The Vivo Xplay 5S is a long time coming so we are all waiting for something really remarkable once the phone finally launches, so how does a SD820 and 6GB RAM sound?
So far there have been 2 Vivo Xplay models. The original Xplay is likely forgotten by many but was one of the first large screen phones and packed impressive hardware for the time. Next it was the Vivo Xplay 3S, which although launched in another time (yes, that’s how long it feels) still manages to keep up with current phones thanks to a 2K display.
The Xplay 5S has been MIA for too long now, but now that the Snapdragon 820 is in production it looks live Vivo are getting their houses in order and preparing to release another flagship monster.
Today Antutu benchmarks from a phone with the model number (PD1516A
) believed to be the Vivo Xplay 5S were published listing the phone as a 5.5-inch devices with 2K display, Snapdragon 820 chipset and 4GB RAM.
Gizchina News of the week
Despite the benchmarks Jan Jiutang, a regarded industry analyst in China, posted on Weibo that the Xplay 5S would ship with 6GB RAM.
The most obvious possibility here is that there are two versions of the Xplay 5S the 4GB RAM model being the “entry-level” version and a 6GB model for the real hardcore users, but what would we use 6GB RAM for?
Whatever Vivo have in store it sounds like we won’t find out until April when the phone is expected to be announced. It’s believe that the Oppo Find 9 and latest Nubia Z11 phones will make an appearance at around the same time.
Sounds ORGASMIC. Since I will buy a non-MediaTek flagship this year, this seems like a crazy good phone buy for the following reasons.
1. SnapDragon 820, not a MediaTek SoC. Makes me happy!
2. GPS will be the best in class
3. GPU will be extraordinarily good
4. 6 GB Ram – even better multitasking, I guess I can keep most apps running all the time without background switching……..
5. WQHD display – perfect balance between 1080p and the overkill 4k
6. Vivo’s build, fit and finish have always been very good (esp. their flagships)
7. 64 GB Rom, so even if this is without SD, space concerns can be put aside….
8. Amazing cameras in the past, and these will be no exception!
I’ll just wait for the AnTuTu v5 (or equivalent v6) scores – AnTuTu v5 above 85,000 and I’ll be one of the first few to order this online, irrespective of launch price. SD 820 and 6GB Ram, Solid Cams and smell of MediaTek – Expect for the prospect expensive price, what’s not to love?
Crap for most vivo owners ouside China ( it is called Funtouch OS). And no dev support for Cyanogen or other rom close to stock Android. I know what I’m saying because I’ve owned a Vivo XShot in the past. Super spec phone as Nolan said above but crappy rom.
Well I have to disagree with you somewhat. My wife has the Xshot and whilst the ROM does have some Chinese stuff that we don’t understand, it actually runs very smoothly and almost 2 years since launch still gets regular updates! (how many phones are still getting that 2 years on)? I’ve also used a couple of phones running Cyanogen and have to say it’s the biggest pile of crap ever, absolutely detest it and would never touch a phone that runs it ever again. Ultimately it’s down to the individual when it comes to software and everyone has their own preferance.
Seems we think alike more and more now, I can’t stand Cyanogen.
Still getting updates very good. Is it on Marshmallow yet ?
Now you’re having a laugh, it’s still on 4. 4 kit kat!
I thought you said it get updates in the paragraph above ?
Yes Xshot and Xplay 3s chinese roms still get updates once in a while however they are based on Funtouch 2.0 KitKat 4.4.2.
Its a nice ROM though, with good controls not found in standard KitKat. Newer phones from Vivo like X6 are based on Lollipop so expect the new Xplay 5s on par.
I also have to disagree with you. I have owned an Xshot and a Xplay 3s. Vivo has one of the better ROM’s on Android.
Currently I use Smart Launcher on my MX5 but on the Xshot I used stock.
Any particular reason for that choice ?
(Reason I ask is because i’ve never used a launcher, but seems many people do)
Not really, every once in a while I like to try out new launchers. My favorites are Nova and Yahoo Aviate. Still not sure if I like Smart or not. For a beginner Nova, GO or Apex is your best bet. They are among the most popular and have thousands of themes.
Fair enough….from what I gather Nova is the most popular, heard very good things about Action Launcher & Home UX Beta also.
Do you use the International or Chinese (with English) version of the ROM Balco? I currently have the Chinese on mine and struggle with some of the options. Also a lot of the folders created are in Chinese, so its harder to navigate the phone’s files.
Thanks Balco. That’s interesting because reading previously about it, some guys were saying the Chinese ROM was better for the camera and music. I will give the International ROM a try. Cheers again.
I don’t use the default camera app, I use Open Camera and it is excellent. And I don’t think I’ve ever touched the music app, I use Google Play Music.
I had to use the International ROM though, my cell network didn’t work with the Chinese.
hope their battery is good … or at least the software handles things well to ensure the phone lasts a day before it needs a charge
Why does it have to be non mediatek?
For the same reasons that in many humans, the left testicle hangs lower than the right.
Best comment I’ve read in a long time. 😀
If this was a 7+ inch tablet maybe, but as a 5.5 inch phone Android is a much better experience.
I believe he means “”why not just aim it at the computer market while you are at it? “” ????
Oh, come on, we all know that nobody is going to give us 6gb of ram for at least the next 2 years! Don’t push such fake rumors, someone may get confused and actually believe it! 😀
scroll 2 comments down, there is someone who believes that 6GB is coming on this device… 😉
Yeah, i saw it before i commented, that’s why i wrote that gizchina may confuse someone by pushing that kind of rumors 😀
There’s always someone taking rumors for true, and i learned ages ago that if they want to believe something, there is nothing in the world one can do to change their minds… So i won’t even bother anymore (unless i have nothing else to play with lol)
the thing about believing a rumor or not believing, is both sides are the same and are doing the same thing(that is speculating), both people will have to wait for the actual thing to confirm their beliefs, its like -10 and 10 on the number line same value just different sides
the same can be said against you:
there’s always someone not taking rumors for true, and i learned ages ago that if they dont want to believe something, there is nothing in the world one can do to change their minds.. so i wont even bother anymore
rumors can be actualized and they may not only two possibilites pick a side 🙂
really, so when you dont believe in a rumour, are you saying you know for a FACT the rumour is false before the phone even comes out?
“i believe t-rex are still alive. Prove me somehow this is not true.”
This conversation is this kind of stupid. If something is 99.999(…)999% unlikely to happen, you can’t go and say “but there is still that 0.000(…)0001% of chances that’ll happen!” like it’s really something!
nah nah dont call for insane similes, the context here is within PHONES with renders and leaks, all im saying is when there is a rumour for a phone whether you believing it to be true are not, we the consumer uses SPECULATION as the base and not facts to determine whether or not the rumor is true or not
im not saying this device will habe 6gb ram but vivo is known to raise the bar for specs from ever since
They are expensive but they are worth the price.
