Meizu Pro 6 complete specifications and images

Meizu just finished the launch of the Meizu Pro 6 over in China, but only the main selling point of the phone were mentioned, here are the full and complete specifications of the phone.

Meizu focussed on the Helio X25 chipset, 4GB RAM, audio, LED flash, and 3D Press (force touch) display at the Meizu Pro 6 launch today, but there were details missing from the presentation that have now been cleared up.

From the official Meizu Pro 6 specifications pages we have learned the full details of the latest Meizu flagship are as follows;

The Meizu Pro 6 measures in at 147.7 x 70.8 x 7.25mm at a weight of 160g. 7.25mm is quite thin for an all metal Meizu phone, and you may worry that the battery size has had to take a dive to keep the phone so slender. Well your worry would be justified as the official battery specs list the capacity at just 2560mAh! However, that small battery size does mean that mCharge 3.0 can fill it up in just 60 minutes via USB Type C.

Meizu mentioned 3D Press as a feature of the Meizu Pro 6, well that is incorporated in to a 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080 FHD AMOLED display. What’s more the screen uses Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection.

The first Pro range phones from Meizu used Samsung chipsets, but for the Pro 6 there is a move to the Mediatek Helio X25 which means the Pro 6 has ‘full netcom’ support. Basically this means that Meizu are able to build just one variant of the phone to support all major networks in China.

The Helio X25 is a Meizu exclusive (for now) and uses clusters made up of 4 x 1.4Ghz cores, 4 x 2.0Ghz cores and 2 x A72 2.5Ghz cores. The SoC also makes use of an ARM Mali T880 GPU and there is a 4GB LPDDR3 RAM module on board too.

Camera specs on the Meizu Pro 6 remain similar to the Pro 5 with a 21.16 mega-pixel Sony IMX230 rear camera, with an F2.2 aperture and 6 lens design. The camera also receive Corning Gorilla glass protection. Rather than laser focus, the Pro 6 has PDAF, and there is a new 10 LED flash ring on the rear of the phone too.

For taking selfies there is a 5 mega-pixel F2.0 front camera with FotoNation 2.0 intelligent beauty features.

Also on the front, but on the chin, is Meizu’s mTouch 2.1 fingerprint identification system. The physical home button has a read and response time of only 0.2s and will work at 360 degrees like most modern fingerprint units.

Meizu haven’t listed the actual bands the Meizu Pro 6 will work on (at this time) but the dual SIM phone will work on all of China’s 4G, 3G and 2G networks. The phone also supports 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac WIFI, and Bluetooth 4.1.

So there we have it, the full Meizu Pro 6 specifications. Meizu might update the details so feel free to head over to the official specifications page here to check any changes.

Overall, with the exception of the battery size, the Pro 6 sounds like a well-rounded phone. Let’s just hope battery life is decent.

If there is a company that can design phones, iTS MEIZU. I wouldnt be surprised if the iPhone 7 would borow this design… I’d have preferred a 5.5inch screen or bigger but thats ok. Also, if they used a high quality battery the phone will last long enough even though a 3000mah battery would have been better

The reasoning behind not using the Exynos might be valid as it doesn’t support CDMA200.

  The only major con I see here is the battery and potentially the camera. But those are just cons on paper until we have a review. We still have no clue how efficient or inefficient the X25 is.

    Hi Balco, what are you impressions of Meizu so far? I love the design of this phone but have read almost universally on the internet that Flyme is a let down and the Meizu range slows down and gets laggy soon without updates

      The MX5 is the first and only Meizu phone I have owned or used. Based on just this phone I like it. The build quality is very good, the camera is excellent and the support has been excellent. I have received around 13 OTA’s since July. Is it perfect? No, but out of score of 1-10, I would give it a solid 8.5.

    “no clue” is rather stretched… We have many hints (20nm build, high clock) about the fact that this soc won’t be a top tier in efficiency… Add that small battery, and all the sw optimization in the world can’t save you from an average battery life at best… Which is a shame for a device in the flagship category!
    Moreover, the camera is just the same of previous models, so it will be good, but not “better”… So again: I don’t see any pros in buying this rather than mx5, pro 5 or even m3 note!

      Hints is rather stretched. Every SoC is different and until this one is tested we can only make assumptions and guesses.
      The camera can in fact be better with the same hardware, it’s called optimization. Apple have been doing this for years. They don’t upgrade the sensor each year to have that “back of the box feature”, instead they spend time working out the algorithms for the sensors they use and figure out how to get the best possible pictures for their hardware. A new sensor doesn’t mean better pictures, it means something new to brag about.

    Yeah, it is crazy honestly I am very disappointed. I think I am gonna get myself a budget phone like Redmi 3 Pro or Note 3 Pro. I am tired when I see the phones released by Xiaomi and Meizu. Even MX5 is still a better choice these days. Meizu M3 Note looks good but waiting for reviews.
    Xiaomi missed the point with MI4S which is unfinished phone IMO, with an SOC like SD652 and better camera it would have been a best seller.

      I actually love the Mi4s, the 808 is an excellent SoC and if the camera matches the Mi4c it could be a great choice if the price is lowered by about $50.

Just a little disappointed. I was expecting a camera upgrade, not with the flash but with the sensor itself. Meizu MX5 with its IMX220 takes better pics than the IMX230 in Pro 5, how I wish they use the same IMX377 in Nexus flagships and HTC 10.

  An upgrade with the sensor itself isn’t always a good thing. Especially a sensor a company has never used before. The MX5 doesn’t take better pictures because of the sensor, it takes better pics because it is better optimized.

You say that the Pro 6 is “only” 160 grams but this is way too heavy for a 5.2 inch device! It is only 8 grams lighter than the Pro 5 with its 5.7 inch screen and Huawei’s P9, with the same size 5.2 display, is 144 grams. Also, the P9 has a bigger battery so I don’t know where the P6’s extra weight comes from. Xiaomi’s new Mi 5 is only 129 grams so, on that basis, the Pro 6 is very heavy, not “only” 160 grams.

