Xiaomi took the opportunity to automatically update the systems of Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 phones in China last night, causing users to wake up to face WIFI issues.
We’re reported before that some customers running phone with the Mediatek Helio X10 chipset have been reporting WIFI issues, and the problem doesn’t seem to be going away.
Gizchina News of the week
The latest update which rolled out for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 in China last night has left Chinese users flooding the MIUI forums with complaints for patchy and even failing WIFI.
We suggest that if you are asked to update your Redmi Note 3 you wait until another update or fix comes along which solves WIFI issues.
A bit odd that a major problem like this surfaces out of the blue with a soc that’s out for over a year now. Or there’s something wrong with the software, or a faulty batch of socs rolled from the MT production line. Might be worth the trouble investigating that line.
By the way: my own Note 3 has no problem whatsoever.
Problem lays in Xiaomi’s politics of using components from different suppliers in different examples of the same model.
One of them is fine, while the other will fail.
That’s not just Xiaomi, most large phone companies do this. They have to some components are in shorter supply than others.
The Helio X10 soc comes from one supplier, Mediatek. So that can’t be the issue here.
thats my say as well, as it was ok until the “UPDATE” wich has been the similar issue among other with same wifi-related problem.
I SAY SOFTWARE CODERS ARE TO BLAME HAHAHAHA
I think he was referring to how they sometimes use multiple camera sensors in the same mode (Samsung and Sony). But that is something even Samsung does, supply and demand.
Miui *ucks upp something other with every new update.
They have some issues wich they are not fixing even after long complaints of users, updating irrelevant stuff (calendar fixes, contact list and similar things with wich no other producers have any problems, except Xiaomi) every 7 days, and not fixing real bugs.
Some updates fix small issues like the stuff you mentioned, others fix major issues. I would rather have the weekly updates than none at all like on Samsung, which has a broken mess in Touchwhiz.
Another problem is, it’s not just smal updates (like the ones Samsung DOES do) it is WHOLE OS. 500-700MB, and you must flash phone every 2 weeks.
That was Samsung of the old. Their new software is much more reliable. Having used the galaxy 6 for a few weeks I can it’s much more streamlined.
It is way behind even redmi 1s, which has onli 2/3 of Mi4i ‘s battery capacity, and still can achieve better battery life.
I’m so glad I got rid of this phone.
Xiaomi never again.
He would be happy with a phone that breaks after a few months and has horrible support? We must have a different definition of the word “happy”.
He was trying to be sarcastic
My crusade against all things Elephone doesn’t recognize sarcasm.
YEAH I HAVE TAKEN ACCOUNT ON THAT!! HAHAHAHAHA
Did you ever had one???
Don’t you see how happy a man in the picture is? 😀
I didn’t see the picture at first. It didn’t show up on my phone.
Me too, I got a LeTV x600 instead and I’m more than happy with it.
I can’t get rid of Mi4i, no one wants that peace of cr*p…. And now after all troubles with MIUI, overheating and bad battery life, i got yellow stein on screen (7 months old phone) and of course, Xioami don’t give international guarantee to it’s EU and USA buyers… So, now i can just wait for Sammy to come out with S7, and buy it on 1 year contract with my operator (wich will cost me less than this so called “flagship” off contact)
Qualcomm for the win!
But no, seriously… Pay the money and you get the quality, I love the specs and price ratio of Mediatek SOCs but they always seem to have some sort of problem…
MT6592, GPS Issues.
MT6752, Battery usage issues.
Helio X10, Wifi issues.
Anyone care to add to this list?
I’ll add to the list: Snapdragon 615 terribly weak, 820 overheat and throttling, 210 and 410 are worthless and overpriced. Could go on.
SD801 was Great though! 😀 And the 800 was good too, 805 was alright, 808 is good…
My only experience with an 801 is the Note Pro which was terribly laggy but I imagine that was a combo of touchwiz and trying to power 1600p screen with the GPU it has.
It was probably software related. The older Samsung touchwiz was a mess.
Sources about the SD820?
I haven’t read anything pointing to those issues. Or you meant the SD810?
There was some reports I don’t know if I really believe them or if it’s just hype from the 810’s problems:
I will add a few:
Snapdragon 410 – terrible performance
Snapdragon 615 – throttling
Snapdragon 810 – overheating, throttling, battery drain
What was that about Qualcomm for the win? 😉
Note: I am not a fanboy of any SoC company. But to say one is better quality is pure BS, they all have issues. Really if you want quality get a Exnyos.
