As the media waits for the Xiaomi Mi 5 media preview to begin in Barcelona at the MWC, info from China reveals everything you need to know about the Mi 5.
As expected, there will be two versions of the Xiaomi Mi 5. However, what we didn’t see coming was an upgraded Mi 4 in the Mi 4s. The phone doesn’t quite challenge the Mi 5 with its specs, but makes for a nice budget device nonetheless.

Xiaomi Mi 5 Photos
The Xiaomi Mi 5 very much resembles the Mi Note. The only couple of things (most noticeable) seem to be that the Mi 5 has a home button (and thus, a fingerprint sensor) and a smaller display.
Take a look at some photos of the phone.
Gizchina News of the week
Xiaomi Mi 5 Camera Samples
The Mi 5 has a Sony IMX298 16 mega-pixel camera sensor assisted with PDAF. While we don’t have samples straight out of the phone yet, here are some that feature in Xiaomi’s slides for the China presentation. Notice the comparison with the iPhone…
Some sources report that there are 3 variants:
3/32 GB
3/64 GB
4/128 GB
Also IOS is included
I assume you mean OIS? I wonder if that’s true. Rarely get OIS on these “budget” smartphones.
Since when is Xiaomi a “budget” phone lol? The Mi5 is their flagship device. Did you mean OIS on phones that aren’t incredible overpriced like those from Samsung and LG?
He might have said “budget” because of the price. He even quoted “budget”
Hence the ” ” but yeah seems you’ve understood my point – only the overpriced phones seem to do OIS so I’m happy these value Chinese brands are starting to do the same. Used to really only be phones from like Samsung, LG, maybe Vivo and Oppo that had it?
When OIS was first introduced it was limited to mainstream brands but over the past year we have seen it in numerous phones around this price point.
Oh didn’t know that. What other phones around 1999RMB have OIS?
yes 3 version PRO 128 GB + CERAMIC BODY 2699 yuan.. 64GB 2299 yuan.. 32GB 1999 yuan
Lol I was boarding a flight didn’t get to see any of it. Just landed for my first layover.
I hate to do this to you but…
I TOLD YOU SO!!! with the pricing.
What are you talking about? I knew that they would have kept the same price.I meant other companies!
And in particular: Zuk.
Haha how tired are you today?
Shut up, I tossed and turned all night long worrying I was going to miss the alarm going off.
😀
Haha I was supposed to have “Free Wifi” on my flight this morning to my first layover. It made me miss dial up speeds, I think by the end of the 3 hour flight I was able to load the homepage for Wikipedia.
Lol.
I tried it once with Lufthansa and the speed wasn’t terrible, ping was almost 1 second though.
The good thing is they usually fly me business class. Usually the free wifi isn’t great but it’s usable. I can usually at least get on my email. This one was terribly slow.
It’s funny how habits (I know you’re going to tell me that yours is a necessity rather than an habit.
You crackhead! LOL) change over the years.
Few years ago I used to see people trying to get out the airport asap to light a cigarette.
Now they turn the phone when the aircraft has’nt landed yet.
Mine is a complete habit lol. I usually when I say I am going to do work on a flight, I end up on disqus talking about phones…
Hi Max, so what you gonna do? Keep NOTE 3 PRO or go for a MI5? What do you think about Xiaomi flagships?
Keep the Note3 for now.
I’ll wait for the new MI Note which I hope It’ll come with a bigger battery and bigger display.
Seems you are not really excited by the MI5 and MI4S. I do understand you, Note 3 Pro is really a killer phone for the money paid.
They are great phones for people looking for phones smaller than 5.5″, without even considering that there’s not much there within that size.
MI4S is really good looking phone, but SD808 in 2016 wtf??? Seriously, it is already priced at 300€ by resellers. Xiaomi should have at least used SD650. Prices are too close, MI5 basic version is priced at 350€. MI5 basic version is the best bet.
MI4C Prime, Redmi 3 and Note 3 Pro are still in my list.
The spec listed so far I am okay with. Dual sim.
Getting ready to discard my MI 3.
well, a mix of mi note and note 5.
i’m waiting for a device 5.5″+