  The pressure touch adds 15-20 grams and extra thickness as it is an extra layer in the display.They invested quite a lot (weight, thickness, cost) in this marketing feature.

      Pressure touch is fine but only if you use it well. Using it to enable a right click when you could do that all along with a long press or w/e is not worth much. The entire device is aimed at folks that like shiny things , not at rational buyers. From that point of view it kinda makes sense to invest in this but only because it targets a certain type of buyer. I don’t agree with this kind of strategy but i understand the reasoning here.
      The device would have been nice enough if it had RGB not pentile, 5mm shorter to at least look normal, 3000mAh and fingeprint under the glass or elsewhere.And ofc a bit cheaper.
      I am curious about the 10 LED flash as i’ve been waiting for years for folks to do more than just 2 dumb LEDs
      Anyway, we might not like this device much but it might sell ok to people that just like the looks

  I think the metal used is bulletproof.

Something tells me the camera will not be coping well in the low light,
at least not as well as they claim it will. This should be camera in new Note 3, but not in their flagship. And I’m not talking about using older sensor.
Samsung S7’s aperture=1.7
will still be able to squize way, way more of the shades and low light
situations. I expect the camera here to be in par with this of Mi5, but not better. That’s enough for me to stay away of this phone, even though I like it and I like Flyme a lot.
I
think the prices (for 32GB option) will stabilise at level of ~300$ in
few months and this will make it quite attractive phone then.
Xiaomi and Meizu have completely given up on the phone cameras field – no real improvements here, while Huawei made it probably most important aspect of their P9 marketing. This is surprising.

  I agree on the camera f/2.2 is very underwhelming for a 2016 flagship at least on paper, need to wait for some reviews first before judging one way or the other, but I am not impressed.
  As for the second point I love thin phones so I can’t agree there. One of my favorite phones ever was the Gionee S5.5. I like my phones like I like my woman, super model thin 😉

        My concern exactly. I simply fear that making it thinner is done by the expense of the battery capacity.
        X25 is a big unknown. It will be a hell of a fast one, but will it cope with temps, and how good in power managing it can be, keeping in mind it practically is an overclocked X20? Let’s wait then.

  Part of it could be the different home button used between the MX4 and the newer models. The MX4 uses the tiny halo button which Meizu isn’t allowed to use anymore.

    I like Meizu, but the last year have change your style and personality, before your models have less border and I love the old ratio screen of 5:3 (Ratio between the long and the short side of the display), and more ….. is difficult explain this in english.
    I had several Meizu, now I write this with one, but I think that it,s my last Meizu Smartphone.

“Only” 160 grams? No, 160 grams is actually pretty heavy for a 5.2″/2560mAh device. There’s 5.5″ and even 5.7″ devices lighter than this.

Battery is too small and 60 minutes is a long time to charge it using quick charge. My MX5 with a 3150 charges in 55 minutes. And what type of metal are they using that this thing weighs 160g? The larger MX5 only weighs 149g.
I’ll wait for some reviews before final judgement but this release made the Gionee S8 look even better to me.

This device not deserve to be Pro 6 .. No NFC , no HIFI 3, small battery, heavy, small screen.. I hope they are going to make MX line to be high end phones again..       They said one of their goals was better one handed usability. They felt 5.2 was the sweet spot between 5.5 and 5.
      My take: This is a copycat industry and Xiaomi, Huawei and Samsung are all using displays around 5.2 inches.

        It’s good point. They found there is market for 5.2 inches and they want to have a phone with high end and beautiful design for customers . and let us not forget Helio x25 is managed to be anti kirin 950. I am sure that will be a bigger version plus or note with 5.7 and Samsung SOC.
        I think meizu is on the right direction.

        Samsung doesn’t have CDMA2000 support , that’s why the Galaxy S7 with SD820 exists.
        Meizu needs that support in China, as one of the 3 carriers uses CDMA2000. In the past the Exynos didn’t had an integrated modem so Meizu used a discrete modem by Marvell but now they would have to make a special version with … X25 and that’s not worth it They don’t like SD820 , Kirin doesn’t have CDMA2000 support so the X25 was it.

        I don’t think they are quite done. I expect an MX6 around June/July with the Helio P20 and a Pro 6 Plus with a 5.7 inch display.

I had good expectations for this device…
In the camera department I really do hope that they went crazy high on optimizing it as it not necessarily has to be bad and we know from CrapiPhone that some good-old optimization can make wonders for final image quality.
Those 4 x 1.4ghz cores inside the X25, they better cover a lot in the regular usage department or else we could see a disaster coming…
Everything else is GREAT for me and I do hope it does good in camera and battery life, HOPE.
Mi father is new to smartphone, had a 3″ inch Nokia for a time, went for a 5.5″ ecoo and lost it. Now he is on a 3.5″ screen phone and is complaining he wants a big screen back. He says he really got used to the bigger screen as it’s easier on his eyes to read and everything, he is 60.
So I can see how a 5.7″ 2K screen should be the next 4000mah+ 6gb-ddr4-Ram OV 23.4mpx Camera BE the PRO maX version of this thing. At 9mm and 198grms it should be a no brainer…

  Intialy I was underwhelmed by the specs but after having my coffee and thinking it over it’s starting to grow on me. I am really curious about two things: X25 and camera. If the X25 is a very efficient processor like Mediatek claims this could have very good battery life. As for the camera the F/2.2 aperture puts me off but the camera on the MX5 is excellent because they spent a lot of time optimizing the sensor after using it in the MX4, hopefully the same happened here.

