Top Chinese phones to look out for at MWC 2016 (so far)

mwc 2016

The tech calendar is full of shows, but the first big one for Chinese brands (at least the smaller ones) is MWC in Barcelona. Here are some of the top phones to look out for.

MWC 2016 will offer mid size Chinese phone makers a place to show off their latest devices for 2016, and with more brands focusing on Europe this year than ever there are more Chinese brands then ever in attendance.

With just over a month to go Chinese phone makers are already letting slip what they have in store for MWC 2016. Here are the top Chinese phones to look out for at MWC 2016 so far:

Blackview

blackview MWC

We know of 2 phones that Blackview will be launching at MWC 2016 so far, but in total the company plan to show around 6 phones at the Expo. The phones we already know are the Blackview Ultra Plus, Omega Pro, BV5000,and BV2000.

blackview MWC

New models at MWC from Blackview will be the Blackview R7, a Helio P10 phone with Android 6 and 4GB RAM, and the mystery Blackview BV6000 which we assume will have a 6000mAh+ battery.

Doogee

Doogee were at MWC last year, but for 2016 they will use the show to launch their new top of the range Doogee F7. The Doogee F7 will boast a 10 core Mediatek Helio X20 processor, and 2K display.

doogee titan t7

Doogee will also officially launch the Doogee Titan T7 with clamshell design and 5.2-inch display, and there is rumour of a 3rd device which still remains a mystery.

Zopo

zopo zpeed 8 helio x20

Zopo will be launching the Zopo Speed 8 phone at the MWC Expo. Zopo have been slowly leaking official details of the Zopo Speed 8 and have already confirmed that it will come with a fingerprint scanner, Helio X20 chipset and metal body. We also expect to see around 4GB RAM and a 21 mega-pixel camera on the Speed 8.

Bluboo

bluboo xtouch plus

Bluboo say they hope to have 3 devices at MWC including their Bluboo Xwatch and the Bluboo Picasso, but its the Bluboo Xtouch Plus which we are most excited to see.

The Xtouch Plus has a metal body similar to the ZUK Z1 and will come with a wooden panel option for the rear. Images of the Xtouch show a rear fingerprint scanner, USB Type C and notification switch.

Bluboo Xwatch android smartwatch

The Plus sized phone will sport a 6-inch 2K panel, 4GB RAM, 64GB memory and 5000mAh battery. We haven’t been told which processor the phone will have but we are guessing a Helio P10 will be inside.

Ulefone

ulefone future helio p10

Ulefone have shown images and a video of the borderless Ulefone Future already. The Ulefone Future gets a 2.0Ghz Medatek Helio P10 chipset, 20 mega-pixel Sony IMX230 rear camera, 4GB RAM and options for either Cyanogen or Android 6.0.

That’s not the only phone that Ulfone will launch at MWC 2016 though. We discovered today that the Ulefone Sharp will also launch, but at this stage we know nothing about the phone.

Other brands to watch at MWC 2016

We are still waiting to hear from Oukitel, Homtom, Siswoo, and others not to mention the big brands like ZTE, Lenovo, Huawei and whatever tablet makers make an appearance.

We’ll be at MWC from day one so keep an eye on GizChina for the latest Chinese tech news from Barcelona.

I am interested to see Siswoo and Mlais the most, they were two of the most exciting up and coming brands last year. They started the year off strong and then faded down the stretch. Will be also interesting to see if brands like THL, iNew or iOcean still exist.

true … i long for the diversity that could be seen earlier !

With the release of the P10 we should see a lot more of that diversity like we did with the release of the 6752. When the 6752 disappeared so too did a lot of the smaller brands, coincidence?

iNew definitely still exist, several new phones and stores opening in Malaysia, just no one wants to promote them. V3 and V3+ were a big thing, direct replacement L3 met no real interest.

Iocean doesnt exist officially. Not that I understand why anyone would buy a phone from them.

Don’t forget to bring us some news about the chipmakers.
Rockchip has the RK3399 dual A72 at 2GHz plus quad A53 with Mali T860MP4 , likely aimed at TV boxes and Chromebooks.

Spreadtrum should have an 8 cores SoC on 14/16ff this year, maybe they disclose some info on it if they are at MWC.
And ofc there are a few others that could announce new products.

octacore from Spreadtrum , which is used in strictly budget phones … sooo , any chance of spreadtrum teaming up with someone for world’s cheapest decent specced phone ?

Heard Allwinner were making some strides for a $5 chip for tablets…

It wouldn’t be a low end chip, would be their first attempt to escape the low end. Haven’t seen anything about what it would be but it has to be either A72 based or as a surprise an Atom core but that’s unlikely. The rumors for this are Q2 production. They were planning an 8 cores on 16ff for late 2015 and then something with Intel later this year on Intel’s 14nm. Obviously the plans got a bit delayed/changed.
Spreadtrum is owned by Tsinghua Unigroup and they’ll keep trying to take on Qualcomm and Mediatek as Tsinghua does have financial resources.
Do hope that they disclose some details soon.
