The UMI Super new “sub brand” lineup is more or less a public secret now and we are quite curious if it really turns out to be a full lineup of coming devices or it just stops with the first one released. Nonetheless looking interesting and let’s see if it can live up to the expectations.
You already surely have some pretty good idea about the first UMI Super phone from our previous articles so not many surprises left with the specs. Almost everything has been revealed like the Super AMOLED display with the 0.001 mm thin touch layer allegedly improving the picture quality and sunlight legibility, the generous 6 GB RAM, usage of the USB Type-C connector or the 4000 mAh battery capacity with fast charge support.
UMI Super will be also equipped with circular rear fingerprint scanner with 3D technology and should be more secure thanks to the 4 levels of security with the papillary lines scanning. First it should scan the ridge flow, then ridge formation, ridge path deviation and 3D ridge depth in the end.
Gizchina News of the week
Today they have revealed the usage of the 13 MPix Panasonic sensor in the main camera, but sadly there is no information about the exact sensor type. So aside the usual promo talk about the better picture and better everything we learned only something new with the statement, that the camera lens is not going to be protruding from the body, which is good.
Last piece of UMI news is the event happening over at the official UMI website, where you can get a 70$ discount coupon applicable for the UMI Super presale.
Active cooling is usually a fan but I really meant any open air system
sooo … what does Passive Cooling mean ?
Passive is just a heatsink, or something that acts as it (coppershim, etc.).
lol , so additional cores is a BOTTLENECK ?!
Yes. Think of it like a pizza oven… If 500f gets a pizza cooked in 10 minutes and 600f gets it done in 7…what about a 1200f oven? Answer : a1200f oven over heats and doesn’t get things done any faster at all
RIIIGHT !
so , which SoC is the 600f 😀 ? (i hate Fahrenheit , talk in Celsius plz)
Yupe my reason is because Qualcomm Snapdragon software support for Android is much better than mediatek.
When you buy a mediatek, Kirin, Exynos, etc SOC smartphone, DON’T EXPECT an upgrade. Normally you just stuck with that android version (especially cheapskate mediatek)
But with Qualcomm Snapdragon, you still got hope for upgrade at least 1-2 newer android version. Even If official no more support there is still chance for third party firmware like cyanogenmod. So now it depend on how last your snapdragon smartphone still working (hardware limitation).
For me that don’t have budget $$$ to upgrade smartphone every year, this kind of software support is really value for money as i can use it longer compare to mediatek, etc.
Too bad the scaredy cat mediatek never learn this as they seldom release their source code to community. maybe Mediatek afraid someone will learn their SOC secret inside their android or something, i really not sure why
BTW come to think of it, maybe mediatek did this on purpose. Because no hope of mediatek Android upgrade then everytime they release new SOC smartphone, their customer got no choice but to replace their smartphone. more business for mediatek LOL
And yeah somehow mediatek SOC smartphone normally sell at much cheaper than Snapdragon (with same $$$ normally can get a better Mediatek SOC than Snapdragon).
Not really. SoC cost doesn’t make large difference in final product cost & after all there are & companies that doesn’t change so much extra for their products with QC SoC’s like Xiaomi. By the way QC did what ever they culd (& this time legally) to offer their products competitive on Chinese market.
If UMi is using their components they wouldn’t be allowed to sue so they can legally use Panasonic, Mediatek and Texas Instruments, maybe a few others too depending on the components. For the others there is little incentive in suing one of these smaller Chinese companies.
Why can’t someone use the name of its commercial partners? They’re supposed to give just the hint?! Like a teaser image with “we can’t say who priduced this sensor, but its name starts with “pana” and ends with “the name of a blue hedgehog”…”
