The 8-inch tablet will normally retail at $129.92 but on the 25th Jan shoppers can get a a 25% discount dropping the cost to just $96.90 (visiting the buy page before the 25th will show the regular retail price) what’s more, anyone who already has a valid Aliexpress coupon should be able to use it with the lower intro price.
Gizchina News of the week
The Chuwi Hi 8 Pro is one of the newer Intel Cherry Trail tablets running a Z8300 14nm chipset with 2GB RAM and 32GB internal memory (64GB memory cards are supported). Chuwi have also given the Hi 8 Pro a faster USB Type C port, and have stated that the Windows 10 device will get an Android dual boot option in the future.
Key Chuwi Hi8 Pro highlights include:
- 14nm Process Intel X5 Series CPU (Cherry Trail Z8300)
- 8 Inch 283 PPI 1920*1200 Screen Resolution
- Windows 10
- Type-C Slot, Faster Transmission of Data
- 2GB RAM + 32GB ROM (Extended Up to 64GB)
- HDMI HD Output + WiDi Wireless + Bluetooth 4.0
- 4000mAh Battery + 2MP Front Camera, 2MP Back Camera
If an 8-inch tablet is a little on the small side for you then Chuwi also have the Hi12 tablet with large 12-inch display and optional stylus support.
Pity about the cameras. Tablet makers rarely put any importance on cams. 2MP is like ‘why’ even add them. You’d be lucky to even get a barcode read from a 2MP. Least it could have 13MP/8MP config even with a little extra on the price.
At 100$ with the latest Intel chip and a FHD IPS Screen, I don`t really get that we want a better camera thing.
So you’ve relegated the tablet to a child’s toy or a specific basic use.
Most would want an all round device.
Currently this device wouldn’t act in scanning QR code or barcodes. It would be bad at Google Hangouts or other conferencing. It would be a nightmare to use on trains or transport without wifi supplied. It would struggle with commercial Windows games.
The two sore points are the cams and 3G/4G. It probably doesn’t have GPS neither for mapping.
I agree the screen is good, but if they added the little extras it would be an attractive purchase even at $120-150.
There seems to be a device between mobile phones and tablets.
Tablets are cheaper to make due to components not needing to be micro. The problem is tablets lack so much compared to smart phones.
