Li Nan discusses Meizu Pro 6 with fan, no 2K display, no Exynos 8890

Meizu boss Li Nan has been chatting with a fan today about the Meizu Pro 6 leading to the confirmation that it will not have 2K display among other interesting details.

Meizu’s Li Nan took time to chat with fans today about the upcoming Meizu Pro 6 and in the process revealed some interesting details about the flagship phone.

First up Li Nan stated that the Meizu Pro 6 will not use a 2K display. Meizu fans will remember that the only time the company used a 2K display was in the Meizu MX4 Pro (which was dropped very early in its lifecycle). Li Nan said the reason for not using the higher res panel on their new phone is due to power consumption.

Also in the discussion the company boss stated that the Meizu Pro 6 will not have a Samsung Exynos 8890 as the chipset does not offer full network support. So we know that the Meizu Pro 6 will be designed to support all of China’s mobile carriers, but what chipset could it use? A Snapdragon 820 perhaps?

After those details what are we left with? Well so far it only seems that a pressure sensitive display has been confirmed for the Meizu Pro 6, the phone may also ship with Flyme based on Android 6.0 and there is a chance it could make use of 6GB RAM like the latest Vivo Xplay 5.

Please kindly no 2k for smartphone,tablet, or notebook. it is just too small to see.
For TV, 2K or 4K i don’t have any problem at all
Even with Full HD already very hard to read the font if you already have a long sighted eyes.
Sorry but soon or later you all also will have the same problem as us ,getting older, knee problem, eyesight problem LOL

I loved the design of the MX5 but could not bring myself to buy it due to lack of some minor details.
This time I would like to get my hands to one but it needs to be GREAT without missing to many features. In the wake of VR stuff one does have to think… Not really necessary the 2K screen???
Any how… Sd-reader ??? Full WORLD network support ??? 6GB RAM of ddr3 or ddr4 ???
What size battery will they use if they are willing to drop 2K from the option tree???

Not having a 2k display is a little disappointing for a flagship phone, especially this year with the big push towards VR. I suppose it’s not necessary if it’s going to be sub 5.5″ though and you have no intention of using a VR headset.

  I still cant see the difference when comparing my oppo find 7 to my redmi note 3. oh yeah, the battery life on the oppo find 7 is TERRIBLE. thats the difference.

        Good for you, I would rather get a phone with a 2k display and a vr headset for half the price, or get the xperia premium and a vr headset for the price of the htc vive. At the end of the day, Thats a matter of opinion. And everyone has their own. 🙂
        My point was, Giving a higher Res. display with the option to change resolution, or a xperia premium like implementation would suit both category of users (VR users and non VR Users). 🙂
        Bottomline, 1080p is good for non vr users, While using a higher res panel is good for VR users with little to no harm. 🙂
        As far as calling it a flagship is concerned, Apple calls a 750p display as flagship. So OEM’s can call it whatever they want. No one gives a ****. 🙂

        And phone VR users are the niche of the niche, so catering for them is such a stupid move I bet no sane company unless the desperate one like HTC would care. Even Samsung only treat it as one of marketing checklist for their new phone while sensible Chinese companies that continuously eroding their market don’t really care.

    I’ve had 6″ phones with 2k and 1080p screens and there’s a big difference! Also I haven’t found much difference in battery life, if anything the 2k phone had better battery life. As HBK below me says, put them both into a VR headset and you will instantly see the difference. I would also go as far and say 2k is still too low when using a VR headset.

      It’s probably more to do with shitty panel on one of your phone rather than the actual resolution itself. I know, I’ve personally compared phone with 720p panel that looks far far more impressive than 1080p one.

        I understand what you’re saying but it had nothing to do with a crap panel. I’ve seen 720p panels that look at least as good/better than some 1080p panels but there are instances where resolution matters (in this case we’re talking about VR) and it doesn’t matter how good the panel is, it will still look like shit in this instance. Just very odd that Meizu are promoting it as a flagship phone when it lacks all the parts that early 2016 flagships now have as standard and we all know how cut throat the industry is and how impressive numbers sound to the uninitiated!

        I wasn’t underwhelmed because it had 1080p. I love the specs of it, I just don’t like the design or the ugly black border. I used a 2k phone for a month and it really didn’t look any better than my 1080p phone and it was huge resource hog. I might even still be interested in the black version once it releases.

