LeEco today took the wraps off of its second generation of phones, in the LeEco Le 2, Le 2 Pro and the Le Max 2. There have been a couple launches between the first and second generation of LeEco phones though, namely the Le 1s and the Le Max Pro.

Anyway, let us here take a look at what differentiates the Le 2 vs Le 2 Pro vs Le Max 2. The phones have just launched so we don’t have the units with us, but what we do have are the spec sheets which should be good for now.

Like any other LeEco phones, this bunch is pretty affordable also. Take a look at the pricing:

Le 2: 1099 Yuan ($170)
Le 2 Pro: 1,499 Yuan ($230)
Le Max 2 (4GB/6GB): 2,099 Yuan ($325) / 2,499 Yuan ($390)

It has been learnt that LeEco plans to bring at least one of these phones to the US later this year.

i dont care of lte, and i dont use the headphone jack tooo often as i usually lsiten voer bluetooth…i jsut listen to mp3 and no high quality audio stuff :p
but i’m really concerned about camera and software…i’m so used to miui/flyme that i dont mind software without app drawer and such stuff
but flyme and miui have plenty of features and regular updates..how is it over there with letv?
any experience from apst letv phones?
i’m looking for a 5,5″ phone with quickcharge..helio x20 or better..fhd decent camera and i guess the le 2 pro could fit that pretty well..since the mi 5 is a bit to small
guess i gotta wait for reviews especially on camera quality.. else i might also consider waiting for the mx 6 if it will have 5,5″ hopefully.

  I have the Le 1s for 6 months and I can tell you I am more than happy with the software support the phone has received, every month I get updates and regarding the camera quality it has improved a lot since Andi did the initial review in December, and I can say the software is pretty well optimized out of 3 GBs of RAM I have an average of 1.5 GB free with no apps in the background.

      My only gripe about LeTV staff is that they didn’t bring the 6.0 update yet not even sure if they will, but they at least addressed the problems the phone had

        well i dont know..i dont really mind android versions that much because the main functions on my xiaomi phoen all come with miui and that gets regular updates in terms of features and there are no like security holes..so i couldnt care less about the android version as long as the phone performs great…
        the only place i can see the android version is in the about phone screen

    I agree with this comment. The Le 1S’ cam and memory usage was initially horrible but has since leapfrogged my Note 3 Pro thanks to LeEco’s hard work on software improvements. The only issue I have is that they’re still suck using Android 5.0.2.

      Probably they won’t, seeing how they’re not officially cutting the price of z1… Looks like they’re following oneplus route in this too… But, like I said before, with good specs it could still be a deal even at an higher price tag…

    Yes. I guess Xiaomi are offloading all their 2GB+16GB phones, and are getting very few takers. There’s never enough stock of the 3GB model and it’s only in Gold color anyway. You should see the XiaomiIndia and RedmiIndia facebook pages. People are truly frustrated. They haven’t even revealed number of units sold like they used to shout out after each flash sale all these years. Fishy!

        Exactly! Xiaomi tried something similar when they launched Redmi Note Prime with really outdated specs instead of Note 2. I know they couldn’t because of the Ericsson issue (which is really stupid, just pay them and move on, stop being so stupid dammit). They launched they RN3 SD variant early to undercut Letv’s sales – knowing they themselves don’t have the units to sell. But 5 of my friends have now gone for the Le1s since the RN3 wasn’t available. They don’t see that their brand value is going down. That’s really a good time for LeEco to launch in India, who if I remember correctly, sold 200,000 phones in only 3 flash sales.

Everyone I know who has one loves their LeTV. I just couldn’t imagine using a phone with no headphone jack. Also these suffer from the same black border syndrome that the Mi5 does. Looks like Meizu Pro 6 is still my top phone.

    I hope it is similar to the Gionee S7. That was a 5.2in phone with a 2700mAh and a MT6752 and it had very good battery life.

        Yeah you are right Balco, that video could give anyone the envy to get the MI5 in Black color. S7yler is doing IMO the best reviews on the web! It is unfortunate that I did not have the budget for the MI5, it is the ideal phone in terms of size and performance. It would have been great if Xiaomi could have proposed the MI5 basic version by removing that expensive technology they used for the camera. By using an improved camera, I mean better than the one used in MI4 could have lowered the costs. I do not care about SD820, a MI5 basic model with SD652 would have been perfect at a great price.

