OPPO is turning the heat up — a bit before summer takes full control — in India.
The Chinese brand is readying itself to manufacture a total of one million 4G-ready phones in India. OPPO has only spent a little over 2 years in India, but already enjoys massive offline following in the cut-throat Indian market thanks to its extensive campaigns.
India CEO Mike Wang revealed in an interview with Economic Times that the brand was looking to produce about a million units of 4G-ready phones, mostly from the 10,000 INR to 20,000 INR range ($150-300). Wang however, did not mention any model names.
These phones will be designed in China, manufactured in India. While these phones produced in India mainly serve the domestic market — which recently surpassed the US to become the 2nd largest smartphone market after China — OPPO plans to export a section of the produce to other South Asian markets.
OPPO’s most recent Indian release, the F1, was launched late January and enjoys primetime commercial footage on Indian TV.
Oppo follows over pricing route. High marketing expense, high price, low value model does not work in India for long.
There is a difference between assembling and manufacturing.