I just can’t stand SoC fanboy wars. I try to put out the flames whenever I read them.
Hey Balco, fair enough, but I’m certainly not a SoC fanboy… If it works, I’ll buy it that’s the way I work.
The only thing I am admittedly a fanboy about is the whole iOS vs Android thing, can’t stand that Apple logo and what it stands for personally but that’s the only time I’ll get passionate about sh1t…
The only reason for my outburst here is that my little brother is saving hard currently for a Redmi Note 3 and I told him it’d be a good phone for the money, but if it’s now turning out to not have that ‘famous’ Xiaomi quality about it and experiencing silly issues then I’ve now got to tell him to either save a little harder for the SD650 variant or maybe go for the LeTv/Lenovo rival products…
The problem with this whole Redmi issue, is the inconsistencies. For every comment I read about it, I read two more saying it doesn’t exist. I know people who have a Redmi Note 3 and have no issues whatsoever. Which makes me think it is tied to a specific ROM, the developer ROM. Which most people won’t be using to begin with.
As for iOS, I don’t like how locked down it is but I can admit Apple has tremendous job on optimizing it.
agree on everything. then again if
the people at samsung only were to dealt with the galaxy S line
the people at S O N Y only were to dealt with the xperia Z line
the people at HTC only decided to dealt with the G line
bla bla bla
you got the point
SOFTWARE OPTIMIZATIONHAS TO BE GREAT WHEN YOU ONLY HAVE 1 DEVICE TO DEAL WITH…
IF YOU GUYS THINK DIFFERENT FEEL FREE TO REPLY
True but Xiaomi has more than just the Redmi line and they continue to support older products. The newest update that was released today will work on 15 Xiaomi devices.
thats what makes them an affable and lovable brand , i guess..
I get what you mean but I mean that if they were to Fully optimize one device for their tweaked version of Android then the results would be different.
don’t get me wrong it must be nice to get constant updates.
BUT I would rather have a device that’s great out of the box because the took time to optimize it for the OS they would use for it from the beginning and that’s where the comparison with the fruit-named company relied.
2016 “”is not just Updates but SUCCESSFUL software integration+optimization that will mark the difference””
tell him to save harder AND wait for MWC . no ?
now now … i just put the fires out.
i KNEW u were joking , read my previous response above 🙂
my wife had the SD615 in her Alcatel Idol 3 that she destroyed. Now I gave her a ZTE Zmax 2 with the SD410 ($80 phone) and I’m amazed that it is way snappier than the Idol 3 was. I seriously have a hard time believing that its running the SD410, it zips along just as fast as my SD800 LG G2.
The Idol 3 5.5″ is amazing phone. Their is much that can be done about swappiness on kernel side.
Try to compare a Moto G performance to both S615 & MT6752 – MT6753 then make bold claims.
http://media.bestofmicro.com/P/W/555620/original/honor-5x-chart-2.png
I still claim MT6732 whole the best SoC among them all last year but MTK fucked up providing no support for it.
I don’t compare based on benchmarks, i compare based on actual usage. Which 6732 phone did you use?
Ouu pore honey but PC Mark is designed to measure a more a like real usage scenarios, all do its not perfect. It’s either that or no comparison at all!
Benchmarks will never give the same result as actual usage no matter how they are designed.
That true but this one is at least designed to measure a real usage task arias. The MT6732 software stuck whole bad from the start but still it’s best designed one of them all (for real usage).
Now don’t tell me you had all of those phones listed there more than 6 months so you actually know real usage performance & cetera.
Nope but I have used a phone with a 6732, 6752, 615 and 410 and out of all those the 6752 was the best in overall performance followed by 6732, 615 and 410.
I WILL SAY OPTIMIZATION, software optimization that is. makes great strives
I actually like the 615+ (the 650, 652 now) .. the 650 is performance wise remarkably like the Helio P10 but with twice the GPU power. The 615 is probably a bit weaker than that.
Anyway, I responded because if you look at the price of the Moto G 3rd gen, it compares better to a Helio P10-based phone than it does to a MT6753 based phone.
