is the pricing. Once again the Redmi range see’s no price increase despite the huge hardware and build changes! Customers in China will be able to buy the Xiaomi Redmi 3 for 699 Yuan ($106) from the 12th January!
So those are the official Xiaomi Redmi 3 specifications and pricing details. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
I’m excited. I just masturbated to this and came.
I thought the original headline referred to the Note 3 but I guess it was corrected. Good that SD card support is back.
Is it true that presale redmi 3 are shipped on march ? (According to what appears there)
When the redmi note 2 was just released, the shipping date in geekbuying was also about 2 months. They actually got it sooner and started shipping it out to the first buyers.
I’m guessing that they don’t know the exact date when they’ll receive the stock from xiaomi, so they’re guessing it and adding few more weeks, so that people won’t start complaining “BUT YOU SAID IT WOULD BE SHIPPED IN A WEEK!!!!11!!ONE!1!!!!1”
slap in the face from Xiaomi to those who have said that they raise their prices, and to those saying they are immoral thieves for not putting a sd card slot (btw… who’s left using this technology still?).
no, i wasn’t referring to you.
unless you want a slap too. 😉
what do you think about this phone?
nope … no slaps :O !
but SD card , i still use em. Am i a heretic ?
its a good phone but lacks fingerprint security (which im a sucker for , btw). camera should be pretty good , as it comes with the reputation. but i think i’ll wait for an overall evaluation from the GC team , esp on power based performance , considering it has a qualcomm cpu in it
And large amount of porn
He said “me” for using SD cards. You asked: “who’s left using this technology still?” 🙂
My bad, I guess I haven’t been clear.
What I meant was that really few companies provide SD card slots and they are getting fewer every year.
It’s getting obvious that this technology is going to disappear soon (at least on smartphones).
Rite now, if only 16 GB internal memory, we still need sd card. No need sd card if at least 32 GB.
Slapped by who? Lol
Only Apple, Samsung, Huawei did better then them and they all sell worldwide while Xiaomi only in a couple of countries.
True that they missed the projections but back in time they couldn’t imagine about the ban in India or the debacle of Qualcomm (Every major brand missed their goal due to this issue).
2 of Xiaomi phones (Mi Note and redmi 2) are in the top 10 of the most sold phones in 2015 (where iphones are included)
I find hard to understand what you’re taking about here.
They could have deal with Mediatek ban in India and Snapdragon 810 issues. Those were not the reasons behind their huge miscalculation.
Even Lei Jun himself recently admitted that they did mistakes past year.
So what’s in your opinion the reason behind the miscalculation?
Curious to know your opinion.
Setting a big goal is a common procedure among big companies and most of the times it gets missed.
It’s a way to get the extra effort from all the departments.
That said, missing a projection is not an index to determine if the company is doing bad or well.
Besides Apple, all the companies missed their projections, even Samsung.
From the other hand,Revenue, market share, growth are parameters to keep an eye on it and numbers say that Xiaomi grew in 2015, gained market share and increased their revenue while most of other manufacturers (Samsung included) saw an inflession.
I think only Huawei did as good as Xiaomi.
For example Meizu accomplished a phenomenal growth past year similar to what Xiaomi did at 2014.
Simply Xiaomi underestimated other brands in China and getting overconfident. Also IMO messed up in international markets and further expansion.
Beating by Huawei is quite understandable on global scale hence Xiaomi only is regional at best, but they have to think about why they lost China to Huawei.
I assume big chunk of that 27M caused by underperformance at Chinese market.
What’s got 2000 yuan flagship customers past year? Nothing. What about 1000 yuan phablet customers? Nothing until Resmi Note 2. People who were waiting for a Redmi 1/1s successor got a mere update of 1s.
There was a long list of mistakes IMO, but I’m on the phone.
You were thinking Mi4c gonna be replaced Mi4i.
Look at recently launched Redmi Note Prime in India.
Huawei and Xiaomi are head to head in China right now.
Some analysts says Xiaomi then Huawei others says the opposite.
Let’s say they both are at ~ 17% of market share each.
The market is saturated, you won’t see any big fluctuation from now on.
Someone might gain a 0.5% someone might lose it, but don’t expect anything bigger than that.
When you hear a CEO saying how much he’s going to sell next year you can be sure he’s addressing it to the competition and not to consumer.