    SoC is my last conern too. It will be a very decent one. Whether it has 95k in Antutu, or 125k it will still be superfast. I wonder how it will cope with temps, as it’s pretty much overclocked X20.
    Camera will be excellent in good light, but no optimization can help in low light, if the optics are lacking here. Example of Huawei P9 seems to confirm this claim, since their camera is great, but S7 squizes more of dark conditions.

    Still the P9 for example goes with f2.2 (there are 2 of them, but 2.2 nonetheless) what will go down is low light situations… And usually most users for that will be looking for selfies. If they are at a “”low light situation”” and decide to take a picture there are not that many things to do, 😉 hehehe

Personally I go with Pro 6. I hate the design of the Mi5 and the camera is very underwhelming.

  The Pro 6. The battery is a bugbear for me, but the design is still much better than the Mi5, and I’ll just try and be optimistic and wait and see what the reviews say about battery life.
  Plus even though the Mi5 launch really talked up its camera, I’d say the Pro 5 could still easily stand toe-to-toe with it, if not surpass, even the MX5 probably could give it a good run for its money (also the Honor 7), so if the Pro 6 at least maintains that, it would still be my preference.

      I don’t think the OIS in the Mi5 actually achieves as much as it was hyped to. Low light samples from the Mi5 have been pretty lacklustre and noisy.

    Flyme is like a lighter version of MIUI. As for updates Meizu has a spotty past with that, updates for the MX5 have been very good but updates for some of the M line have not.

      I would love to give this a try but i am a bit burnt with the software mess that was meizu m2 note. I know miui and have used it for years and have zero complaints software wise on the redmi note 3 pro. The grey version looks excellent so i will wait for reviews

  Personally pro 6 because pro 5 is just too big for me but spec wise, I feel let down. I had high hopes for the pro 6. To be honest I could have got over all the other shortcomings if this had come with OIS. But spec wise it is not even a mi5 competitor and i’m not liking the mi5 at all really. We have to be realistic as well, then x25 is not in the same league as the snapdragon 820 period. And whatever optimisation they do with the camera, with f2.2 and no OIS it will simply not perform in low light as good as a an LG G5, Samsung S7, HTC 10, iphone 6s plus or even an mi5.
  Why meizu refuse to use low aperture lenses and OIS completely baffles me. And why 10 LED flash? No one wants to use flash because it tends to over expose in dark environments, so why are they adding LED’s? They are selling an international model, so again no NFC? come on, its a ridiculous oversight. Then of course there is the battery issue…again, why? They stick 4000mah in an 8.2mm chasis for the m3 note, take 1mm off for the pro6 and suddenly its under 3000mah? Seems to me meizu are scared to take on the big boys, because they certainly aren’t going to with this spec. I just wonder weather the MX line is dead or not because if the pro 6 is their reasonably size flagship (5.5 inch or smaller) then they have flopped it really. Not to say it may not be an ok device for the price, i still may consider it but its disappointing.

    What makes you think the X25 isn’t in the same league as the 820? In Geekbench they are very close in single core, and the X25 destroys it in multicore. According to realjjj the 820’s GPU is better on paper but struggles when under load.
    Meizu isn’t quite an international brand yet the majority of their sales come from within China so I am not surprised by the lack of NFC.

      I would have to see benchmark figures but I imagine the snapdragon gpu beats out the x25, and the iphone 6s/plus will absolutely destroy it and for me GPU is really important. Also the fact it is a 14nm process so meizu would literally have to perform complete miracles on a 20nm soc to be as power efficient. And while antutu isnt a marker of much the descrepency between the 2 is still huge. I just think snapdragon 820 is a btter cpu. NFC wise that argument doesn’t stack up because the pro 5 has NFC. So why remove it?It’s just a step backward considering meizu have increased their international presence of late as well with flyme global forums/youtube, more dedication to international website and firmwares etc. As i said before though I could have got over the cpu and NFC its that bloody camera fail that I just cant make sense of. Just seems Meizu are focussing on cost cutting rather than really competing with the best and its frustrating because design wise and in a lot of ways software wise too I genuinely believe they are above samsung/htc and most of the other big players they just cant nail cameras and cant nail spec sheets. For all my dissatisfaction with xiaomi, they at least put together monster specs every time.

        Agreed, tbh after thinking about it, it was a completely bizarre move by meizu. No manufacturer on the planet downgrades with a new device in a high end range. Also just realized the camera is F2.2 down from F2.0 on the pro 5. You could potentially argue that almost everything about the pro 6 is worse than the pro 5. Also cloning apples 3D touch is a gimmick and meizu are clearly devoting unnecessary resources to pointless stuff rather than focusing on core functionality like cameras.

        If the camera is anything like the MX5 I am not worried about it at all. The MX5 is 2.2 and it is capable of taking some amazing shots even in low light.

        I never said they cant take good pictures, the IMX 230 is just not on the level of the IMX260 or IMX377 in all lighting conditions. Its not about when it was released either its about the type of sensor. We all know the IMX260/377 both have physically larger sensors with larger pixels and can take in much more light and also have much lower apertures than the IMX230. So in any lighting condition they will offer better results despite the higher MP count on the 230. That is not to say the 230 cant take good pictures, it is just not as versatile sensor and will be absolutely crushed in low light by both the 260 & IMX377. There is a reason why the biggest manufacturers competing at the top end of the market are favouring sensors with larger pixels and lower apertures instead of higher MP count, because they yield better results across the board when implemented well.

