He actually never says whether he thinks MIUI is great or not. He just says “You get a powerful processor (Helio X10 vs MT6753), and all the bells and whistles of a Xiaomi device, including MIUI.”

Personally I would take MIUI over stock Android any day, but it’s really all personal opinion.

We must use a different MIUI. The one I use which comes from Xiaomi suffers from none of the above.

I don’t need to look on forums I have a Mi3 sitting right here, works perfectly.

They all think it works like windows, but it doesn’t. They don’t know that apps are suspended etc.There was a nice article in C’t Magazin some time ago.

MIUI uses 500mb RAM over AOSP, this much is true

I don’t know about messenger, but I get notifications from both Gmail and WhatsApp.

Are you sure you’re running their official Rom and not the one made by the reseller?

Also check the Sync app is enabled.

If the problem persists then I would try to reinstall those apps.

Again, I have had no such problems with MI4 and now with Note3.

Battery draining affects every Rom, look at the forum of every vendor and you’ll see it’s a problem that affects mostly everybody.

I’ve not noticed the microphone issue, it might be related to a specific phone. What phone are you using now?

And again, make sure you’re using their official Rom, if so, you might want to switch to their “developer” one.

Anyway, I’m not trying to convince anyone that MIUI is better.

I find it superior to any other Rom, included the most praised CM.

I’ve had no issue so far.

The only problem I had was the camera focus on MI4 which was fixed within 1 month and meanwhile I used Lenovo SuperCamera.

Another bug is that I can’t clear their default App Store but it’s not really big deal.

I also have OPO with CM which gave me real problems like:

– Quality call: I can’t understand any word due to a bad static noise and it seems that disabling Google Now the quality improves.

So to use my phone to make call I had to get rid of Google Now (which I use it a lot)

– Video Playback: upgrading to Lollipop I can’t watch any embedded video to any web page (included Facebook) I tried to install MXplayer and the codec but still no luck.

Now, those are issues that killed my experience with CM. And that’s why I think MIUI is superior.

But I understand that other people had a different experience and they like other roms. Fair enough

What are you using I get my notifications?

I wasn’t aware of the microphone issue. I use Skype in landscape mode but I haven’t noticed that problem. I guess I’ll try to reproduce it.

I’ve just found out that you replied to me through a Gmail notification which wasn’t even locked.

I use to lock WhatsApp though, just make sure.

The lock seems a needed workaround for other roms like Lenovo, Nubia, or Letv.

To answer to your question:

Should a user go through all this?

Obviously not, Xiaomi phones are meant for China and only few other markets, they don’t come with Gapps, you are supposed to get the apps through their Appstore…

I kept their Rom, I installed Gapps and I locked WhatsApp to make sure I get the notification.

The harassment worth the money I spent for the phone.

If for you doesn’t worth then you should consider other manufacturers, there are lots of them, Chinese and non Chinese with their pros and cons as well.

Don’t expect any of them running bug free, and I’m including Samsung and Apple in the list too

But people are never happy.

If MIUI stays on KK because the benefits that Lollipop brings can’t compensate the new issues then people will say that it’s an outdated Rom.

If they bring new updates with new issues to solve then they feel like beta testers.

People are never happy, they want everything for less.

No bugs, open source, unlocked bootloader, SD card, band 20, USA bands, removable battery, new design, A72 arm cores, no bezels, no borders, new Sony sensors, OIS, 8GB Ram, 256 GB Rom and of course…1999 yuan is overpriced.

1499 sounds better.

And among all the vendors they demand Xiaomi to make such phone. Hehe

Depends on what you do on your phone. For someone who only does the basics 2GB is enough even with a UI like MIUI. If you are a power user you shouldn’t even be looking at 2GB phones.

Yeah I saw that, and to make himself more reliable he always says that there are other companies that will bring “a lot” more for cheaper.

I didn’t even commented on that, I’m still waiting to know any these companies while I asked him almost 2 years ago.

Mi4i is one of the worst phones i have ever owned. Lagging in all menus, so delayed sometimes it takes 3 seconds to type a single letter in the keyboard. Overheating like I have never known on any phone, tax the phone even slightly and it heats up to sh*t. It was bought on the official Mi Store in singapore and running the official official rom never altered. Ram hogging again massive on this phone. One of the worst and most inaccurate unresponsive implementations of multi touch gestures in both the gallery and browser I have ever used. Compared directly to my nexus 5 it is embarrassing. Your standards must be laughably low for you to rate MIUI above AOSP. AOSP is so much smoother and so much less resource heavy even on my nexus 5 than MIUI on both my minote and mi4i. MIUI’s settings menu is an absolute convoluted mess, horribly overloaded with menus. Most of the terrible features xiaomi attempts to implement like sunlight display, side tap to go back, shrink screen with swipe over buttons on larger display are horribly implemented. There is micro lag on my mi note too and again multi touch poorly implemented. Mipad software is also basically beta, laggy and horrible, some visual glitches, menus looking horrible etc too. Next to an ipad or a nexus 9 it is a complete joke. Bought one for my mum. MIUI is hugely resource heavy, hugely overloaded with useless features and is basically what touchwiz was a couple of years ago. Oh yeah and I also own xiaomi’s first ever phone the M1 which I bought in 2011, I was there from day one, buying and using xiaomi products. I have seen the steady decline of MIUI first hand. You are simply delusional have not done direct comparisons of MIUI with AOSP phones or were not familiar with MIUI v4 or V5 to know how far down hill this rom has gone.
