MWC 2016: Malata M1 Plus, another Meizu clone with Helio P10

Phone maker Malata had their new top of the range Malata M1 Plus at MWC, a phone with Meizu styling and Hello P10 chipset.

The Meizu design seems to be the default of smartphone makers wanting to build a flagship phone but lacking any sort of imagination.

Malata have made a few changed to their Meizu clone by adding a fingerprint scanner to the rear of the phone rather than in the a physical home button (the same can be seen on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and various models from UMI).

Malata haven’t for the usual trap of giving their phone low-end hardware though, as the specs listed are actually pretty nice.

The chipset is the Mediatek Helio P10, there is up to 3GB RAM, a 5.5-inch FHD display, 8 mega-pixel front camera, and 21 mega-pixel rear sensor with PDAF. The battery size of the phone wasn’t revealed but the rear of the phone does have pins to allow for ‘wireless’ charging.

It looks like Malata are going to try and sell this phone as an ODM device so expect to see the M1 Plus branded as various other phones over the coming year.

There is only so many ways a phone can be designed but this definitely isnt the way any phone should look…(ugly)

mx5 no band 7 FDD , no 60fps 1080p, limited ugly 720p@99fps slow motion….. language only english/chinese. I could be happier with meizu clone malata 😀

    ISOCELL+PDAF MAYBE THERE IS HOPE????, if pricing doesn´t kill it it´s a fair competitor for middles class more so if that camera is any good.

      ISOCELL and PDAF look good on paper but we need to see how it is in execution. If they are using a cheap lens and don’t optimize it those specs mean nothing.

i reall feel like all brands, chinese the better, should go the way of making 3 phones a year and keep their design studies and inventions behind the curtains…
they could focus more into software optimization and even they could use the same design and upgrade interior hardware and components.
that said,
big lasting battery is a must
great camera is a must
big storage space is a must
if performance can keep up to those 3 back there a phone would have to be really ugly not to SUCCEEDDDDD

  I wouldnt say all companies because the larger ones like Huawei and Lenovo couldn’t survive with just 3. But all of the smaller brands should do this. Another thing I would love to see them do is stop trying to make their own ROMs and either use stock or one of the established Android ROMs.

    I believe that’s what they do as for now, the classic “mediatek stock rom” wich 99% of smaller producers use is the standard one created by mediatek and its subsidiaries (yes, I refer to the one which has some JB-era apps on it and unoptimized camera app and api). Having an internal team able to better optimize that rom will be a plus for those companies in my opinion, and would really make the difference among those smaller brands.

    IMHO, even the big ones, big companies should aim to keep the group/work little brick phones lines and their flagships to everyone else.
    Look no more, apple market share is “”X”” size big and yearly is a one option device (maybe size changes , you get the point) but people will just follow the brands and trends.
    Down where I live people like to buy used or second hand Galaxy’s and I phones and even brand new but last year models. And they will be happy to have a last year device and not a half wited crap, with not even half the older device storage.

      Apple is the exception and should never be used as a comparison. Apple has a fan loyalty unlike any other company in this business. They will release very slightly modified updates and the iSheep will buy it up in millions. I give Apple a ton of credit from a marketing standpoint.

        The reasons you give are the same ones I use for that matter.
        But to be fair apple IPhone did not start with the amount of customers it has today, it had to grow on people just like any other GOOD product have to, and word of mouth kept it going
        Smaller companies with greatness aspirations should copy that business strategy ((balcoB should know it is a good one)) and cross fingers and promote updates.
        I still remember the Jiayu S3, great device but it eventually died on updates and a proper relief unit never came through even though fan base was willingly waiting for it… Case point.