        You do realize the sensor and the aperture are separate components? The aperture is part of the lens setup. Meizu uses the IMX 230 with an f/2.2. Moto uses the IMX 230 with an f/2.0. A wider (lower number) aperture can be a good thing, more light is never bad but it can also lead to chromatic aberrations and sharpness issues. Lower aperture isn’t the be all end all of smartphone cameras, it is one of many components along with software that work in unison to create great images. And the IMX 260 is not a physically larger sensor than the IMX 230. The 260 measures 7.18mm, the 230 measures 7.487 mm but sensor size matters very little. What does matter is pixel size and the 260 and 277 do have a larger pixel size. On paper the 260 and 377 are great sensors but simply having the hardware doesn’t guarantee you great pictures (look at brands like Elephone). The sensor needs to be paired with a high quality lens and great software optimizations. You can have an IMX 377 with a f/1.7 and still have terrible pictures if you are using a cheap lens and do no optimization to it.
        GSM arena often does blind tests in which they show users photos from different phones, in one of them they pitted the Meizu Pro 5 vs Nexus 6P vs LG V10 vs Note 5. On paper all of those are better than the Pro 5. Yet more people voted for the Pro 5 (not knowing which brand it was) than the 6P or Note 5. Which is why you need to look at the entire package and not just the raw specs.

        Low aperture doesn’t guarantee good pictures but the point is companies like samsung and LG and even google/huwaei arent amateurs know how to optimize sensors and all of their flagships produce excellent results in a range of lighting conditions and environments and low aperture and OIS contributes to those great results.
        And one blind test judged mostly by amateur photographers where the pro 5 won one category in one photo comparison means very little, it is not a comprehensive victory at all, meizu didnt win any of the other categories lol. Plus the pro 5 uses f2.0 for a start. I admire your optimism but any way you spin it when tested across the board in a range of lighting conditions, indoor/ourtdoor/low light/bright sunlight etc and also video and other shooting modes like panorama etc. Not to mention speed of app/focussing etc etc there is simply no way the pro 6 will be able to compete with the likes of samsung S7/ LG G5/ HTC 10 etc etc and even the nexus p because they are all formidable rivals who optimise cameras very well and also use OIS and low apertures and larger pixel sensors which are well implemented and Meizu wont be able to match them using the IMX230. The results will no doubt show this. You think meixu would be selling the pro 6 for the price it was if it could match or outperform samsung S7 and all top end flagships accross the board in the camarea stakes? No chance.

        Price means very little, Meizu sold the MX5 for around $300 and it has a camera that is better or equal to every flagship last year, even those with much better spec sheets. The difference is you only care about what is on the spec sheet, I care about the actual results.
        As for that GSM Arena test the Pro 6 beats the Nexus 6P and Galaxy S5 in almost every single category. Both of those should have destroyed it judging by everything you said above, it shouldn’t have even been close. But actual results and specs on a piece of paper are often times completely different things. And the Pro 5 has f/2.2, even you don’t know what you argue, you’re so consumed with the raw specs lol.

        Not sure where you are getting your info because every camera comparison I have seen of the mx5 and top end flagships from last year like the S6 and G4 saw it get beaten pretty comprehensively especially in low light, panorama mode, focus speed, light metering/balance, video quality/stabilisation and the camera app itself.
        My mistake on the Pro 5 being F2.0.
        One blind test that is not comprehensive by any means, is judged by amateurs and is based on 4 pictures and a video is hardly conclusive proof of anything. I have seen a heap of reviews not putting the pro 5 on the level of last years leading flagships camera wise, many sighting poor low light photography, weak panoramas and weak app user interface. Android authority amongst others didn’t even rate it that highly at all.
        Not sure how you got that I only care about spec sheets from my last comment, I mentioned specs but also the importance of R&D budgets, software optimizations etc etc, so I will disregard that as you’ve just invented that completely.
        At the end of the day it is all conjecture until we see comprehensive reviews. For all the reasons I stated before (not just specs) I still believe it will still not be on the level of leading flagships released this year for camera quality and camera user experience. I’m sure you will disagree and then be proven wrong once the reviews drop but somehow find a way to still argue it is on the level of leading flagships. There is also no way you can convince me the pro 6 camera would not have been better with OIS or that i am not disappointed that it does not have OIS because I am.
        Funny thing is I want this phone to be great, I am still seriously considering it as I am a big meizu fan, they are one of my favourite android manufacturers. So will wait until reviews to cast final judgement but from what I have read/seen so far i think it will fall short of rivalling flagships from the big names in a few core departments, battery and camera being the main two. It may still be a worthy purchase though given the lower price tag.

        I am able to form my own opinions apparently you need those of tech journalists to form yours. I have just as much if not more experience with phones as most journalists. Andi is one of the few I trust outside of myself when it comes to cameras.
        Just so we are clear, I am nog saying Pro 6 is gonna have a good or bad camera. I just won’t judge it based on spec sheets. I can point you to hundreds of cameras that are better on the spec sheet but worse in execution.

        lol, well yeah cos neither I nor anyone in my family have either phone and i have only played with them briefly so that may be why. I would defo trust a whole heap of tech journalists with far more rigorous testing and more combined experience than one random guy on a forum whos wife owns one of them lol. I dont think there is a conspiracy amongst the tech reviewer community to try and say the MX5 has a worse camera than the Samsung S6, most have just found that to be the case in their tests.
        I am not saying I know 100% either and i’m not judging only on specs. But based on the specs AND other info as explained in last comment plus a few pre release photos ive seen and a number of full reviews of competing well optimized handsets from the big players you can make a very good educated guess. For example I would say that there is an extremely high probability this will get crushed by the Nexus 6P in low light and the Samsung S7 will kill it in video capture both in quality and stabilisation.

        Yeah I have, seen a few mainly on chinese sites. But they were very comprehensive with loads of photos and videos. Couple of english ones on youtube too. Gichina.it one quite in depth as well. Can clearly see photos and video mostly dont stack up to S6. Also with regards to others just because they don’t have the phones side by side doesnt mean the reviews are irrelevant. Many sites test phones quite rigorously and with proper photo/video/camera analysis.

        Ironically Andi didn’t like the MX5 really at all, yash was a fan though. I got one just arrived yesterday actually for a friend, cant open yet but will have a play this week and see how it fares. Couple of pro 6 reviews out on youtube….
        Looks decent, I think battery seems to be average but not a disaster and camera good but not on S7/Nexus P level as suspected. I’m still really tempted just think the price after export is very high considering its will be the same price or more than a GS6 now.