  Omg, I was so excited that I didn’t even notice that border.
  Dark background makes it look less noticeable.
  Also I didn’t even notice that the fingerprint scanner is on the back (doesn’t work to me)
  The price is extremely attractive though, I’ll be waiting for others to come out.

    The black border is the first thing I notice in phones now lol. Price isn’t that important to me (within reasons, still can’t justify the P9’s price), and I couldn’t live with having to look at that black border and not being able to use my headphones without an adapter.

  LeEco team up with FIIL on this CDLA thing. They’ll deliver USB Type C headphones in 2K16. FIIL seems to deliver hi-end headphones already so it may be interesting. It may be a bit pricy btw…

  Dunno if this would beat a phone with a DAC like Pro 5 or LG V10 + hi quality headphones…

      There will be an adaptor you can use. I would much prefer a headphone jack but the only time it will pose an actual issue in operation is when charging and wanting to listen to audio/video at the same time

        I’m a pretty big fan of Audio Technica too, i’m using ATH-M50 for music production and ATH-ANC70 (noise cancelling) when travelling. ATH-MSR7 is a beast, but it’s a bit pricy for me.
        In fact my everyday in-ear buds are Xiaomi Piston 2… i bought them as a test and finally keep them, as i really like their low/med dynamics. But i’m probably going to buy an ATH-CKxxx model soon, hehe.

      The issue is that when another company offers practically the same spec for significantly less and most probably not a lot of difference in features / performance / build then you have to firstly question meizus strategy but also personally weather it is worth it paying significantly more cash for hardly any real advantages. At the moment i’m not sure it is, because as much as i love meizu they are not wildly better than LeTv when it comes to features/performance/build.

        It all comes down to brand preference and individual tastes. Millions of people in China still buy Galaxys when they can get a Mi5 with near identical specs for $300 less. For me the lack of a headphone jack and that ugly blak border are too much no matter the price.

      I see several of the US LTE bands there listed and they have said they wanted to enter the US, so maybe they will have a Chinese model and an international model with more bands.

        Mediatek SoCs aren’t band, companies just have to get the necessary patents to use them there. Micromax, Gionee and a few others sell Mediatek phones in India.

  I own both the Redmi Note 3 Pro and Le 1S though I must say that I love the screen, speaker and cam (after update) on the LeEco. The only thing that really keeps me with the Note 3 Pro is the insane battery life that allows me to go through the whole day without recharging.

    I guess aging makes you care more about useful stuff rather than eye candies.
    I would love to get a great camera phone with hi-fi audio though.

      Off-Topic: Seems that Redmi Note 3 pro is finally getting some “custom-stuff” love, such as proper TWRP and some AOSP Roms, tried one? I’m tempeted to upgrade from my Jiayu into this phone, fits okay for my usage, but I tend to prefer Stock android, CM. But I’ve said that already.

Le2 Pro seems to be the sweet spot. The only gripe is the 3000mAh battery and I’m not into light coloured phones.
The extra $95 to get a SD820 isn’t reasonable.

  I would argue that the 2 is better value. For 1 extra GB of RAM and a better cam ,300CNY over the 2 is a lot. The Max is just the best deal with SD820 so that’s nice. Ofc the 2 Pro is not poor value for now as there is no competition yet but in the end whatever fits your needs best.

      MTK isn’t doing nothing when it comes to power management. If you have access you can also check their ISSCC presentation.
      Power management is supposed to be a strength for the x20.
      Anyway the point of this “test” seems to be to try to address concerns about eMMC crippling load times. Rudimentary test but they do show it’s not slow.

        Actuality they did try with a hotplug aka “Core Pilot” to overcome a part of it & even it’s a good hot plug (& nothing else) it still actually represent a pore try simply because a simple load balancing across the cluster is better (power & performance wise).
        Now you should really stop to read pore comercial literature & switch to better scientific one. That so called “wite paper” can hardly pass even as a pure propagande brochure.
        The IO governor along with used NAND is a other pair of slippers but still tied with trading & overheads.

