Chinese leviathan LeEco once again hit the homerun with the new LeEco 2 phones and sales of all the three versions are through the roof. Most popular among them is the standard LeEco 2 model with Mediatek Helio X20 processor and very aggresive price tag of 1099 yuan ($168).
And now it seems like the customers will be given even more of a choice, because a new version of the LeEco 2 base model has been spotted on their web store and almost instantly also appeared in Antutu benchmark results.
Gizchina News of the week
The new model Le X526 will be carrying the increasingly popular octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor, while the rest of the specs remain untouched. The insanely competitive 1099 yuan price is left untouched also so the LeEco 2 remains as one of the best price/performance options altogether. Looking forward to it.
there gonna get a whole lot cheaper when the USD gets replaced with a devalued treasury note!
Considering Qualcomm chips usually cost more than Mediatek it makes perfect sense. The 652 and X20 must be priced similar.
He usually does when it comes to prices. He has these unrealistic pricing models in his head that only makes sense to him.
Considering how Snapdragons are usually larger (have more gates) it’s natural that they cost more. If you try to compare it to cost/gate difference will be minimal. On the other hand that what you paid extra for certainly pays off thru long lasting support & CAF.
Where do the extra transistors go?
ADSP cellular radio MTK uses ASICS,
ADSP multimedia block again MTK uses ASICS & naturally a Larger GPU that actually takes biggest part of die size.
DSP’s (programmable) are at least one gen (usually two) ahead of fixed function (not programmable) ASICS from the obvious reasons (programmability). Naturally ASICS are smaller & cost less.
Adrenos are more power/performance efficient because they are designed as single cluster solutions (this actually do cost much more). In this particular case of S652 add in & two A72 cores more against 4 A53 cores, A72’s are roughly 3x the size of A53.
Hope that’s enough reasons for you why are the QC SoC’s pricier.
and it seems to have better performance because in every review i read something about laggs with the x20/25 in 3d gaming (more demanding titles)
for me its not a bit hard because i still dont know if i should go for the pro or the honor v8… or something else 🙁
and if i go for the pro will there also be a 652 version? and which version will have more customers so there are more people to talk about those devices..or have something like custom roms
Adreno 510 on qualcomm snapdragon 650/652 is better than the mali t880 mp4. Cpu performance is better on helio x20/25 and kirin 950/955. I guess if you care about gaming then go for the leeco 2 snapdragon version.
but to be fair the laggs on the x20 are really weird because even helio x10 devices didnt lagg like that in those 3 d games..its kinda weird 🙁
Considering that the mali gpu on helio x20 is lower clocked then kirins mali gpu is not surprising. But still it shouldn’t lag like that to be honest . I am guessing it’s a new gpu and it’s not optimized well hence the lag. Mali-t880 mp4 has sufficient horsepower to run modern 1080p games fine.
PowerVR is better gpu than mali.
They (Imagination tech) have better driver’s.
You won’t even be able to register performance difference between them on CPU front running a simple demanding app like Chrome, what you however will be able to see is when you start another heavy app at the same time or task switch between heavy apps or games. Naturally advantage is on the S652 side as it have a Quad A72 big cluster.
Looks like MTK didn’t sort out the MALI driver’s integration right now in their up to date software builds & the other thing is that most of the games arent still optimized for MALI architecture. A shame actually & a direct product of analyst predictions from couple years ago (T400 series) when no one actually sow ARM MALI lineup as competitive nor something that will have future.
so you think there will be any improvements on the graphic driver or something via ota later? because for now while being actually not that bad its kinda a shame that it now has worse graphical performance just compared to the x10
It probably will from MTK but you will see it only in phone from responsible manufacturer that actually have a thing called costumer care & you know that there is a very small number of those.
For instance take a look at Lenovo K3 Lemon & compare it to every other phone based on the same SoC (MT6752) even the Lemon actually had his downfalls (not so good display & without adequate display protection) it also whose a bit pricey but at the end they did deliver a user experience & care. & don’t get me wrong Lenovo also don’t have all that good costumer care for bunch of their other phone models.
because i’m still not sure if i should go to leeco le 2 pro or try to save up way more and get the cheapest honor v8
i would love to simply stay with xiaomi and miui but they dont have devices that i really want :p
I would actually recommend you to go with this basic Le 2 variant as I think it have just enough of everything you will be needing & still cost a lot less. Naturally I would recommend you to wait for this variant with S652 as it’s still not available. It won’t be a top in any way but it will be more than enough to provide you with joyful experience. It has a nice bring display (540 lux), good nice sounding loud speaker LeTV actually showed us that they do work on software optimizations with their first wave of devices & after all there will also be a lot of costume roms through time for this one (even I only prefer costume kernels). I don’t see a real reason for spending more money on anything else, certainly they culd have done even better for a little more money but it is good as it is.
well but i would still prefer going for the le 2 pro with 4gb of ram and the imx 230 ..just because i dont want a downgrade in camera from my mi4 ^^
Yes & I would like Amoled display & dedicated audio DAC for 30~40$ more, 70 with additional nand & gig more of ram rather than better camera but as I stated it’s not perfect but just good as it is.
If you really like to take photos save money & buy your self a nice maxi idiot (DSLR with fixed non removable objective) that will serve you for many years if you go nice & easy on him & will certainly be better than any phone camera ever.
but i dont want to carry a dslr everwyhwerelike most people i jsut want to take decent photos with my phone and i was happy with the mx4 and the mi 4 in the past in those regards.
Well Andey whose pretty much satisfied with cam performance on Le 1. Actually stories how smartphone cam can even get close to DSLR are actually ones for small children & that part won’t change. Looks like we can’t have it all with out at least some compromising.