    In my scale above I would say the Pro 6 wins. Of course all of this could change when it is reviewed. The Mi5 is one of the worst flagships Xiaomi has ever launched. I am not the only Xiaomi fanboy to think that either. Xiaomi alienated a lot of their longtime fans with this release. Hopefully a new Mi Note will be launched soon that makes up for all the Mi5’s shortcomings.

Just a little disappointed. I was expecting a camera upgrade, not with the flash but with the sensor itself. Meizu MX5 with its IMX220 takes better pics than the IMX230 in Pro 5, how I wish they use the same IMX377 in Nexus flagships and HTC 10.

Let down by the low battery capacity, even if the chip is super efficient 8 would still have liked a larger battery. I like flyme, I like the mtouch button/fingerprint scanner and like the design… But I am not convinced it is enough of an upgrade to my mx5 to justify… Thoughts and opinions appreciated!

  The IMX 230 is about a year old. Meizu likes to stick with the same sensors it has used in previous phones. A new sensor wouldn’t mean better or worse pictures. Meizu is becoming more and more like Apple when it comes to cameras and that can be a good thing, instead of just updating the sensor they updated the technology around it and worked on optimizing it.

        I am saying upgrading a specific component isn’t always the answer. Look at the car industry, most brands use the same engine and chassis across multiple platforms for multiple years. Instead of introducing a brand new engine/chassis they tweak the existing ones. Sometimes upgrades are needed, sometimes simply upgrading software can have the same or better effect as a new component. Every phone and company is different

You say that the Pro 6 is “only” 160 grams but this is way too heavy for a 5.2 inch device! It is only 8 grams lighter than the Pro 5 with its 5.7 inch screen and Huawei’s P9, with the same size 5.2 display, is 144 grams. Also, the P9 has a bigger battery so I don’t know where the Pro 6’s extra weight comes from. Xiaomi’s new Mi 5 is only 129 grams so, on that basis, the Pro 6 is very heavy, not “only” 160 grams.

  Pressure touch is fine but only if you use it well. Using it to enable a right click when you could do that all along with a long press or w/e is not worth much. The entire device is aimed at folks that like shiny things , not at rational buyers. From that point of view it kinda makes sense to invest in this but only because it targets a certain type of buyer. I don’t agree with this kind of strategy but i understand the reasoning here.
  The device would have been nice enough if it had RGB not pentile, 5mm shorter to at least look normal, 3000mAh and fingeprint under the glass or elsewhere.And ofc a bit cheaper.
  I am curious about the 10 LED flash as i’ve been waiting for years for folks to do more than just 2 dumb LEDs
  Anyway, we might not like this device much but it might sell ok to people that just like the looks

Something tells me the camera will not be coping well in the low light,
at least not as well as they claim it will. This should be camera in new Note 3, but not in their flagship. And I’m not talking about using older sensor.
Samsung S7’s aperture=1.7 will still be able to squize way, way more of the shades and low light situations. I expect the camera here to be in par with this of Mi5, but not better. That’s enough for me to stay away of this phone, even though I like it and I like Flyme a lot.
Xiaomi and Meizu have completely given up on the phone cameras field – no real improvements here, while Huawei made it probably most important aspect of their P9 marketing. This is surprising.
Don’t also care about that stupid race to make the phones thinner and thinner. Focus on the battery offering decent life, not on this and shiny backs (GJ Meizu on not following this one at least).
I think the prices (for 32GB option) will stabilise at level of ~300$ in
few months and this will make it quite attractive phone then.

  As for the second point I love thin phones so I can’t agree there. One of my favorite phones ever was the Gionee S5.5. I like my phones like I like my woman, super model thin 😉

  I like Meizu, but the last year have change your style and personality, before your models have less border and I love the old ratio screen of 5:3 (Ratio between the long and the short side of the display), and more ….. is difficult explain this in english.

Kind of tells me that Meizu MX6 will really be their highlight phone for the year. Meizu Pro 6 does not even have the ESS9028 DAC which I thought they would have nor TI’s Op-Amp. I’ve always wanted the Meizu MX5 which I think is their best camera phone to date (would have been perfect with the same 420 second max shutter in Pro 5!)

“Only” 160 grams? No, 160 grams is actually pretty heavy for a 5.2″/2560mAh device. There’s 5.5″ and even 5.7″ devices lighter than this.

Battery is too small and 60 minutes is a long time to charge it using quick charge. My MX5 with a 3150 charges in 55 minutes. And what type of metal are they using that this thing weighs 160g? The larger MX5 only weighs 149g.
I’ll wait for some reviews before final judgement but this release made the Gionee S8 look even better to me. I am hoping an MX6 is on the way with an X20, bigger battery and better camera.

Found this battery life test from China. As far as i can tell with Google Translate on the left you got 3h of mild usage , intermittent IM , social, news and music and i assume the numbers are % of battery left. On the right 3h of heavy usage with 1h gaming, 1h browsing and 1h of video streaming with wifi and 4G on, brightness on auto and notifications off.

        Whether you agree with the numbers GSM comes up with or not the fact remains their battery test is universal and consistent, unlike Antutu it doesn’t change every year to make the numbers bigger.
        As for the SE it has incredible battery life thanks to an efficient processor and 4inch 640 x 1136 display.

This device not deserve to be Pro 6 .. No NFC , no HIFI 3, small battery, heavy, small screen.. I hope they are going to make MX line to be high end phones again..   They said one of their goals was better one handed usability. They felt 5.2 was the sweet spot between 5.5 and 5.
  My take: This is a copycat industry and Xiaomi, Huawei and Samsung are all using displays around 5.2 inches.

