For last minute shoppers Chinese New Year shoppers in China, Meizu have cut the price of the MX5 once again.

Gizchina News of the week

Originally priced at 1699 Yuan at launch, and already reduced once in China already, the new pricing for the MX5 brings the cost of the 16GB model down to only 1399 Yuan ($212). This is only fractionally more than the Meizu Metal and brings pricing in line with the Xiaomi Mi4c.

The Meizu MX5 is a Mediatek Helio X10 powered flagship phone from Meizu running a 5.5-inch FHD display in an all alloy body with 21 mega-pixel Sony rear camera! Quite the bargain at this price!

Flagship with 16GB memory? It’s a flagship, so don’t expect SD card slot. Do they know it’s 2016 already? Cheaper option should be starting from 32GB already.

you are in the US, do you get 4G? do you use a custom launcher or anything? did you have to remove much in the way of chinese apps? I love the hardware, just not sure about the software. I’ve read in many threads that you really like the phone.

          – No LTE, it doesn’t have the required bands. I use it on Tmobile and get pretty good 3G speeds, but I also live in the city.
          – Currently I use the stock launcher. But I have used Nova, Smart, Action, Apex and Aviate with this phone and they all worked without issues. Just for clarification, I tire of the same look easily and always change up my launcher every few months (one of the reasons I love Android).
          – The only apps on the phone are the stock Meizu apps, there was no 3rd party bloatware on mine. A few of the Meizu apps I actually love including their browser (incredibly fast), toolbox and security center.
          – The only thing I had to do was flash the international ROM.

I had no feeling either way for Meizu before this. I was/am a longtime Xiaomi fan. I have been pleasantly surprised by the MX5. The most important aspect for me is the camera and the one on this phone is very good.

Flagship with 16GB memory? It presents quite ridiculously with 4GB of RAM and only 16GB internal memory. It’s a flagship, so don’t expect SD card slot. Do they know it’s 2016 already?

If Mi4c wasn’t using Type-C, it would be a perfect match for me now.

i like the look of the Meizu MX5 and love the camera.

but alas, I’ll probably wait until the SD650/652 phones are out. it appears that they will tromp the X10. Though I do wish someone would come out with a camera as good as the MX5 with the SD650

16GB is just not enough with no Micro SD slot.

There’s a rumour Elephone are dropping the price of the Vowney to $239 and $219 for the Lite, around the 18th of February. The problem is they are struggling to supply any phone stock so the price would only be a measure to bring the into line with market.

Problem is they tried to offer top specs for a small price that they couldn’t actually do. The Vowney was never about actually selling the device, it was a PR stunt to get the Elephone name out to the masses.

Possibly. They are slowly shipping it out but too late and lacking frontline expectations. They really needed to refurbish it with captive touch button and USB3/type-C plug.

That`s still miles better than Elephone Vowney which still retails for more, which is simply absurd.