That kinda makes it a coin toss. Want the absolute cheapest? Take the MT6753 — these can be found for under $80 now. Want better gaming perf, and don’t mind spending $100 more? Snapdragon 615. Want better multitasking instead, at the cost of gaming? For only about $50 more than the MT6753, there are Helio P10 solutions. Want a no compromises mid ranger? Wait for a snpadragon 650 to come to your market.
It whosent about pricing.
There are & sub 100$ phones with S410 you know. What you get from Motorola anyhow is long term software suport (2+ years) & two years warranty & that is worth something.
Actuality their is no 80$ MT6753 phone’s, you will hardly even find a decent enough MT6735 one for that price (witch actually is almost comparable to the MT67523 ones [MT6735 @ 1.3 GHz]).
wait ? 615+ is the 650 ?!?!
ohh, no sir. the… I think they were the 618 and the 620. I was saying “from the level of the 615 up” in that bracket.
yes , exactly.
650 = rebranded 618
652 = rebranded 620
thanks for clearing that price bit up
its a damn shame we dont see the 6732 in sub $100 phones now … it would be a true GIANT KILLA !
weird decision by MTK to scupper support for this baby , which would have won them pretty much a SIZEABLE chunk of low end market !
It looks like that they don’t want to win.
New announced trio is worse than MT6732 – MT6752.
exactly …. WHO ON EARTH WOULDNT WANNA WIN!
an imbecile maybe ?
but being pro-MTK , i’ll always hold that tiny bit of anticipation , appreciation , expectation and exhilaration for ANY of their upcoming CPUs !
so , i’ll politely disagree here and urge everyone to wait on real-life usage for the upcoming Chips.
Well Muhammad I ment on this trio & believe me it will be worse in GPU part.

exactly , its v.hard to understand why on earth would they desert a better SoC for a weaker one !
i think the x12 is a fake … sad reality but i guess these things come and go in the market !
im VERY disappointed at the fact that not ONE of these use the A72 cores but i’ll wait for reviews and real time performance first.
over to the GPU … dont u think that the T860 will make a difference ?
I don’t think X12 is a fake & I do think it will have a good adaption in lower mid range.
A72 cores are a lot bigger (3x in size compared to A53) so don’t expect to see them in lower end SoC’s anytime soon.
The Mali T8xx series will bring up to 16~18% more performance compared to T7xx series. They will bring & up to 40% performance upgrade as ARM claimed but only when hardware testilation unit is used & that won’t happen any time soon. How ever thanks to incised cluster size thanks to added testilation block they are pricier to produce. Think that Mali T860 MP2 at 550MHz would be pretty much a good choice for HD displays & along with quad core A53 @1.5 GHz CPU’s integrated on chip cellular radio would bring a very decent balanced user experience. This would be a worthy successor of MT6732 & would consume a little less power (as MT6732 didn’t had on chip integrated radio).
I am certain everyone hire would agree that this would be a stellar choice for 100$ phones & that everyone of us would like one like that.
damn it … no A72 cores in budget phones .. 🙁
i do like the rest of your idea … and i really do hope to see something in the mould , esp considering the fact that i’ve been hunting for a cheap phone myself 😀
Yes I know… & for a very long time now.
Someone posted a link to a interesting cheap one around hire couple of days ago.

Probably rare camera is 8 MP interpolated one & battery is certainly not that capacity but it’s a big one probably 2600~2800 mAha one.
Not bad for 80$.
But don’t buy it until you read at least one decent review of it that you can trust.
Exynos phones are too expensive 🙁 , at least for me.
but honestly, i think its not MTK this time. MIUI maybe ?
also … i think Adam was just jesting :p
You won’t get quality but at least you have Artheus open stuck WiFi driver’s.
I WOULD SAY AGAIN SEVERAL TIMES
“”IF IT AIN’T BROKE DON’T FIX IT””
then again, it’s not the WIFI to blame, blame lazy coders that forget to go back and double check their stuff before sending it out. they were, ((and i mean they as in most of the devices and brands refering to this issue)) working ok before the MESS happened.
there must be a sentence thats needs to be altered in some of these new updates to comply with the SoCs standars and they are not putting the string on the finger to remember it.
i don’t think its an MTK issue this time. more like something fishy….
dont you see … its not the x10. its the gaddamn miui coders who prolly got something wrong with the network code.
if anything , we should thanks the MTK for allowing us access to cheaper phones !
else , Vivos would cost $1k + and the redmi series would start from $600+ !