  It’s good point. They found there is market for 5.2 inches and they want to have a phone with high end and beautiful design for customers . and let us not forget Helio x25 is managed to be anti kirin 950. I am sure that will be a bigger version plus or note with 5.7 and Samsung SOC.

  Samsung doesn’t have CDMA2000 support , that’s why the Galaxy S7 with SD820 exists.
  Meizu needs that support in China, as one of the 3 carriers uses CDMA2000. In the past the Exynos didn’t had an integrated modem so Meizu used a discrete modem by Marvell but now they would have to make a special version with … X25 and that’s not worth it They don’t like SD820 , Kirin doesn’t have CDMA2000 support so the X25 was it.

I had good expectations for this device…
In the camera department I really do hope that they went crazy high on optimizing it as it not necessarily has to be bad and we know from CrapiPhone that some good-old optimization can make wonders for final image quality.
Those 4 x 1.4ghz cores inside the X25, they better cover a lot in the regular usage department or else we could see a disaster coming…
Everything else is GREAT for me and I do hope it does good in camera and battery life, HOPE.
Mi father is new to smartphone, had a 3″ inch Nokia for a time, went for a 5.5″ ecoo and lost it. Now he is on a 3.5″ screen phone and is complaining he wants a big screen back. He says he really got used to the bigger screen as it’s easier on his eyes to read and everything, he is 60.
So I can see how a 5.7″ 2K screen should be the next 4000mah+ 6gb-ddr4-Ram OV 23.4mpx Camera BE the PRO maX version of this thing. At 9mm and 198grms it should be a no brainer…

  Intialy I was underwhelmed by the specs but after having my coffee and thinking it over it’s starting to grow on me. I am really curious about two things: X25 and camera. If the X25 is a very efficient processor like Mediatek claims this could have very good battery life. As for the camera the F/2.2 aperture puts me off but the camera on the MX5 is excellent because they spent a lot of time optimizing the sensor after using it in the MX4, hopefully the same happened here.

  SoC is my last concern too. It will be a very decent one. Whether it has 95k in Antutu, or 125k it’s still superfast. I wonder how it will cope with temps, as it’s pretty much overclocked X20.
  Camera will be excellent in good light, but no optimization can help in low light, if the optics are lacking here. Example of Huawei P9 seems to confirm this claim, since their camera is great, but S7 squizes more of dark conditions due to better aperture.

  Still the P9 for example goes with f2.2 (there are 2 of them, but 2.2 nonetheless) what will go down is low light situations… And usually most users for that will be looking for selfies. If they are at a “”low light situation”” and decide to take a picture there are not that many things to do, 😉 hehehe

Quick poll. Now that both have been released and they are essentially direct competitors, which do you think is better: Pro 6 or Mi5.
Personally I go with Pro 6. I hate the design of the Mi5 and the camera is very underwhelming.

  The Pro 6. The battery is a bugbear for me, but the design is still much better than the Mi5, and I’ll just try and be optimistic and wait and see what the reviews say about battery life.
  Plus even though the Mi5 launch really talked up its camera, I’d say the Pro 5 could still easily stand toe-to-toe with it, if not surpass, even the MX5 probably could give it a good run for its money (also the Honor 7), so if the Pro 6 at least maintains that, it would still be my preference.

  Flyme is like a lighter version of MIUI. As for updates Meizu has a spotty past with that, updates for the MX5 have been very good but updates for some of the M line have not.

  Personally pro 6 because pro 5 is just too big for me but spec wise, I feel let down. I had high hopes for the pro 6. To be honest I could have got over all the other shortcomings if this had come with OIS. But spec wise it is not even a mi5 competitor and i’m not liking the mi5 at all really. We have to be realistic as well, then x25 is not in the same league as the snapdragon 820 period. And whatever optimisation they do with the camera, with f2.2 and no OIS it will simply not perform in low light as good as an LG G5, Samsung S7, HTC 10, iphone 6s plus or even an mi5.
  Why meizu refuse to use low aperture lenses and OIS completely baffles me. And why 10 LED flash? No one wants to use flash because it tends to over expose in dark environments, so why are they adding LED’s? They are selling an international model, so again no NFC? come on, its a ridiculous oversight. Then of course there is the battery issue…again, why? They stick 4000mah in an 8.2mm chassis for the m3 note, take 1mm off for the pro6 and suddenly its under 3000mah? Plus the fact its a 20nm soc I just cant see how battery will be that good no matter how well optimised it is. Seems to me meizu are scared to take on the big boys, because they certainly aren’t going to with this spec. I just wonder weather the MX line is dead or not because if the pro 6 is their reasonably size flagship (5.5 inch or smaller) then they have flopped it really. Not to say it may not be an OK device for the price, i still may consider it if reviews are good but its disappointing.

  What makes you think the X25 isn’t in the same league as the 820? In Geekbench they are very close in single core, and the X25 destroys it in multicore. According to realjjj the 820’s GPU is better on paper but struggles when under load.
  Meizu isn’t quite an international brand yet the majority of their sales come from within China so I am not surprised by the lack of NFC.

  I would have to see benchmark figures but yeah id imagine the snapdragon gpu beats out the x25 liek you say, and the iphone 6s/plus will absolutely destroy it and for me GPU is really important. Also the fact it is a 14nm process so meizu would literally have to perform complete miracles on a 20nm soc to be as power efficient. And while antutu isnt a marker of much the descrepency between the 2 is still huge. I just think snapdragon 820 is a btter cpu. NFC wise that argument doesn’t stack up because the pro 5 has NFC. So why remove it?It’s just a step backward considering meizu have increased their international presence of late as well with flyme global forums/youtube, more dedication to international website and firmwares etc. As i said before though I could have got over the cpu and NFC its that bloody camera fail that I just cant make sense of. Like what real world use advantage have mx5 users got? Its the same sensor and will probably be optimised the same. Just seems Meizu are focussing on cost cutting rather than really competing with the best and its frustrating because design wise and in a lot of ways software wise too I genuinely believe they are above samsung/htc and most of the other big players they just cant nail cameras and cant nail spec sheets. For all my dissatisfaction with xiaomi, they at least put together monster spec sheets every time, that never leave you wanting. Xiaomi more fail on design and FW optimisations where meizu excel.