        I didn’t say you were underwhelmed by the lack of a 2k panel. Because of the size the human eye wouldn’t detect the differences between 2k and 1080p, even me with my razor sharp vision. I think it was exactly the right decision to stick with a FHD display, regardless of what some people might think. Design wise it was the usual ugly, boring and drab Xiaomi that I’ve been seeing for years, if there’s one thing Xiaomi don’t do well it’s design.

        Yea Xioami has never been at the forefront of design. IMO the last great looking phone they had was the Mi3. Since then it has been incredibly boring (Mi4) or incredibly predictable (Mi Pad 2).

    I know your opinions on screen res, however since this is more than likely going to have a 5.5″ screen at most then it doesn’t need 2k as it’s not noticeable at this size. What annoys me is when people say it makes no difference at 6″+, I’ve had both and the difference is noticeable. Regarding the VR, I know most people won’t be using it so won’t need 2k but I was more surprised by the lack of it from a marketing point of view. We know how manufacturers like to throw big numbers at consumers because it makes the product sound better than it actually is!

      Meizu has always done their own thing though, they don’t chase after the marketing buzz words. For a 6″ phone I think it really depends on the quality of the display. Just recently I used a 6″ Blu Pure XL for a month, it had a 2k display. It looked good but it wasn’t noticeably better than my 1080p Meizu MX5. And it was a resource hog, there was noticeable lag in anything GPU intensive and terrible battery life.

        I was looking at that phone at one point but all the reviews I read said the screen was only average, battery life poor, cameras below average and it suffered some serious lag, needless to say that put me off buying it. Really glad it did as I love the Meizu and the ROM, just wished the screen was bigger as it would be almost perfect.

        I agree with everything except the camera part. The camera was actually very good once you swapped out the stock camera app. Using Open Camera it was one of the best cameras I used on a phone last year. But battery life was beyond terrible, the display was good, not great and the build quality was suspect (first for a Blu/Gionee phone which usually has excellent build).

        But one could also argue that a camera-centric phone should work well for that purpose out of the box. That is one area Gionee should’ve got right since a lot of consumers wouldn’t know about ditching the built in app and would automatically assume the camera was suspect at best. Funnily enough the reviews also mentioned the suspect build quality but it had completely slipped my mind.

        That’s one thing that a lot of companies get wrong. IMO most stock camera apps do more harm than good. Not saying it is okay but they are not exactly the only ones.

  Because is not needed…People, this is the era of Type C with USB 3.1 standard.
  LG’s approach on the VR will be used by everyone that will put a SD820 in their phone.
  Type C allows to have a very nice 1080p display, and let all the people enjoy the VR experience in 2k (if the Adreno can actually manage the res)
  Plus..2k on a 5inch is a total waste.

To be honest, everyone saying No 2k, 1080p is fine etc. I have used 1080 display, its fine for normal use. But i used 1080p display with VR headset. It looks so pathetic, Like a 360p Video. 2k is like minimum for VR. Should be moving towards 4k now.
I dont understand why OEM’s dont use resolution settings. Huwaei Honor 6 had an option to lower 1080p to 720p resolution to increase performance and save battery and it worked well.
Sony Z5 premium had a good implementation as well. Why not use these techniques?

F*&% 2k displays, buy a htc vive if you love VR EVEN that runs on 1080 P! for both eyes lol and if you want a 4k screen phone that cost about 600 dollars plus just get the vive which as in a similar bracket VR sucks right now to me anyways imo it just feels like video in panorama.. only implementation i like is the ones used on roller coaster rides

Funny, Xiaomi goes 1080p and a bunch of people stuck in 2010 keep whining about higher res, every time higher res is mentioned.
Guess we are lucky that Xiaomi didn’t went 480p or we would be hearing how anything above that kills angels and rapes kittens.

  Funny that you forget Xiaomi had a 2k Mi Note Pro last year, and Meizu used 1080p on both the MX5 and Pro 5, both launched before Xiaomi launched the Mi5. It is the right decision, 2k is useless on this size display.

      I wont be going back there for a few weeks, I’ll reach out to my friends and see if they can check.
      At a minimum it will have 2100 and 1800, those are the LTE networks used by AIS, True and DTAC. It will probably also include 2600.

        Usually he uses DTAC, but says he can change.
        He wants to buy the S7 Edge in Thailand when he visits, but he wants to also make sure 4G works in the UK, when he comes back (in the UK he uses Vodafone ?
