iNew seem to be in a mood to resurrect themselves. The company shot to fame with the iNew V3 some years back, but the popularity kind of died down a bit since.
A few weeks back we reported about the new iNew U5W which the company planned to launch. Fast forward to today, and the phone is already on sale.
We just got hold of some hands-on photos of the phone. The device isn’t a flagship by any means, but instead is a budget contender… something a lot of Chinese phones seem to be vested in.
Gizchina News of the week
The U5W features the same budget SoC that we’ve seen on a couple other sub-$80 phones — the MediaTek MT6580. Other specifications of the phone include a 5-inch display (FWVGA; 854 x 480p), 1GB RAM, 8GB ROM, 5 mega-pixel rear camera, 2 mega-pixel front facing camera and a 3000mAh battery.
Now that you know what’s inside, take a look at how the device looks on the outside.
Reading the title: “oh, iNew is back?!”
Reading the specs: “nope, that’s iOld… Welcome to budget 2012!”
inew make a killer product every 2 to 3 years.
So its due to make one at the end of this year
Inew L3 was a letdown after V3/V3 Plus. Nice design and build, but white spots on screen, over processed images and no OIS as advertised (Imx214 also unlikely). Upgraded L5 has been promised for months, but wouldn’t hold my breath.
Uninspiring to say the least, 2013(MT 6582) phones in a 2016 package.
For 10$ more you can get a 6735 with HD screen and 2GB of RAM.
Couldn’t agree more. I don’t get the fascination with the 6580, it wasn’t even a great chip in 2013 (6582) even then it was riddled with problems.
The 6582 was the first budget quad core SoC that was actually usable, with only GPS related problems, but offerd quite the “bang for a buck” back then.
However now this chip’s graphics are ancient and no 4G support with the same GPS problems, is nothing to even consider giving your money to, when you can get a decent 6735(and soon 6750)for 10-20$ more.
People was bashing MT6735 last year, now they’ve got the MT6580 =D
haha personally the MT6735 was one of my favorites SoCs of last year, it delivered and never let me down during my usage, I would say for everyone to just ignore this MT6580.
iNew goes from making some of the most beautiful phones in the industry to this boring slab.
Whatever happened to iOcean? I still have my X8 in a draw somewhere, loved the design of that phone. There one month vacation (post on FB) is approaching one year.
yep, quite a long way from the iNew L3 to this… “thing”.
iOcean is dead and buried unfortunately. Inew was quite under the hood, iOcean last launch was the Rock last year, Just as THL a time ago, personally I think someone bought up THL rights and is forwarding the brand lol
THL released a new phone this year, the T7. I ordered one a few weeks ago to see how it is.
