Oppo R9 Plus Antutu tells of dual 16 mega-pixel cameras

With Oppo’s rebranding to be known as the maker of ‘camera phones’ it is not surprising that the upcoming Oppo R9 will have a few photography tricks up its sleeve.

A recent leak from TENAA showed both the Oppo R9 and Oppo R9 Plus in all their narrow border glory, and a new Antutu screenshot has now confirmed that the Plus sized version will get front and rear 16 mega-pixel cameras.

It’s highly likely that the rear 16 mega-pixel sensor on the Oppo R9 Plus will feature the new super small Oppo OIS system which was demoed at MWC, and while we’re not sure what hardware features the front camera might have, we do believe that it will have auto focus available at the very least.

The Oppo R9 Plus A shown in the benchmarks is also confirmed to have a Snapdragon 652 chipset, 4GB RAM, 64GB internal memory and a 1920 x 1080 FHD display. Expect Super VOOC to be a feature on the new phone too.

Recent leaked photo claimed 2 hours of talktime with 5 min. charge. It’s the usual VOOC claim, so it seems no Super VOOC here.

So what they mean by “camera phone” is adding some megapixel on both cameras?
I’m highly unimpressed, especially thinking at their stellar price tags…

    Probably it won’t be bad, but I’d expect something more from a “camera phone”… You know, some sort of innovation or, at least, the top of the technology currently available (at this price point they hardly need to cut costs like, let’s say, xiaomi have to).
    Now, I know that not every phone from oppo have to be “camera-centric” just because of the slogan, but if that’s your marketing strategy, at least try and stay true to your own words!

      Who said they cut costs? They have some new OIS technology they are pitching and we still don’t know what sensor it is or what type of lens they are using. We really don’t know much about it either way.

        I am the one saying that, as an hypothesis: if they were to offer a phone at a price near the production cost, I’d be more soft with them, understanding they have to cut some extra here and there… But with that lucrative price, it seems they haven’t even managed to put a dual led flash?! It’s not like it’s absolutely critical for having a good camera, but with a price so high I’d expect them to put some extra here and there, otherwise I, as a costumer, would go for something cheaper which offer the same things, not something overpriced beyond limits “because I’m that company, so you have to pay way more just because”. I know that’s their usual policy, but it doesn’t mean I must be ok with that (that’s what lead most of us on the cheaper chinese tech anyway).
        That new OIS should be interesting, but nothing to justify their greed (and it could even be missing on that one, according to some speculation)

        We really don’t know what the flash is, we don’t know what type of focus it is using. The only thing this article tells us is it has dual 16mp sensors. Again there is now way to tell either way based on just on this information.
