What do you think of these Xiaomi Max specs?

Xiaomi is hoping a big handset is what’s needed to boost dwindling sales in China, so take a gander and let us know what you think of the Max’s hardware.

Don’t worry you haven’t missed the launch of the Xiaomi Max, but you might have missed a recent set of benchmarks which tell us what the new Xiaomi device will be packing once it launches.

The GFXbench benchmarks give us some interesting details including a 6.4-inch 1920 x 1080 display, 1.8Ghz Hexacore chipset, 2GB RAM and around 16GB internal memory for the Xiaomi Max.

From these details we can guess that the chipset in the phone will be a Snapdragon 650, and the fact the phone only has 2GB RAM and a FHD display (we were thinking 2K for such a whopper) we can assume the the Max is going to be an affordable device,=.

The benchmarks also tell us that the phone will have a 5 mega-pixel front camera, 16 mega-pixel rear and run Android 6.1.1. However there may well be another version of the phone boasting 3GB RAM in the works too according to sources.

So the Xiaomi Max is going to be some sort of supersize Redmi phone, but is this really what customers want? Personally we’re not so sure that Xiaomi have the ingredients for a good seller here, and the Xiaomi Max might follow other less successful Xiaomi phones like the Xiaomi Mi2A and the Mi4C! What do you guys think?

2GB of RAM is just not enough for MIUI based devices, I’ve seen Redmi Note 3 (SD650) 32GB version struggle for memory with its 3GB RAM.

  Really depends on what you do as a user. For my MiPad 2 it is enough but I also only watch movies and browse the web on it.

Dear Mr. Andi my friend, I hope your everything good. i would like to remind you who gives you all the free wonderful Millet phones to test and use. I was already very sad to see that you review this LE Bad Phone and gave it 9/10 (While our wonderful perfect beloved Millet Note only got 8.8) but that you say our next phone wll be unsuccessful just by comparing it to our special edition phones is just not fair. I believe you know that all our employees at the beloved Millet want to enjoy their rice at the end of the month, so please stop harassing the Beloved.

        Jim Gaffigan is pretty funny but his Multicore Geek Bench score is lower. Also his standup act only uses 8 cores, Kevin Hart uses 10, and more cores obviously is better.

I think it won’t be a best seller: as you said, it’s some kind of bigger redmi note 3 pro, but nothing special. While the ones wanting a smaller screen are like “5 inches is the limit, 0.1″ more and I’ll die”, the ones wanting a bigger screen are more likely to say “5.5” will do as long as it’s good”, so there’s no real reason for this device… They should fix note 3 pro’s camera instead to boost sales, and definitely pull out something else instead…

  I think it will be a big seller but only in the Chinese market where they love big things and only if the pricing is closer to a Redmi phone.

The screen size grabbed my attention but Xiaomi have got the rest of the specs completely wrong. This will be crap and that’s being polite!

        Gionee will be releasing their 6 inch E9 at somepoint and I am sure LeEco will have a follow up to the Le Max.

    I think the drives comes from something like this feeling … “You paid 700$ for a 5″ phone?… I got a 6.4” for 200$. And it even has an IR blaster and I don’t watch movies on television any more ?”…. Metaphorically speaking. U get it right??? ??

With these specs… I’ll pass. Starting to look like the LeTV Max 6.33″ will be the better buy.

I would expect from an upper mid-range giant-ish Xiaomi, no more than ~160mm height and ~80mm width, either SD625 or Helio X20, 4GB RAM obviously LPDDR3 at best case, assuming it would be non-expandable at least 64GB eMMC 5.1 internal storage, ~5000-6000mAh battery.
So it’s gonna be too large for my taste. 16GB storage even if its expandable which I doubt that and 2GB RAM with heavy MIUI too low for rumored 1299 yuan price tag IMO.
I guess it might have a better camera pair and display quality comparison to Redmi line. If that’s the case, I would chose sufficient amount of RAM and storage over better cameras and display at inexpensive devices.
Coming out of the box Lollipop is bad idea at Marshmallow era.
Rumors also suggests 4500mAh battery, which is kinda low for such a large volume, especially considering relatively tiny Redmi 3 has 4100mAh.

  160 x 80 for a 6.4 inch phone? There aren’t even 6 inch phones with those dimensions:
  Galaxy A9 – 161 x 80.9
  Marathon M5 Plus – 160.9 x 81.2
  Lumia 1520 – 162.8 X 85.4
  Elite X3 – 161.8 x 83.5
  Axon Max – 160 x 80
  The LeEco Le Max is 6.33 inches and it is 167.1 x 83.5.

    These dimensions are roughly my upper limit for a phone. Even with smallest possible bezels with a 6.4″ screen that handset gonna be too large for my taste.
