Belived to already be in mass production and heading for launch on the 5th February, the Xiaomi Mi5 could go on sale during the Chinese New Year on the 22nd Feb.
It has been quite normal in the past for Xiaomi to announce their flagship phone then wait a few weeks before they actually put it on sale, and the Mi5 seems to be no different. Although many insiders believe the Mi5 will be launched on the 5th Feb, it won’t be until the 22nd that customers in China will be able to purchase the flagship phone.
Xiaomi Mi5 launch date
Apparently Xiaomi have chosen Feb 22nd at 14:22 to begin online sales (so all the 2’s) which is slap bang in the middle of the Chinese holidays.
Gizchina News of the week
For international buyers this is going to be a problem. As resellers have to buy stock of Xiaomi phones either online via Xiaomi’s website, or through scalpers and all companies will be on vacation during the sales. We probably won’t see availability until mid March.
Xiaomi Mi5 Pricing
So what about the price? Xiaomi’s flagships generally launch for 1999 Yuan, but this year we could see a price hike on the Xioami Mi5. With the phone boasting a Snapdragon 820, 2K display and 4GB RAM, Chinese media are speculating the Mi5 could cost nearer 2499 Yuan.
While a 500 yuan increase is quite substantial it would still make the Xiaomi Mi5 the most affordable Snapdragon 820 phone on the market. The Le Max Pro with Snapdragon 820 for example will be 3500 Yuan.
With a long wait ahead and a possible higher price tag, are you likely to buy the Xioami Mi5 once it launches?
I very much doubt the Mi5 will have expandable storage… They want you to pay more for the higher storage option… My problem with this is the higher storage option tends to be cr@p
Xiaomi and Letv recently seem to think 32gb is adequate for some strange and bizarre reason…
you pay $30 for an extra gig of ram and 16gb of quality nand. it isn’t like a rip off.
eh?
I said nothing about anything being a rip off, I’m simply saying that I don’t mind not having a memory card slot as long as there is a 64gb+ option of NAND…
It is kind of amazing that everything in this industry has evolved except storage options. We still have phones coming out with 16GB base storage. NAND storage really isn’t that expensive, especially for what they charge for an upgrade, the minimum for phones these days should be 64gb. I once read that it costs Samsung an extra $13 to use 64gb instead of 32gb, but they charge the consumer an extra $87 for that same switch.
That’s typical Samsung , Apple, Huawei, Oppo and those big brands who think they are premium brands.
Problem is those “premium” brands have a LOT OF DIEHARD FANBOYS that keep buying with their darn expensive price.
Those fanboys still think people will see and show respect when they show off with their “expensive” gadgets” LOL.
Oppo has normally just one storage option and an SD card
The Find 5, Find 7 and N1 all had multiple storage options.
I have the find 7 and i’m pretty sure there is only one storage size available
There is the Find 7 (32GB) and the Find 7A (16GB).
But they are different phone the Find 7a just has one storage and the Find 7 just have one storage option.
Same series of phone though.
Thats a strech but you have a point, but when I bought the find 7a I was in no way interested on the find 7, for me the SD801 couldnt handle the 2k screen. So I think the storage was never the point.
All depends on the individual user and their needs.
It’s not just those brands, smaller brands charge a premium for more storage space as well.
The real thing Xiaomi wants you to use is the Mi Cloud, which they have invested millions in.
