Xiaomi has always been fairly aggressive in bringing about changes to its MIUI software. This is partly the reason why a lot of Xiaomi phones take time to get to the newest version of Android; the company likes to ‘bake’ the features into its ROM.
MIUI 7 was all about the 2015 design philosophy – flat, blurred and colourful. MIUI 8 is set to bring a change to that, hopefully a fresh and new one.
From what Xiaomi have to share about MIUI 8, it seems as though there’ll be a ‘symmetric’ aspect to the up and coming iteration of the ROM. What exactly? We know only as much as you do!
For starters, Xiaomi’s MIUI 8 teasers come with the following: A WORD about colors, about mirrors and more. I’m not quite sure what that means, while I hope it isn’t just a bad Chinese to English translation from their presentation material.
Anyway, Xiaomi reveal that MIUI 8 will feature stock apps with a fresh design. While this can be expected of any new iteration, it is nice to get a glimpse before the actual ROM starts seeding.
Gizchina News of the week
Take a look at the phone app below:
Most importantly, it seems as though the very popular (and honestly, effective) notification area is set to get a major revamp. The toggles will now appear on the same page as the notification (as opposed to being on a different page, one swipe away) which might remind some of Samsung’s TouchWiz.
Take a look here:
All in all, MIUI 8 feels a bit like Xiaomi’s preparation for the Western markets. Previous versions of MIUI seemed suited more for Chinese and other markets. We’ll know more when MIUI 8 is officially announced alongside the Xiaomi Mi Max on the 10th of May.
Thoughts?
Hate flat design, V5 was better. But that’s because material design in general, Google’s fault.
you know miui give you tons of themes that change how the whole system look, right?
you can change it to v5 style if you want.
this is one of the best things i love in miui, the option to really change how the system looks.
More bloat and ram hogging no doubt
This one will probably use up 3 GB on first boot.
How dare you to say that, the performance issues and ram problems where the lolipops fault, please not that the MIUI offers the best OS for moible device.
i dont have any ram issues in my mi4 with 3gb ram and tons of programs in the background, elts say 8+ 1 game okay it can really go down to 500mb like that but everything stays in the background.
These are they typical MIUI trolls. They come out anytime there is a story about MIUI.

It is the old topic, but seriously, i’m not that interested in “new design” but in performance and features which you only get in Android M etc. so damn, give us a new android version and not always these “kind of” updates.
You must be new to MIUI, Xiaomi makes improvements to performance all the time and some of the features just now coming to stock Android have been in MIUI (and several other UIs) for awhile.
I am speaking of rather low level improvements. For example, with Android N you will get multi- window support. In Lollipop, there was the huge step that you can run applications on your sd-card. I am not that sure, but I think in Android M it was, that unlocking your phone via Fingerprint was deeply integrated, also. Furthermore, it is no secret, that the Mipad has a terrible ram management. So in my opinion, these miui features are nice, but way not that essential than other updates, which only can be delivered by real updates in the os.
lol sure yeah they make improvements to performance
lmaooooo
I can tell you without a doubt or speculation that eating several more GBs of RAM will be one of the new things.
Having Cyanogenmod on my Xiaomi device is a godsend.
MY DEAR FRIENDS; HOW DARE YOU?? MIUI 8 WILL BE RADICALLY DIFFERENT. BLAMING THE GOOGLE LOLLIPOP ISSUES ON THE BELOVED XIAOMI.

Seriously are we trying to get hyped up over MIUI?
and to think Apple users get labeled sheep…
Yes we are getting hyped up over one of the best UI’s on Android.
Apple users are sheep.
Very well said dear.
It’s extra funny because you’re a “marketing guy” (ok, really just PR) but you know this all marketing hype and you’ve fallen for it, right?
No I know that MIUI is one of the best UI’s every created. I also know you are troll for anything Xiaomi related.
Me = not even averaging 1 post per day on disqus.
You = averaging 19 posts posts per day on disqus.
Don’t be surprised if your family does an intervention when you hit 20.
I’ll have to try harder to get to 25 a day.

And that doesn’t make you any less of a troll 😉

I just hope it fixes the sim toolkit issue on my redmi note 2. A lot of people have been complaining about it but Xiaomi doesnt seem to care since the bug was left unattended in previous updates. I do most transactions with the toolkit so the bug prevents me from totally loving miui
Fixed ram management at last! Also not so heavy OS.
I’m sure the 4-6 GB ram will come in handy for the atrocity that is MIUI.
And as with typical software evolution, hopefully they’ll outdo the SD820 + 6GB ram combination in no time, requiring the SD 823 / 830 soon with 8GB ram, to function smoothly.
