Micromax owned Indian smartphone company Yu today announced the Yu Yunicorn, their newest flagship and yet another contender in the sub 15,000 INR / $225 range.
The phone features a MediaTek Helio P10 processor, 4GB of RAM, 32GB on-board storage, a 4000mAh battery, 13 mega-pixel PDAF enabled f/2.2 camera, and a 5 mega-pixel front camera. On top, the Yunicorn feature a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080p display.
From the outset, the Yu Yunicorn looks suspiciously similar to the Meizu m3 note (including the home button-mounted fingerprint scanner), which in turn reminds a few of us of the Redmi Note 3, Meizu MX5 and more.
Gizchina News of the week
The Yunicorn will cost a mere 12,999 INR ($193) for the first month, after which the price will jump to 14,999 INR or $225. Yu no longer work with Cyanogen, so the Yunicorn won’t really come with Cyanogen OS. Instead, it’ll feature a stock-ish UI that the company calls ‘Android on Steroids’.
Despite the similarities with the m3 note, the Yu Yunicorn does look like a good device for the money… at least on paper. We’ve had tough luck sourcing Yu phones for review, so you’ll probably have to make do with the m3 note review this time around!
I will get a redmi Note 3 instead anyday.
Helio P10 is no match for SD650. Just giving extra ram won’t do any good considering the speed of ram is slow.
Qiku N4 is another amazing device but not available globally yet.
Did they just copy meizu m3 note? haha
Probably rebadged, not copied. The company has done this before. Yu’s first phone was a Coolpad F2 with a new coat of paint and CM11. This is probably the M3, as people have suggested.
sir after that first device they have started to design their phones and i am a user of yutopia and it’s designed by them so this would not be a rebrand and moreover m3 note is available directly in India so they can’t rebrand the already available design even though they want to…
that’s for china not for India sir….if they want to they can launch this at the same price but for now not in India
well some of us dont live in india and buy phones online so it doesnt matter
but it will matter to us sir…and this is specially for Indian market not for international users like you..
have to see if they maintain the same price as it was in china when they launch in India…
what about the meizu m3 note thats also a better deal imo i always hear bad thing from yu
Not as bad as ppl think and see at YU…am a user and am happy with my yutopia for the past 6 months….
In India no one will buy yunicorn at 13K Rs, when mezui m3 note is available at 10K. M3 note has bigger battery, lighter weight. only 3GB ram inplace of 4GB.
There are some nationalists that only buy Make in India.
meizu has only 2 gb ram this has 4 gb and sir i have no idea why ppl forget the software that YU has to offer on this one…they are giving you a wallet application which meizu doesn’t offer….free gaana subscription for 6 months so that u can download songs for free officially…..though 14k will be high 13k is justified…how many phones offer 4gb ram at 13k i have no idea….and moreover it offers a lot of software features that others can’t….as in softwares and subscriptions won’t come for free…