  Agreed, tbh after thinking about it, it was a completely bizarre move by meizu. No manufacturer on the planet downgrades with a new device in a high end range. Also just realized the camera is F2.2 down from F2.0 on the pro 5. You could potentially argue that almost everything about the pro 6 is worse than the pro 5. Also cloning apples 3D touch is a gimmick and meizu are clearly devoting unnecessary resources to pointless stuff rather than focusing on core functionality like cameras.

  In my scale above I would say the Pro 6 wins. Of course all of this could change when it is reviewed. The Mi5 is one of the worst flagships Xiaomi has ever launched. I am not the only Xiaomi fanboy to think that either. Xiaomi alienated a lot of their longtime fans with this release. Hopefully a new Mi Note will be launched soon that makes up for all the Mi5’s shortcomings. And judging by the comments to my Poll, Pro 6 wins by a near landslide. You are the only one to say Mi5.

  I never said they cant take good pictures, the IMX 230 is just not on the level of the IMX260 or IMX377 in all lighting conditions. Its not about when it was released either its about the type of sensor. We all know the IMX260/377 used in the HTC 10/nexus p and S7 are physically larger sensors but also have larger pixels and can take in much more light and also have much lower apertures than the IMX230. So the will offer consistently better results accross a larger range of lighting conditions despite the higher MP count on the 230. That is not to say the 230 cant take good pictures, it is just not as versatile sensor and will be absolutely crushed in low light by both the 260 & IMX377. There is a reason why the biggest manufacturers who are competing at the top end of the market are favouring sensors with larger pixels and lower apertures instead of higher MP count, because they yield better results across the board when implemented well.

  You do realize the sensor and the aperture are separate components? The aperture is part of the lens setup. Meizu uses the IMX 230 with an f/2.2. Moto uses the IMX 230 with an f/2.0. A wider (lower number) aperture can be a good thing, more light is never bad but it can also lead to chromatic aberrations and sharpness issues. Lower aperture isn’t the be all end all of smartphone cameras, it is one of many components along with software that work in unison to create great images. And the IMX 260 is not a physically larger sensor than the IMX 230. The 260 measures 7.18mm, the 230 measures 7.487 mm but sensor size matters very little. What does matter is pixel size and the 260 and 277 do have a larger pixel size. On paper the 260 and 377 are great sensors but simply having the hardware doesn’t guarantee you great pictures (look at brands like Elephone). The sensor needs to be paired with a high quality lens and great software optimizations. You can have an IMX 377 with a f/1.7 and still have terrible pictures if you are using a cheap lens and do no optimization to it.
  GSM arena often does blind tests in which they show users photos from different phones, in one of them they pitted the Meizu Pro 5 vs Nexus 6P vs LG V10 vs Note 5. On paper all of those are better than the Pro 5. Yet more people voted for the Pro 5 (not knowing which brand it was) than the 6P or Note 5. Which is why you need to look at the entire package and not just the raw specs.

  Low aperture doesn’t guarantee good pictures but the point is companies like samsung and LG and even google/huwaei arent amateurs, they all know how to optimize sensors and all of their flagships produce excellent results in a range of lighting conditions and environments and low aperture and OIS contributes to those great results. All thos ecmpanies also have more resources than meizu and higher R&D budgets.
  And one blind test judged mostly by amateur photographers where the pro 5 won one category in one photo comparison means very little, it is not a comprehensive victory at all, meizu didnt win any of the other categories lol. Plus the pro 5 uses f2.0 for a start. I admire your optimism but any way you spin it when tested across the board in a range of lighting conditions, indoor/outdoor/low light/bright sunlight etc and also video and other shooting modes like panorama etc. Not to mention speed of app/focussing etc etc there is simply no way the pro 6 will be able to compete with the likes of samsung S7/ LG G5/ HTC 10 etc etc and even the nexus p. They are all formidable rivals who optimise cameras very well and also use OIS and low apertures and larger pixel sensors which are well implemented and Meizu wont be able to match them using the IMX230. The results will no doubt show this. You really think meizu would be selling the pro 6 for the price it was if it could match or outperform samsung S7 and all top end flagships across the board in the camera stakes? No chance. Would be a world first as well.

  Price means very little, Meizu sold the MX5 for around $300 and it has a camera that is better or equal to every flagship last year, even those with much better spec sheets. The difference is you only care about what is on the spec sheet, I care about the actual results.
  As for that GSM Arena test the Pro 6 beats the Nexus 6P and Galaxy S5 in almost every single category. Both of those should have destroyed it judging by everything you said above, it shouldn’t have even been close. But actual results and specs on a piece of paper are often times completely different things. And the Pro 5 has f/2.2, even you don’t know what you argue, you’re so consumed with the raw specs lol.

