Wearables come and go, but seldom do we see something as practical, affordable and no-nonsense as the Xiaomi Mi Band.
Xiaomi even gave the Mi Band a bit of an upgrade, but the buzz it created probably fell short of what Xiaomi would’ve wanted. And rightly so, it was something very incremental… and the market has moved on in a huge way since the original Mi Band.
A lot of Chinese companies are trying their hand at making wearables. However, the one we’re going to discuss today comes from an Indian manufacturer, Intex.
Gizchina News of the week
The new Intex FitRist is a very affordable wearable at 999 INR ($14.5). It’ll do all the Mi Band does for you — minus heart rate monitoring — but with the addition of a major feature, an OLED display.
With that, comes a shorter battery life. While the Mi Band goes for weeks (mine usually go for months, for I don’t use the vibrate feature too much) the Intex FitRist is expected to deliver 12 days on an average.
While the spec set of this new gadget is far from groundbreaking, it is the pricing that should keep people interested. Available in Dark Blue and White, the Intex FitRist will sell exclusively through Snapdeal.
Well this would be nice if it had heart rate monitor. In the future I also hope to see GPS in these things ( I’ll accept them being bigger ).
I’m not sure why Xiaomi stubbornly refuses to make an OLED version of the Mi Band, it reminds me of the iPod shuffle situation but Xiaomi are not Apple even if they’d like to be.
I don’t know why Xiaomi hasn’t made a full blown Smart Watch yet that incorporates all the features of the Mi Band.
Exactly… I think they should have made at least one smartwatch, people would have bought it, I would have bought it.
I had to buy a GT88 watch which was decent at first but the battery failed of something so that it would last for less than 8h with nothing using power significantly.
I don’t really like Chinese no-names but since the big manufacturers failed to make anything cheap and decent ….
And while the MI band is OK I really want a screen.
I’m not a big watch person but if Xiaomi made one I would get it lol.
It’s kind of convenient to have one, not really for the watch itself but for notification, fitness tracker and sometimes, yes even talking on the watch.
You can’t really talk that well on your watch but with today’s big smartphone I sometimes find myself riding my bicycle and it’s difficult to get my phone out. Many also have a SIM so you can use that to just leave your phone at home.
For me I have never been a big fan of having something on my wrist. I don’t even like to wear any jewelry.
lol…same here but if Xiaomi made a smartwatch, i’d buy one in a heartbeat…
Me too, I am Xiaomi’s version of the iSheep Apple has and I openly admit it.