  I agree with this comment. The Le 1S’ cam and memory usage was initially horrible but has since leapfrogged my Note 3 Pro thanks to LeEco’s hard work on software improvements. The only issue I have is that they’re still suck using Android 5.0.2.

  Yes. I guess Xiaomi are offloading all their 2GB+16GB phones, and are getting very few takers. There’s never enough stock of the 3GB model and it’s only in Gold color anyway. You should see the XiaomiIndia and RedmiIndia facebook pages. People are truly frustrated.   Exactly! Xiaomi tried something similar when they launched Redmi Note Prime with really outdated specs instead of Note 2. I know they couldn’t because of the Ericsson issue (which is really stupid, just pay them and move on, stop being so stupid dammit). They launched they RN3 SD variant early to undercut Letv’s sales – knowing they themselves don’t have the units to sell. But 5 of my friends have now gone for the Le1s since the RN3 wasn’t available. They don’t see that their brand value is going down. That’s really a good time for LeEco to launch in India, who if I remember correctly, sold 200,000 phones in only 3 flash sales.

Everyone I know who has one loves their LeTV. I just couldn’t imagine using a phone with no headphone jack. Also these suffer from the same black border syndrome that the Mi5 does. Looks like Meizu Pro 6 is still my top phone.

  Didn’t effect my opinion at all. I could write one of those articles praising the phone. There are several errors in his little rant as well. He says it is a less powerful Pro 5. It is not the X25 in the Pro 6 is more powerful than the Exnyos in the Pro 5. He says it is a more expensive Pro 5, it is not. The Pro 6 launch prices (2499/2799) is actually less than the Pro 5’s (2799/3099) was. Sounded more like he started with the premise that it was going to be bad and then did everything possible to arrive at that conclusion.

  The issue is that when another company offers practically the same spec for significantly less and most probably not a lot of difference in features / performance / build then you have to firstly question meizus strategy but also personally weather it is worth it paying significantly more cash for hardly any real advantages. It is unfortunate that I did not have the budget for the MI5, it is the ideal phone in terms of size and performance. It would have been great if Xiaomi could have proposed the MI5 basic version by removing that expensive technology they used for the camera. By using an improved camera, I mean better than the one used in MI4 could have lowered the costs. I do not care about SD820, a MI5 basic model with SD652 would have been perfect at a great price.

In the box you do get a 2.5mm Audio Jack->USB C cable but when plugged in you can’t charge. What that means is you can’t listen using conventional headphones whilst having a USB cable in charging. Most likely down the track someone will release a hybrid cable that have both the audio jack and the follow-through female USB C.

  I own both the Redmi Note 3 Pro and Le 1S though I must say that I love the screen, speaker and cam (after update) on the LeEco. The only thing that really keeps me with the Note 3 Pro is the insane battery life that allows me to go through the whole day without recharging.

Le2 Pro seems to be the sweet spot. The only gripe is the 3000mAh battery and I’m not into light coloured phones.
Audio through USB C maybe expensive to get the cabling if not included.
No NFC it seems.
The extra $95 to get a SD820 isn’t reasonable.

  I would argue that the 2 is better value. For 1 extra GB of RAM and a better cam ,300CNY over the 2 is a lot. The Max is just the best deal with SD820 so that’s nice. Ofc the 2 Pro is not poor value for now as there is no competition yet but in the end whatever fits your needs best.

  Not really. No surprise hire. If they do a HTP test Exunos would won a big time.
  Edit: after all X25 have a nominal sped that is 300 MHz higher (12%), A72 is around 15% faster (at least) & ART in M should be 20% faster in execution of code & a little bit faster in loading of same. So all in all 11.5% faster load times aren’t a big step forward. You certainly won’t feel that in real usage. What you culd feel anyhow is switching between two huge apps or games or combined & then lead would be on Exunos side since it has quad A57 cluster so no need for migration between clusters no termination of proces & with proper load balancing it can even save power (but this is probably to much to wish for).

From those 3 the base Le 2 is definitely a best choice as price is nice. As much as I don’t like battery capacity I do like it’s removable if that is true. Don’t like LeTV amount of bloat but do like their build quality.