  Not sure where you are getting your info because every camera comparison I have seen of the mx5 and top end flagships from last year like the S6 and G4 saw it get beaten pretty comprehensively especially in low light, panorama mode, focus speed, light metering/balance, video quality/stabilisation and the camera app itself.
  My mistake on the Pro 5 being F2.0.
  One blind test that is not comprehensive by any means, is judged by amateurs and is based on 4 pictures and a video is hardly conclusive proof of anything. I have seen a heap of reviews not putting the pro 5 on the level of last years leading flagships camera wise, many sighting poor low light photography, weak panoramas and weak app user interface. Android authority amongst others didn’t even rate it that highly at all.
  Not sure how you got that I only care about spec sheets from my last comment, I mentioned specs but also the importance of R&D budgets, software optimizations etc etc, so I will disregard that as you’ve just invented that completely.
  At the end of the day it is all conjecture until we see comprehensive reviews. For all the reasons I stated before (not just specs) I still believe it will still not be on the level of leading flagships released this year for camera quality and camera user experience. I’m sure you will disagree and then be proven wrong once the reviews drop but somehow find a way to still argue it is on the level of leading flagships. There is also no way you can convince me the pro 6 camera would not have been better with OIS or that i am not disappointed that it does not have OIS because I am.
  Funny thing is I want this phone to be great, I am still seriously considering it as I am a big meizu fan, they are one of my favourite android manufacturers. So will wait until reviews to cast final judgement but from what I have read/seen so far i think it will fall short of rivalling flagships from the big names in a few core departments, battery and camera being the main two. It may still be a worthy purchase though given the lower price tag.

  I am able to form my own opinions apparently you need those of tech journalists to form yours. I have just as much if not more experience with phones as most journalists. Andi is one of the few I trust outside of myself when it comes to cameras.
  Just so we are clear, I am nog saying Pro 6 is gonna have a good or bad camera. I just won’t judge it based on spec sheets. I can point you to hundreds of cameras that are better on the spec sheet but worse in execution.

  lol, well yeah cos neither I nor anyone in my family have either phone and i have only played with them briefly so that may be why. I would defo trust a whole heap of tech journalists with far more rigorous testing and more combined experience than one random guy on a forum whos wife owns one of them lol. I dont think there is a conspiracy amongst the tech reviewer community to try and say the MX5 has a worse camera than the Samsung S6, most have just found that to be the case in their tests.
  I am not saying I know 100% either and i’m not judging only on specs. But based on the specs AND other info as explained in last comment plus a few pre release photos ive seen and a number of full reviews of competing well optimized handsets from the big players you can make a very good educated guess. For example I would say that there is an extremely high probability this will get crushed by the Nexus 6P in low light and the Samsung S7 will kill it in video capture both in quality and stabilisation.

  Yeah I have, seen a few mainly on chinese sites. But they were very comprehensive with loads of photos and videos. Couple of english ones on youtube too. Gichina.it one quite in depth as well. Can clearly see photos and video mostly dont stack up to S6. Also with regards to others just because they don’t have the phones side by side doesnt mean the reviews are irrelevant. Many sites test phones quite rigorously and with proper photo/video/camera analysis.

  Ironically Andi didn’t like the MX5 really at all, yash was a fan though. I got one just arrived yesterday actually for a friend, cant open yet but will have a play this week and see how it fares. Couple of pro 6 reviews out on youtube….

  Looks decent, I think battery seems to be average but not a disaster and camera good but not on S7/Nexus P level as suspected. Annoying that the gallery and camera does not have a proper landscape orientation either. I’m still really tempted as I love the design aesthetic, looks better than any other android device out there just think the price after export is very high considering it will be the same price or more than a GS6 now.

Let down by the low battery capacity, even if the chip is super efficient 8 would still have liked a larger battery. I like flyme, I like the mtouch button/fingerprint scanner and like the design… But I am not convinced it is enough of an upgrade to my mx5 to justify… Thoughts and opinions appreciated!

  I am currently in that same predicament. There is nothing wrong with my Mx5 and it has been an excellent phone. But I really love the looks of that dark gray version.

  it does have laser, as for all else, i’ve commented plenty on this, here and in the other article.
  Price wise, not if they want rational people to buy it but with this kind of looks and specs they have a different target. Chances are it will sell ok on looks and image. Wouldn’t say that it’s half assed , just with a lot of cons.

  The IMX 230 is about a year old. Meizu likes to stick with the same sensors it has used in previous phones. A new sensor wouldn’t mean better or worse pictures. Meizu is becoming more and more like Apple when it comes to cameras and that can be a good thing, instead of just updating the sensor they updated the technology around it and worked on optimizing it.

  A lot of people don’t realize reworking the sensor algorithms can have a far bigger impact on photos than upgrading any other piece of the camera setup with the exception of the lens.

  I am saying upgrading a specific component isn’t always the answer. Look at the car industry, most brands use the same engine and chassis across multiple platforms for multiple years. Instead of introducing a brand new engine/chassis they tweak the existing ones. Sometimes upgrades are needed, sometimes simply upgrading software can have the same or better effect as a new component. Every phone and company is different

Is it usual that these Chinese manufacturers make both a Chinese & International variant. Also for those of us who want the international variant, how can we be sure we get it ?

    The international model of the Huawei Mate 8 is NXT-L29
    The chinese model of the Huawei Mate 8 is NXT-TL00
    Unless I didn’t know that i’m sure many sites only sell the NXT-TL00 variant to unsuspecting persons in the West ?

Kind of tells me that Meizu MX6 will really be their highlight phone for the year. Meizu Pro 6 does not even have the ESS9028 DAC which I thought they would have nor TI’s Op-Amp. I’ve always wanted the Meizu MX5 which I think is their best camera phone to date (would have been perfect with the same 420 second max shutter in Pro 5!)

Found this battery life test from China. As far as i can tell with Google Translate, on the left you got 3h of mild usage , intermittent IM , social, news and music and i assume the numbers are % of battery left. On the right 3h of heavy usage with 1h gaming, 1h browsing and 1h of video streaming with wifi and 4G on, brightness on auto and notifications off.

  6S Plus gets pretty good battery life. GSM Arena’s test gives it 85h, two less than the S7 Edge(CDMA).

  Whether you agree with the numbers GSM comes up with or not the fact remains their battery test is universal and consistent, unlike Antutu it doesn’t change every year to make the numbers bigger.
  As for the SE it has incredible battery life thanks to an efficient processor and 4inch 640 x 1136 display.

Sounds more like a marketing brochure than a spec release. No, the specifications are not full when the bands are missing. Also no mention of SD card.
