Nubia launches Xiaomi Max killer with the Z11 Max

Earlier today ZTE spin-off brand Nubia, released their latest Z range phone the Nubia Z11 Max.

The newest Z phone is the Nubia Z11 Max and the newly launched phone clearly has the Xiaomi Max in its sights.

Sporting a big 6.0-inch Super AMOLED display with uber narrow 1.32mm bezels and the obligatory 2.5D curved display. The large panel is designed to give class leading media viewing, but Nubia have also been wise enough to incorporate a split screen function (Split Screen 2.0). There is also an interesting screen recording feature that allows you to add voiceovers for recording game walk throughs, tutorials etc.

Like the Z11 Mini, Nubia have worked on the camera hardware and given the Z11 Max a 16 mega-pixel rear camera with respectable F2.0 aperture. This should offer similar (excellent) performance as the Z11 Mini.

Processing comes form an octacore Snapdragon 652 chipset with 4GB RAM, there is 64GB of internal memory plus space for an SD card and dual SIM’s.

Nubia have launched the Silver and Gold versions of the Z11 Max today, but on the 16th June a limited edition Cristiano Ronaldo model will launch on the 16th June in limited numbers.

Hopefully we will get a chance to review this phone also, so keep posted for more Z11 Max news.

      The line between “I’d like that” and “I’ll surely pay much more money for a player’s sign” is not so thin. Not to mention, it’s not like cr7 is going to actually autograph the phone, so you can take a motorola and make the same exact thing with moto maker, just saying.

  prepare to fork out more money for the CR7 version as it’ll have his custom wallpapers and other content relevant to CR7 in the phone.

It looks really nice and should be a decent performer.
It seems they have diluted/differentiated the range more this time.
Last year, the Max had the same processor as the flagship and NFC, which are both missing this time round (I am making the reasonable assumption that the Z11 will have an SD820 SoC).
That said, unless you’re an avid gamer, I doubt there is much between the 652 and 820 in real world, day-to-day usage.
Also, it’s a shame that they have moved to a hybrid dualSIM/microSD slot. That means I will probably have to stick with my current handset for now (it seems that phones where you can have your cake and eat it in that respect are drying up pretty quickly).
I really like the look of the MI Max, I like the look of the Z11 Max more.
The seperate WCD9335 codec chip (as per Galaxy S7) and amplifier is a big plus for me and the camera will be pretty great too – I’m fairly sure it’s probably as good/better that the MI5 in that department (same sensor, Nubia always seem to do a far better job with the software and implementation than others using the same sensor), so I would be surprised if the MI Max camera performed as well.
I’m very much looking forward to seeing a full review. I hope they send you one Andi – maybe this could be your new daily driver?

GOD DAMNED FUCKING SD65x phablets! Why is NO SINGLE OEM releasing a 6 incher with top-noch specs like SD820???? I’m so tired of waiting for a flagship 6 inch phone. We only get SD610 LeEco Max, Huawei Mate 8 with a boring HiSilicon Kirin 950 and not even 4K recording, the Xiaomi Mi Max with a SD65x and all of them even don’t sport 2K screens. Even my 1.5 year old Mi Note Pro has a 2K screen! I’m so pissed, sorry.

    Yes, the plus side:
    – Blazing fast
    – Good camera
    – Slick, slim design
    – Cheap
    But what I’m looking for now, that the Mi Note Pro doesn’t provide:
    – Fingerprint
    – NFC
    – Bigger screen (6 inch)
    – Bigger battery (the Note Pro 3052mAh battery is empty faster than a free bottle of vodka in Russia)

      well,you are right, on next gen mi note i want fingerprint, micro sd, and better battery 🙂 ofc that includes newer gen processor and camera…
      i dont use nfc, and for me 5,7″ is upper limit…
      despite all disadvantages i really like this phone,it’s very clean and simple.

    he just wants in to be a flagship. no reason to want it for anything different than the “non-Max” buyers want SD820s…
    I share his frustration that there aren’t any good choices for a 6+” phone with 2K screen and top speed processor. It was very disappointing that LeEco flaked and reneged on making their SD820 based Max Pro.

      I agree 6+ phones should have a 2k screen that is where you really start to notice the difference but you don’t need a SD820 for a 2k screen, the 650 supports it. And the 650 can do just about everything the 820 can.

        Maybe it can compete for you. But not for me:
        – No Cat 12 LTE (my data plan is unlimited and the network allows LTE+)
        – No USB-3, did you ever transfer a 10gb 4K video over USB2? Good luck
        And why I’m generally pissed is, that there is currently no 6 inch smartphone with:
        – at least 2K screen
        – at least 4000mAh
        – fingerprint
        – dual sim
        – 4k video recording capability

    Various things where the SD820 has significant advantages. At least I’m not buying a smartphone with even worse specs than my current:
    – 14nm process = less heat, less energy consumption (vs 28nm, even my “old” SD810 is 20nm and thus better!)
    – USB3 = much faster file transfers to my PC (vs USB2)
    – LTE Cat. 12 = faster 4G speed (vs. cat. 7)
    – 136’000 Antutu Points = Faster app start/JIT compilation (vs. 79’600, which is even less than my “old” SD820 with 80’000)

      Antutu tells you how big of a random number a device gets, it tells next to nothing about actual real world performance. And I lost you at SD810 having less heat than something.

        It’s not a random number, it’s repeatable and empiric. Same device generates same numbers. It’s not a total real world performance but it’s a hint.
        SD810 produces a lot of heat. I never said the opposite. Read my parenthesis again. I was just comparing the process size of the SD650 with the SD810, not the thermal discharge.
        The SD820 has less thermal discharge per V than the 652, it’s more energy efficient.

        It is a random number in the grand scheme things. And it’s actually it’s not always repeatable as the on several phones the numbers will change no matter how many times you run it. The problem with Antutu is you can have two phones with drastically different scores that perform the same in real life, and on the flip side you can have phones with lower scores that outperform phones with higher scores. It tells very little about real world usage. Also with each new iteration Antutu the scores get bigger making older results worthless.
        Here is your exact quote in () “vs 28nm, even my “old” SD810 is 20nm and thus better!”. You imply with this sentence that because the SD810 is built on 20nm it is better and more efficient than the 652. It is not, the SD810 is one of the most inefficient chips ever made and has had severe issues with thermal discharge. Process size isn’t everything the 810 proves that.
