The launch of Qiku’s latest smartphone has just taken place and it’s a budget release rather than a flagship model.

Qiku have gone for a plastic bodied phone with options for Magic White, Pink Gold, Blue Lake or Streamer Gold colour options and a screen size of 5-inch (1280 x 720).

Processing comes courtesy of an octacore Mediatek MT6753 chipset, and there are options for either a 2GB+16GB model or 3GB+32GB version. Both phones support SD cards.

And I see 6753 in the text, which is an octa-core…

no … i guess they need a cheaper chip for this ….
helio x10 is less than p10 on per chip cost , right ?

How many P10 phones do you know that cost under $100?

this is a surprisingly good price …
but all of this begs a VERY SERIOUS question ..

how much EXTRA cash it would have cost (and how much the final retail would be affected) to implement say … a Helio x10 in the SAME device ?

It would have been over $100, which is the target price they were going for. You’re probably looking at a minimum of $150 for this phone with an X10 and at that price they are competing with much better phones from better brands. The 6753 is more than powerful enough for this type of phone.

        hmm…

It would be 10$ more max if they got a better SoC only. Come on now S820 costs 70$ wile X20 costs less than half of that.

Who are these prices according to? Do you have actual price lists from Qualcomm and Mediatek to back this up or is it your guess? How many X10 phones cost less than $100?

According to around 100 articles that flood the net about 5~6 days ago.
            Hire is a example:
            http://www.fudzilla.com/news/mobile/40258-snapdragon-820-soc-might-cost-70
If you Google it you will find & more than 100 but as you Bing you will probably find less.
So it’s perfectly possible to make one with X20 with FHD 5+” display & proper battery for 130~140$ & S650 – S652 for 140-150$ retaining same minimal profit margins. A 200$ would be a dream come true with FHD Amoled, 32GB of eMC NAND & 3~4 GB of RAM. A 270$ all that with 64GB of quality eMC NAND, 4GB of DLLP DDR4 & Audio procesor (Wolfgang) & good quality stereo speakers.
I doubt any one will make them with minimal profit margins but they culd anyhow as they tend to make a bullshit ones instead wile not making profit (as they don’t sell good).
So assuming that X10 or P10 don’t cost more than 7$ more than MT6753 they actually culd have made it with them wile retaining price of ~100$.

“This is high-end market but the same unnamed analyst claims that MediaTek is selling its high-end Helio X20 SoC for around $30 per SoC. Unfortunately, our colleagues don’t give any hint about the source, which makes us take this information with a grain of salt.

We are sure that companies like Samsung and LG don’t end up paying the same price as the smaller companies. Still, $70 is probably the pricing for the complete solution.”

Having worked in this industry I take analyst pricing for components very lightly. In this industry the price is different for each company depending on their relationship with the component supplier and how many units they are buying. Also a lot of smaller companies don’t deal directly with Qualcomm or Mediatek they buy them from distributors or from the OEM’s who manufacture the devices. Without seeing actual BOM’s it’s a guessing game to how much each company pays for each device. But there’s always more than just the cost of the actual component.

Leak actually is based on pricing of S820 that Samsung is paying for it & it’s 68$ & that leek whose actually confirmed. So they actually assumed how average price would/should be around 70$. I didn’t follow from where they got X20 pricing as it didn’t interested me much. Price for S650 is assumed on based on price of X20 with a fact that QC can’t go with much bigger one (as it costed them to much already).

Hire is an interesting fact that no one actually took into consideration in all of those articles floating around the net. As the S820 is actually more than 2X bigger in die size & more advanced lithography is used (16nm FinFET) that actually costs 30% more per gate QC is actually having a lower profit margins selling S820 than MTK is taking selling X20.

As a real hater that I am I really look with a joy on Spedtrum jumping in & wiping their assess.