It’s part of marketing strategy.
I didn’t believe him either, and if you find the article here on Gizchina you can see in the comments that I said it was not realistic.
He probably knew it too, there are many reasons to do so, but still it doesn’t mean that the company didn’t do good.
They did good, and without the ban in India they could have done better.
One question for you.
How do you know for sure that they didn’t have a different strategy at the beginning and then they had to change it due to the ban?
Maybe they were trying to make a redmi2 with Mediatek, or a Redmi Note , or again a MI4i with Mediatek and then the ban came and they had to fix it.
We don’t know the whole story, we don’t know what led them to take the decisions they took, maybe they were the only available options… Unless you have secret sources.
In my opinion the ban affected them a lot, and so the SD615 SD810.
Every single company who relied on SD810 lost market share.
Call it a coincidence
There is an easy solution. Pay Ericsson like everbody else.
The 615 wasn’t that bad at other phones. The SD808 is fine.
Look, Mi 4c is still China exclusive. How they can hope to got great sale figures with that massively outdated Redmi Note Prime?
Let’s assume there is an unknown reason that somehow they are unwilling to deal with Ericsson. Instead to releasing Note Prime they always could slap a SD610 (quad core variant of SD615) and optionally HD screen to Redmi Note 2/3. It still would be much better than that Note Prime and would be cheaper than Chinese variants.
I don’t know where you get all these elements to get to conclusions.
Before I share my opinion I assume I don’t know the whole story to judge.
Starting from that, I don’t know the requests from Ericsson and the deal behind it, but I guess you have all the details to say that the easiest solution is to pay them.
I would like to know all the deal behind it, it’s not public, that’s why I’m asking you.
Why is Mi4c only an exclusive in China? Do you know the reason of that too? Or you’re simply assuming that this company has run by a bunch of idiots?
Are you excluding any logistic issue? How they can keep up with the demand? As far as I know they run flash sale and they are sold out within seconds, what do you know about how to keep on demand in a such huge market like India?
Of course, thinking that the company is run by a couple of toddlers is much easier.
SD610? Do they still produce it?
Do you have this info as well?
And you also know that it will sell well in China?
Again, I have no elements to judge, but I can say that you’re simplifying way too much
All of those smartphone manufacturers running by very smart and highly educated people, but most of those companies does repeatedly foolish mistakes.
Look at Microsoft, HTC, Blackberry, Sony and so on. All of those are sinking ships in smartphone market. I’m pretty much sure non of them running by idiots. They just can’t face reality, most of them trying same thing over and over, but expecting different results.
Go visit Qualcomm’s site and seethat they are listing SD610, instead to asking me. Actual manufacturing done by TSMC not Qualcomm itself. So at demand they will.
Qualcomm does protect its customers with its own patents. Mediatek doesn’t because they don’t have same patents.
Did you really think for example Meizu has patents to protect itself from Ericsson’s wrath? Did you really think among the all those brands which are selling Mediatek devices in India, only Xiaomi hasn’t that particular patents?
“According to Ericsson, the company had tried contacting Xiaomi several times in the past but were ignored.”
Ericsson’s main revenue comes from patent rights. That’s public knowledge. They are after getting paid. Not preventing some companies.
I said you that at least a couple of times as I remember, Mi 4c will be China only. C stand for China, i stand for international. Chinese sources wrote this before Mi 4c’s initial release. You thought otherwise. After months still no Mi 4c for international markets.
16 GB internal memory without external option, not enough rite now. Games, photo, music, full just a moment
Just say that SD card still needed… And better if dedicated, not optional with second SIM.
I’m aware that this feature is very demanded, what I’m saying is that many manufacturers are moving away from that and choosing the cloud for storage.
With no reliable internet, cloud is crap… Better with basic feature, external memory.
With no reliable internet the whole smartphone is crap.
Anyway, I’m not trying to argue which is better, I was trying to explain you that this is a decision of phone makers, not mine.
I would prefer a SD card too, but it looks like fewer and fewer smartphone come with it, so I try to get phones with bigger storage.
With SD card you can download content for offline use. Don’t forget that usually in rural areas across the world usually there is no 4G or even stable 3G signal. of course you can use external USB flash if phone supports OTG but that is not very convenient. Actually does this one support OTG I wonder?
