Siswoo R2 Projector phone coming to MWC

It’s been a long time since we last heard from Siswoo, but it appears they have been developing another interesting new phone that should see an MWC launch.

Siswoo broke on to the mobile scene last year with a few phones, but the most notable being the R7 Darkmoon, a dual screen phone with rear E-ink display. Due to Siswoo reliance on working with carriers we haven’t seen much of the R7 or any other Siswoo phone for that matter, but with MWC around the corner will we see anything new from them?

The answer is a big fat YES! And we have the first images and details of the new device named the Siswoo R2.

Siswoo are keeping with the niche features for the R2 and have given the 5.5-inch phone a built-in projector. Specs will also include a Mediatek processor, 1920 x 1080 resolution and a 2.5D screen. Other details, in particular how large/resolution the projector display in, will be unveiled at the Siswoo stand at MWC.

I was in an electronics store the other week and they had a few pico projectors set up, including the Asus S1 and a couple cubicle ones. I’m not sure whether it was because of the bad setup or the ambient light from the store (or both), but I was not impressed: the colors were way washed out and your eyes start to get tired trying to interpret the poor picture after just a minute. If dedicated pico projectors cannot perform well, I don’t see how a projector built into a phone can do a better job. If anything, it makes for a good gimmick to impress your buddies.

  nah man dont make pico’s standard speak for all, with time technology with make its resolution good enough tiny phone camera can now shoot in 4k something only dedicated camera could have done, come on man

  You need a dark room,,that’s a given. Pico projectors are 20-40 lumens, the Asus S1 is 200, a 60W incandescent lightbulb is 800 lumens.

    Yeah, the light from the incandescents above were killing the picture quality. They should’ve set up the pico projectors in a pitch black room. Demoing the projectors like the way they did probably did more to turn potential customers away than anything else.

      The Sony MP-CL1 pico projector has a laser based module that can almost fit in a phone. Laser means no focus required and that’s an advantage in mobile projectors. It’s 33 lumens i think and we should see a smaller module that better fits in phones at some point soon
      This phone is likely to be using something that’s lower res and cheaper.
