Meet the bezel-less Ulefone Future in this hands on video

Ulefone show us the Helio P1o powered bezel-less Ulefone Future in a hands on video.

With the Ulefone Power already shipping (review phone on the way), Ulefone has now turned its attention to a new device that will sit at the top of the Ulefone range for 2016. This jewel in the crown is called the Ufefone Future, and regular readers of GizChina may recognise it from leaks earlier in the week.

The above video shows a working prototype of the new Ulefone Future giving us a glimpse at it’s bezel-less design. Keen eye’d viewers will notice a very thin black border at the very edges of the curved display, we believe this is the chassis of the phone extended slightly to protect the screen in case of an accidental drop.

Gizchina News of the week

We also see in the video that the Ulefone Future will use on screen navigation buttons, but we don’t see what the rear will look like. However sources tell us it will be an all alloy rear.

Ulefone Future Specifications

Ulefone have confirmed the Future will sport a Mediatek MT6755 2.0Ghz chipset (aka the Helio P10), 4GB RAM, 32GB memory and will come with either Android 6.0 or CyanogenMOD. A 20 mega-pixel Sony IMX230 has also been mentioned, although at this time remains unconfirmed.

It is just a panel connected to external hardware – obviously they are having some problems in terms of assembly.

Considering that, I wouldn’t expect it to come soon and hardware may be outdated when it finally comes to the market(I am looking to you, Vowney).

FINALLY! Enough of these horrible looking bezels like on the Elephone P8000, and even Ulefone’s own Power phone is plagued with these! This needs to be the next trend!!
In the last year or two, bezels have gone backwards, even in the 5inch form factor. For example the Bluboo Xtouch has much bigger bezels than my old iOcean X7 which is 4 years old or so.

Price and availability are what matters now.

    January 13, 2016

This should be interesting if they offer it in many colors (including some very loud ones like fluorescent yellow/green , orange and purple) and they get the tone right. Maybe an option for a translucent back cover too.
Or maybe i am going too far just because that black is too boring and white wouldn’t look good.
Not sure about the 4GB RAM with a P10, once X20 and SD65x show up it might be hard to offload a P10 with 4GB. Granted the specs could change, they clearly don’t have the final device just yet since the PCB is outside the phone in this video.

Anyone can built a great prototype to get investement and the final product to be crap.
Showing just a screen with a morherboard attached to it must mean Ulephone are really desparate!

  18. January 13, 2016

I guess people can’t see the back in the video because it’s just a panel covered with 2.5D glass attached to a PCB (?). Let’s wait until we see the final product before getting too excited.

    Note the MT6755 limit is 1 x 21MP or 16/5MP combo.

    • Roberto Tomás
      January 13, 2016

why do you say that? This article seems to think that is wrong: http://www.apothetech.com/elephone-p9000-p9000-edge-p9000-lite-reviewed/

sited are three variants of the P9000 (all three with the Mediatek P10 MTK6755):

      P9000 Lite – 13MP/5MP
      P9000 – 13/8
P9000 Edge – 21MP/8MP (in the video the presenter notes both cameras specifically in this phone)

      • balcobomber25
        January 13, 2016

The 21 or 16/8 is just for the rear camera, it can support a single 21mp sensor or a dual sensor setup using 16mp and 8mp. That just means that is the max the processor can handle.

        • Roberto Tomás
          January 14, 2016

I appreciate your attempt to clarify what he wrote, and correcting the earlier claim of 16/5, but I understood it the first time. 🙂

I want to know why he said that, because specs from phones with the P10 seems to contradict the claim. Is there an official mediatek data sheet out yet?

            • Roberto Tomás
              January 15, 2016

thank you! there it is: 21MP single camera/16MP + 8MP dual camera with the world’s first TrueBright ISP engine for greater sensor light capture, enhanced color resolution, and less than 200ms shot-to-shot delay.

that suggests that the Elephone P9000 Edge will have a better processor than the Helio P10 in it

            • balcobomber25
              January 15, 2016

Why will it have a better processor? The P10 is the latest midrange SoC from Mediatek. I think you are very confused about something.

            • Roberto Tomás
              January 16, 2016

I suggest you go back and look at my initial post you are responding to. Your confusion comes from not having read that.

I was saying that in the article I provided the url to, they claim that the P9000 Edge will have a 21MP front camera, 8MP rear camera, and a Nubia Z9-like edge-to-edge display. They include a video of an Elephone representive making each of these claims with the phone in hand — although he doesn’t sound like he is doing more than repeating memorized facts rather like a sale rep.

The x3 lite has the 13/5 combo, by the way 🙂

        • Roberto Tomás
          January 14, 2016

thanks matt —I got cofused looking this stuff up .. apparently the “Lemon 3” is also called “Vibe X3 lite” in english, and its proper name in chinese is just the Vibe X3. so when I looked up Vibe X3, I managed to find a 808-based listing that didn’t have the processor but did talk about the cameras. the “Lemon 3” is just a name they people are putting on the phone.

apparently the actual names for the variants are:

          乐懞X3 全网通版 or 双4G版 — Vibe X3 or Vibe X3 “international” / Vibe X3 4G
          乐懞X3 青春版 — “Vibe X3 Lite” / “Lemon 3”

          • MattD
            January 14, 2016

            Yeah, it’s quite confusing 😀

    • MattD
      January 13, 2016

It’s not like the soc it’s a grandma, saying “here son, that’s 21mpx, you can spend them in front and rear cameras… Choose wisely where you’re going to put them!” lol

The 16/5 combo is about an actual double sensor on one side… You can have a 21mpx rear and 16/5mpx on the front at the same time with that soc, since you’re not going to use both at the same time!

      • E8hffff
        January 13, 2016

It’s about what the SoC can handle. System on a Chip is about not having other driver chips.

        • realjjj
          January 14, 2016

The limitation is 21MP at 24FPS, that’s a matter of how fast they can handle each frame. Doesn’t mean much and it’s more than enough for the SoC.
